Previously, on Cave Redux (Part 6)...

It was a precise and well-timed attack, one which would have dropped any living humanoid. The steel blade easily cut through the Cardassian's chest armor then plunged deep inside its chest cavity and into the creature's heart, slicing the organ in half. A few spurts of blood sprayed out of the wound around the side of the knife onto Wyatt's visor, but the creature he had just impaled seemed barely fazed.

Lowing its glowing red eyes down to its chest to observe the wound, the Cardassian then looked back up at Luke and suddenly grabbed him by the helmet with hands on either side of it to keep the security chief's head in place. Red wisps of non-corporeal energy slowly extended from the creature's eyes and began to bury themselves into Wyatt's helmet, cutting open the protective and cracking the glass of his visor in an attempt to penetrate into the Human's skull.

And Now, the Continuation...

[ON]

Luke felt the suction of air as his purified oxygen escaped through the two holes created by the red tentacles protruding his helmet as if it was water. Swinging his rifle round towards the Cardassians hand he quickly and furiously undone his Helmet the blood on his hands and helmet screen did nothing to help.

The security chief slipped out of his helmet just in time before the wisps of red energy delved deep into the apparatus and began to melt the material and shatter the visor.

As Luke's helmet popped of he dropped to the floor and fell back into the tunnels wall. Shooting of two more shots he rolled out of the way of any further attack's, Blood from his EVA suits gloves had found its way onto his face the stick resin clinging to his face making his lips taste salty and metallic.

Although he was properly-certified and diligently current with his phaser training, Andreus Kohl was woefully unskilled with a phaser -- especially compared to much of the team. For this reason, he had kept towards the middle of the away team, before it became evident the phasers were having little effect. He was toying with his laser scalpel, debating if there were some way to weaponize it, when he saw movement out of the corner of his eye. Something struck him, and he tumbled, and he struck the floor hard on his back.

Somehow managing to keep his tricorder in his gloved hand and open, Elijah began to fire the phaser. He missed several times, but had also gotten in a few shots at the zombie like being as well. Unfortunately it didn't do a damn thing. A red tentacle of energy whipped by him, just inches from his right shoulder, it was too close of a call in his mind. All he could do was keep firing, all the while his tricorder beeped incessantly, taking in all the information it could.

Allyndra saw a sudden spike in the energy readings and turned as the field intensified behind her. Figures phased in and then began to move and with that same odd energy attacked. Phasers went off and people screamed and yet her mind focused even more on the readings. Her mind clicked even if bio electric generated and odd they were still electric fields. Electric fields could be disrupted. A tentacle lased out taking off three fingers of her left hand. She screamed but held onto the tricorder. Cradling the device in her injured hand she turned the tricorder and instead of reading a field sent a pulse outward. The tentacle coming in again recoiled as though stung.

Holliday opened fire with his own rifle, even on maximum setting however doing damage to these creatures seemed next to impossible. Every hole that his weapons fire blew in their bodies was simply regenerated by the red bio-electric field that they had encountered previously within mere seconds. Continuing to fire he looked around at his officers and crewmembers as they bravely continued to fight off their new enemy.

"Fall back!" John bellowed down the comm channel as he turned his rifle on the roof of the tunnel, hoping that by collapsing a section it might buy them a few seconds of security on one side.

Dea had brought her own phaser rifle up to fire back instantly when the battle first started. However that wasn't good enough. Already falling back when Holliday's order came in. Forced to stop short when one of the zombie's tentacle's managed to snag her along the side then again in the upper thigh. Shoving aside the pain Dea continues her retreat. Getting out of this alive happened to be her top priority.

On clunky feet, Kohl just stomped against the floor harder to keep himself moving in the same direction as the away team, when the pain screaming in his back told him to lie down for a light nap or a light death. He kept close to Dea again, trusting her battle instincts more than his own.

Suddenly, Asahi was extremely glad he had decided to pick up a phaser. While the others were clearly more experienced than he was at wielding the thing, he found that, in desperation, he could easily point and shoot at a target that was threatening to make its red, icky way towards them. Being toward the middle of the group also meant he was nearly unscathed by the attacks the odd monsters, up until he realized everyone was moving the opposite direction. A low flying tentacle grabbed a hold of his phaser hand, and, subsequently, his weapon. It was a quick thought that had Asahi de-attaching the glove from the rest of the suit before he found himself scrambling out of there, cursing loudly in Denobulan.

Gabriel was sweating inside the suit with how much he was moving in the fight, unconsciously stripping himself of it piece by piece, as cut up and falling apart as it was. He had always been quick in a fight with his slender rather than muscular physique, and he was dancing around the zombie thing that was focussed on him, nimbly shuffling out of reach of the lashing tentacles of energy, his training as a fencer proving more than a little useful. As he moved, he kept lashing out with his combat knife, cutting as much and as frequently as he could, but despite slashing several cuts against the assailant he had no better luck than Luke with actually stopping it. "Sod this," he breathed with growing frustration, jumping lightly back out of the way of a tentacle, turning fast around the left side of it before lunging forward to thrust the knife deep into the head of the zombie with a savage twisting motion as hard as he could manage, crying out with the effort.

For a moment the creature seemed to stop as it considered it's situation. The pause was only momentary however as a tendril of dark energy emerged from it's skull, and wrapping around the blade, simply tugged it free like a thorn from it's hand and continued it's march towards it's target.

Gabriel stumbled back a few steps, breathing hard as he stared with shock at what he'd just witnessed. The young man was no stranger to fighting, and he was usually pretty full throttle, but he'd never faced an opponent that made it seem so...hopeless.

Alexion Wylde jumped back with another whip of energy lashing out at him, catching his breathing as he used his phaser to physically hit back. He growled deep in his throat as a crimson tendril wrapped around his now gloveless wrist. Alexion's eyes narrowed and jaw tightened as he used his Talent to absorb the energy, making the tentacle harmless against his skin. He hit out hard when the creature recoiled at the effect, but ducked quickly at the next swipe; although being able to absorb the energy from the tendrils made them a lesser threat to Alexion, he still had no weapon to use against them...the things were too overwhelming in energy for him to be able to drain to the point of collapse.

Recovering his position ahead of the team Luke began helping with the extraction "Lets move people" Grabbing hold of two team mates who he couldn't care to look he pushed the in the direction of the rest of the retreating people. The roof had started to crumble and Luke didn't want anyone stuck on the wrong side. Pulling out a grenade he slung his rifle and readied it. "Lets go!" He shouted again.

Dodging the slashing tentacles as much as possible, Oren felt each failure as a sharp, burning pain in several parts of his body. He tried his best not to focus on the fact that he was completely helpless as he pushed back with the rest of the team. Seeing a flash of red in the corner of his eye, Oren jumped and felt himself slam against one of the rocks before pushing himself away as if burned, images of possibly being pulled in running through his head.

The entire time, he kept his tricorder in his hands, holding it even tighter as he felt the warm, slickness covering his hand underneath the glove. He was surprised that he felt no real pain with the adrenaline rushing through his system, but knew in the back of his head that he would definitely be feeling it later. But, for the moment, it felt as the only thing Oren's eyes were capable of seeing was red, the rest of his surroundings only a passing through his body seemed to be able to navigate around on instinct.

Within all of the commotion and trying to keep himself alive while avoiding bumping into anyone, Oren let out a surprised yelp when something strangely solid and strong grabbed his suit and yanked him backwards. In a fit of panic, he struggled against the hold.
