Mission Summary
Since the end of the Dominion War in late 2375, relations between the Cardassian Union and the UFP have been strained at times yet overall very progressive. Once mortal enemies in battle, the animosity and distrust between the two empires has remained subdued, and relations between the two factions in 2390 are now more stable and amiable than ever before. Following the Third Federation-Cardassian Treaty of 2380, both sides have since entered into a new era of cooperation and mutual progress as evidenced by an increasing number of new trade agreements and joint colonies. One such colony exists on Lyshan III, a Class K planet located in Federation space along the Cardassian border which contains large concentrations of uridium used for Cardassian starship construction. The colony supports a small mixed population of Humans and Cardassians, both working together to mine and extract the rare natural resource for mutual benefit.
Uridium exports from Lyshan III have been rich and stable throughout the past 24 months, however recently within the last two weeks, ore exports have slowed to a halt. Subsequent investigation from Federation mining and logistics operations has identified a series of unusual reports from the colony's inhabitants, including the detection of strange subterranean power signatures, impenetrable rock formations, and the appearance of metaphysical manifestations.
With members of the mining colony on edge and reluctant to continue their work, the Federation has dispatched USS Galileo and its planetary science team to investigate the phenomena and identify the true causes of the labor disruption. Meanwhile aboard aboard the ship, a recent influx of pet tribbles from Rigel VII turns troublesome when several tribbles are accidentally left unattended with access to food...
