Mission: Episode 06 - Legend of Souls
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 3, Sickbay
Timeline: MD 07 - 1525 hrs

Previously, on Legend of Souls (Part 4)...

"Saalm to all medical staff, we have incoming casualties be beamed directly to sickbay. Prepare for a triage situation," she called out to every medical officer currently aboard the ship. With close to twenty of the away team who were about to be transported into the tiny sickbay, it was no doubt about to become a chaotic scene.

And Now, the Continuation...

[ON]

Olsam neglected to respond to the Commodore as his mind had already leapt a thousand steps ahead at hearing the words "triage." Emergency medicine happened to be a specialty of his, and he looked almost delighted to hear the words. Finally, a real emergency, and he was already on duty! He'd be right in the heart of it when they transported in...

"Mott to Doctor Mercy," Olsam said after tapping his commbadge, opening a link to one of the other physicians on board. There were only two open biobeds in Sickbay, and that certainly wasn't going to accommodate everyone. Thankfully, the holodecks had Sickbay simulations at the ready, bringing to life sophisticated equipment to begin treating those patients deemed non-critical. "Report to Holodeck 1, activate the emergency treatment program, and prepare for incoming triage patients."

"Acknowledged doctor," Naois responded, "I will get there as fast as I can."

"Understood," Olsam said, tapping his commbadge again to sever the connection. The Bolian physician paused for only a moment to take a quick assessment of the room, then spoke to the air.

"Computer, activate Emergency Medical Hologram." He didn't even wait for the jabbering idiot to finish his whole "please state the nature," instead interrupting him. "We have incoming casualties from the surface. Dr. Voutilainen and I will use the standard Federation triage classification system to identify patient status; critically injured crewmembers will remain in Sickbay for treatment while the remainder will be transported to Holodeck 1. Transfer your program there, and assist Dr. Mercy with the wounded. Dr. Wylde will be along to assist you as soon as possible."

Even if his activation sequence had been interrupted the hologram quickly understood the seriousness of the situation and activated the transfer protocol within it's program, and after a moment more staring at the face of the Bolian, it dematerialised and disappeared.

Naois acknowledged the arrival of the EMH. "Doctor," he greeted briefly, before continuing preparations. "Doctor Mott, holodeck is ready to receive."

Lirha quickly activated the transporter sequence from the ship's bridge. She watched as the team began to be transported back aboard the ship's primary medical facility in groups of six, until after the forth cycle there remained no further humanoid life signs on the planet below.

"Sickbay, do you have them?!" said the commodore with urgency in her voice while waiting for a report from the current medical officers who had hopefully received the entire team.

Olsam took only the briefest moment to tap his commbadge, "We have them, Commodore. Please tell Ops to stand by for site-to-site transport to Holodeck One." If there was a response, he didn't hear it. Ordinarily scatter-brained (at best), he found himself in his element at that moment. His eyes were narrowly focused on the medical tricorder in front of him as the sensor wand waved over one of the most critical looking patients, sending back detailed information on their status. Somewhere in his peripheral vision he recognized that Tuula was doing much the same, going through a hundred different considerations while trying to make determinations as to a patient's status. One missed variable might lead to a complete misunderstanding of the patient's condition, tagging them as "non-critical" when, in fact, they were in need of immediate attention.

The transport was instantaneous and before the beam took a hold of him fully, Elijah blew out a relieved sigh. His whole spine felt like it was on fire but he wasn't concerned about himself, he would be fine. He was worried about the others and he wanted to be sure the others got medical attention first. I've endured worse physical pain, he thought to himself as the beam fully took a hold of him and moments later deposited in sickbay.

Finding himself sitting on the deckplates in Sickbay invigorated Andreus Kohl. It was sense memory, perhaps. The overhead lighting in here felt like steep-expectations and fear of failure. He had to get up, he had to be of use. Like Elijah, he foolishly ignored the painful signals his lower back was screaming at him. Kohl immediately began to remove his environmental suit, glove by glove, boot by boot.

Olsam spotted Kohl once the environmental suit's helmet had been removed and seemed relieved to see another medical professional. He crossed the distance between them in only a few moments and had a medical tricorder in the other man's face, somewhat annoyingly taking readings from him. There was an absence of major trauma, but his movements and neural readings seemed to indicate to small amount of pain.

"Lieutenant Kohl, are you well enough to assist with treatment? There are a handful of minor cases that just need quick work - dermal regenerators, osteogenic regenetators, things of the like," the Bolian said, leaning down a bit and turning his head to look Kohl in the face. He put his hand on the Argelian's arm in an effort to try to help steady him while he removed portions of the environmental suit.

"Yeah," Kohl said immediately, without thought. There was almost a defensive quality to his voice, as if he were daring Olsam to tell Kohl that he couldn't help. When Kohl wobbled on his feet, and Olsam steadied him, Kohl breathed out a quick, "Thanks," and then he went back to what he was saying. "I mean, yes, I wasn't much use down there. Put me to work."

Olsam lifted an eyebrow at the tone, but now hardly seemed like the time to start questioning one of the members of a highly traumatized away team. He squeezed Kohl's arm reassuringly and gestured toward the door. "We're sending most of the minor cases to the holodeck. Dr. Mercy and the EMH are down there, and I'm sure they could use your expertise."

Luke had materialised with the rest of the away team, his bruised ribs feeling an ache of pain which sent sparks of electricity through his body. The breathable air was a great relief for his lungs as they began almost instantly to return to their normal pattern of breathing, that's when Luke noticed Commander Mailin on the floor still not moving. Moving forward through the small crowded space he knelt down next to her and checked her pulse by putting his fingers on her neck and his ear closely to her mouth as he listened for any sign of life.

To Luke's relief she was still alive, just unconscious most likely effects from being mind probed by the alien entities. "Doctor!" He shouted looking around, the away team was slowly being moved around by freshly cleaned medical personnel they must have looked like a scene out of a disaster holonovel. He couldn't se one person of the away team without dried blood either their own or someone else and dust covering them.

Olsam appeared next to Luke and Dea, kneeling down next to them with the sensor wand of the medical tricorder already detached. He kept one eye on the tricorder, assessing Mialin, while doing a quick visual check of Luke. Cyanosis in the hands, indicative of hypoxia; shortness of breath, indicative of damaged respiratory system or related functions; unfocused pupils, shallow breathing, generalized panic: patient is suffering from shock.

"Lieutenant Wyatt, you need to sit down, please," Olsam said, reaching into his doctor's coat and grabbing a hypospray of improvoline. He checked the dosage and without warning depressed the device against Luke's neck. "This will help... Take a deep breath, take a moment to collect your thoughts, and you'll be fine."

Though Dea wasn't conscious it was clear something unsettled her greatly as if she was living some nightmare. Involuntarily she began to struggle as if to get away from something. That only made the pain Dea was experiencing surface more vividly.

Amynta let out a breath as she materialized. She looked around, taking it all in. There were wounded. Sickbay was hectic already. She removed her helmet and moved towards the door. Sometimes, it was better to get out of the way. Besides, she knew she had other options when it came to her head.

Aria Rice let out a breath as she pulled off her helmet, catching her breath as she looked around, with wide eyes. She felt like kissing the deck. She really felt like doing that because, wow...intense much? But she was fine, she knew she was fine. She saw Markos leave, her breath catching. She noticed how she was moving. So Markos was sneaking out, not a 100%? Well. Her call and Aria did not cross grumpy Intelligence Chiefs. Instead, she moved back, towards the wall, her eyes going to Siren with worry.

Grayson was next to feel the relief of being back home on the ship. Still clutching his arm, he knew he was not the most serious case there. Somehow with his good arm he managed to pry off his helmet and walk off the transporter pad.

Dr. Mott popped up next to the Assistant Chief Engineer and gave him a quick but thorough scan with the medical tricorder. "Supracondylar fracture of the humerus... Proximal fracture of the ulna... Ulnar nerve damage at the medial epicondyle." Olsam stopped and looked up at him, as if noticing this was a live person standing in front of him for the first time. The look on his face was completely boggled. "What were you doing down there?" Without waiting for a response, he continued on, "You'll need significant work with the osteogenic regenerator; for now, all I can give you is an analgesic." The hypospray came out of the doctor's coat and against Grayson's neck so quickly he probably couldn't have dodged even if he wanted to. "Have a seat there, and do not move that arm, understood?"

"Won't move, got it." Grayson stated as he felt a mild relief of the pain. "We were down trying to assess the situation and rescue the first team. I was down to assist the Chief on some of the engineering problems we encountered."

Olsam paused only long enough to process what Grayson was saying, storing it off somewhere in his memory to add to the treatment file. He couldn't imagine was sort of engineering problems might result in such a complicated fracture, but it wasn't going to have any impact on the treatment and there were too many other patients to treat for him to stand around satisfying his medical curiosity. With a quick, comforting, reassuring squeeze to Grayson's good arm and a smile, Olsam nodded and dashed off to the next patient.

Dr. Alexion Wylde immediately stepped out of the Away Team that had been beamed in, pulling off the remainder of his environmental suit with firm hands. "We have two unconscious, one from an open wound the other from contact with an unknown non-corporeal species, another in and out of consciousness, a compound fracture of the leg, an arm fracture, a knee dislocation, amputated fingers, and more concussions, undetected fractures and scrapes than I can tell..." he counted off to the others as he walked past them. "...oh, and we were all hit by some weird alien wave thing. I shall 'scrub up' for surgery, in case it is needed...."
