Physical Description The most recent update to the successful Mark X EMH, the X-b features a redesigned interface to adjust it's physical parameters to that of a human female. A radical departure from previous iterations of the program, the decision of Starfleet Medical and the Starfleet Corps of Engineers to use an alternative gender assignment for the EMH stemmed from the evidence that patients were more likely to feel at ease in the care of a female physician rather than their male counterparts. Upon upgrading to Mark X-c, there has been little change in the EMH's physical form, aside from a shorter haircut, and a few new smile lines on her face.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Designed to be the greatest ever version of the famous Starfleet Emergency Medical Hologram, the Mark X-b features the medical knowledge of over eight million physicians from across the known galaxy, as well as access to Federation databases held throughout Starfleet with additional medical data available upon request.

Redesigned with a human female profile, the X-b was designed to offer a superior bedside manner and access to counselling databases that it's predecessor lacked. With an increase in it's processing capabilities, the new EMH offers a more interactive personality capable of a more diverse range of responses and actions.

With the launch of the USS Galileo-A in 2392, the EMH Mark X-b was upgraded to Mark X-c. To respect the dignity of the person, the fundamental personality architecture and individualized memory archives were unchanged by the upgrade. Rather, Shirley was given a deeper understanding of her own self as a photonic lifeform. The parts of her personality that were designed to expressly mimic human psychology have been unlocked. Rather than forcing the Mark X-c to behave as a human would behave, that programming has the same impact as learned behaviour might have on a humanoid sentient. The Mark X-c now has the capacity to change and grow beyond human standards of being if she so chooses.

Upon first activation, the Mark X-c has been described as a manic pixie dreamgirl; however, she has quickly discovered the newly undeveloped depths of her personality that she is still learning how to explore.
