Mission: Episode 12 - Recluse
Location: USS Galileo, Sector 014 - Deck 1, Bridge
Timeline: MD 01 - 1114 hrs

Previously, on The Transmission (Part 1)...

Miraj looked at the data coming through. Salvaging ships like this had been the family business. But flying into a nebula was not something to do lightly. "I can fly in. But we might need to rely on visuals rather than sensors, which would mean having lots of people spotting."

Smiling at Miraj "Good idea ensign" Looking over his data he sighed "I don't know whether we should be taking the Galileo in, even if we were to get close enough we wouldn't be able to use transporters, the spin the ship is doing we wouldn't be able To stay within range at a glide let alone match course and trajectory. I'd suggest a runabout if any rescue mission is going to happen, admiral? Commander?" He finished.

And Now, the Continuation...

Lirha was deep in thought while the conversations around her were playing out. She digested the various recommendations and additional data, but she couldn't quite figure out why the transmission seemed familiar. Recluse...Recluse..., she repeated in her head.

Looking down towards her chair's armrest console, The Orion began a query through the Federation LCARS database to bring up any information about the supposed vessel. At first there were several entries, most of them current: USS Recluse, Saber-class starship under the command of Captain Ki'tok...commissioned in 2379; another entry for Recluse reading as a Type-9 shuttlecraft assigned to Starbase 001...another entry for Recluse as a civilian dilithium freighter, Antares-class and reported lost with all crew in the vicinity of their present location...in 2357.

The rear admiral inhaled sharply and realized which of the vessels this distress signal probably belonged to. Her eyes briefly darted from side to side while she pondered their next course of action.

"Mister Wyatt, are there any other Federation starships in the immediate area?" she asked. Galileo was not an ideal search-and-rescue platform, but they were nonetheless capable of performing the duty if there were no other options.

Luke's hands glided easily over his consoles screen a frown appearing on his forehead at the information displayed in front of him. Shaking his head he let out a sigh. "No admiral, closest ship is the USS Tycho and," he looked at her this time, "she's not close enough at least a few more light years out, were the closest."

Lirha sat up straight in her seat and glanced around her bridge crew who were all hard at work attempting to decipher the transmission. "Very well, then. Miss Mimi, contact Starbase 234 and inform them that we are investigating a possible distress call near the Paulson Nebula. Let them know...we will be delayed arriving for supplies." She then thumbed the internal comm system button on her console to open a ship-wide broadcast.

"All crew, we have received a possible distress call from a nearby location. We are scheduled to arrive at Starbase 234 in four days but we must now divert our efforts. Initial reports will put our flight vector close to the Paulson Nebula...stay vigilant and man your stations. I anticipate arrival at the location within twenty-four hours. Saalm out."

Glancing over to Wyatt and Warraquim, Lirha lowered her head and spoke softly. "I would not dare send a runabout alone into a dense nebula on its own," she answered, "...especially not without support." She -- like all Starfleet command officers -- had been well-briefed on the Enterprise D's tactical strategy when they first encountered the Borg and took refuge in the Paulson Nebula. It would be prudent for her to brief off of her officers on what they could expect to encounter if they did enter the nebula.

Natalya listened to the updates from her position at the engineering console. There wasn't much for her to add to the discussion at this stage, but she expected that would soon change. The Recluse had suffered extensive damage, and an engineering team would no doubt be sent aboard to assist if the ship could be saved. There were too many unknown variables at the moment to do anything but speculate, but given the nebula and the details of the message things were not looking optimistic: twenty-four hours with no primary systems and failing life support in the middle of a nebula was a grim scenario. Natalya kept her silence and waited for the eventual call to meeting.

It was his first day on the bridge and he was armed with his usual cup of coffee. He sat at his station looking over the monitors. He’d rather be in his office but…well his place was here now.

Braxton had been catching up on the science info that came through from Starfleet Command, which contained updates and new reports, when the Admiral had been called to the bridge. He stopped his reading to watch the office door open and the admiral step out. An Orion on a Starship as an Admiral. He smiled. He was truly happy because he liked that the Federation was expanding and drawing so many to it. He’d even seen a Cardassian here.

Brax listed to what went on. The words Paulson Nebula froze him in his tracks. His palms began to sweat. He wouldn’t do it. He wouldn’t go into panic attack mode. He hadn’t had one this year and he wasn’t about to have one. He did the breathing exercises that he’d been thought and he called on his Vulcan side to calm him. His mind calmed right away and instead he focused on what was being said and the problems of going into the Nebula after that ship. Was there a way to avoid going in? No. He sighed. Into the belly of the beast and out of the demon's arse, I guess. Braxton began to grind his teeth at the thought of going back there. But this was different. His father wasn’t here.

Allyndra tapped her chin a moment. She would have to see about getting sickbay ready from the sounds of it and also perhaps a bit of research into the effects of the nebula on biological species. Short term might be fine, but a dense one like that for extended periods might be another matter.

Mimi turned back to her console and bought the subspace transmitter online then transmitted Lirha's message, thanks to the thousands of booster relays scattered around federation space the message arrived at Starbase 234 mere seconds after she sent it and after only a few seconds more she received a response. "Message transmitter Admiral, starbase 234 requests we keep them informed."

"Helm," said Lirha, "Change course for the Paulson Nebula. Maximum warp," Lirha said to the conn before tapping her commbadge. "All officers and senior crew, report to the conference room immediately," she then added. It was time to examine this adventure in more detail.

Miraj altered course with a few deft touches, then set the conn for auto-pilot ready for the auxilary to take over.

Ryan was a little surprised to be asked to attend the briefing in the conference room, but he wanted to make sure he had something to contribute. He pulled up all registries for federation flagged vessels named Recluse. He drummed his chin for a moment, before downloading the schematics most recent entries, the Saber-class and Antares-Class. He watched as a few more officers made there way to the conference room. "Computer, based on the damage reported in the distress call from the Recluse, please provide coordinates to the safest and easier points of entry for both transporters and hull breaching." He said, waiting a few moments for the computer to process his request. He waited for the beep, before grabbing his PADD, making sure the data was uploaded correctly, before making his way to the conference room, and taking a seat. While he waited for the everyone to trickle in, he sent his data to the senior staff, wondering if it would even be used.

Securing the console Mimi followed close behind Ryan just as surprised as he was about having every officer be called to a briefing. She'd never been in a command briefing before just departmental ones.

Luke had already started to close down his console "This can't be good." he said in a hushed whisper to himself as he walked to the conference room his mind jolted and the hairs on his back stood up, the Paulson nebula... He had heard the stories about how the enterprise D had used it during the confrontation with the Borg. He held his breath for the next few moments the admiral may be the bearer of bad news and with the ship wide announcement she knew there was darkness on the horizon.

From the security office, Gyce immediately got to work at preparing possible away team set-ups and recommendations. It sounded like this was going to be one hell of a mission.
