Personality & Traits

General Overview He is quiet and shy outside of work, but while at work, he is confident and sometimes sharp with his replies but only if he’s working on a big project. He tends to like to people-watch and to daydream. A big weakness for him is archaeology and anthropology because he tends to deal more with these issues when the opportunity arises rather than assigning it to his departmental staff. This also means that if he has a dedicated archaeologist and anthropologist on staff he watches them like a hawk.

While he can be bad tempered at times, he is usually very calm and easy to talk to as the department head. He cares about the well-being of his staff and expects to interact with them often to make sure he’s ‘in the know’, as he calls it. He is professional and holds many staff meetings and events for his staff to bond them closer as a team, but he tries to stay back and take the observer/coach role so as not to get too close to people.
Strengths He is loyal, he is driven, he loves his work, and is a detail orientated individual who loves research and reading. He never leaves a task unfinished and genuinely wants to keep his department staff content and working well.
Weaknesses Braxton is somewhat terse in the presence of stupidity. Those he deems unintelligent annoy him. He is a bit socially awkward when it comes to outside work relationships. He has been described, by his staff, as being too professional at times when faced with great stress.

Braxton is a dud with the ladies.
Ambitions Braxton always wants to learn more, write more, read more.
Hobbies & Interests Braxton loves to write, runs every day, meditates, reads, plays piano, sings, plays the electric guitar, works out a lot, and is known to have a circus program where he practices trapeze artistry. He is very good on the rings and ropes and horizontal bars, and while in the Academy he was known as the King of the Trapeze.
Vernacular Has Creole / Cajun French accent
Orientation Bisexual
Language(s) Spoken Romulan, Vulcan, Standard Federation, Betazoid, Creole / Cajun French

Personal History Braxton was born on Betazed and raised there until the age of 16. Braxton was always an active and curious child. At the age of seven he’d pretty much decided that his place was amongst the stars. In fact, one cold Betazed night he’d climbed a tree hoping to reach out and touch the aurora borealis that had blanketed the sky that night. He said he’d wanted to reach out through the clouds of light and touch the stars; of course that little episode had resulted in him falling out of the tree and breaking his right leg.

In school Braxton was in his element. He was smart, loved to read and study but was often the butt of jokes. He tried to stick with is studies and his gymnastics lessons but the kids were cruel and he was bullied, especially for having Vulcan ears. Braxton would often come home and cry.

His solace was found, not with his absent and clinically depressed mother, but with Marie, his nanny who’d been born and raised on Earth. She was a beautiful soul a Creole/Cajun woman who’s faith and her devotion to Braxton made everything seem right. She was the mother he needed. She was nurturing and loving and kind but even she couldn’t protect him from his father’s disapproval and hatred.

Braxton looked up to his father, and wanted to be in Starfleet like him but his father’s constant critical words and his tendency to put the boy down no matter what he tried crushed young Braxton’s soul. Marie, again, was there to pick up the shattered bits of his heart.

When Braxton was 15 Marie left. That left him alone with two people who should never have been parents. An emotionally distant, depressed mother, and a verbally abusive father who made Braxton fell like he was never good enough.

Starfleet History When Braxton turned 16 his father, at that point, had been moved to Starfleet HQ and insisted that his son start with Starfleet prep courses. It was in those courses where he learned that he loved science. When he turned 18, his father, Admiral S’Tolmek, forced him to study astronomy and stellar cartography. His high IQ earned him a top spot at the Academy and within 4 years he completed his degree. Also during his time at the Academy, he fell in love with archaeology, and when he graduated -- despite his father’s protests -- he re-secured a spot with the help of an admiral who was impressed with is skills in order to finish an archaeology degree. At 26 he was assigned as a science officer and archaeologist aboard the USS Dragon.

During his time on the Dragon, a science ship, he served under his father’s command and fought a lot of demons. His childhood wasn’t exactly stellar and he refuses to talk about it, so when he was forced to work with his father, he hated every minute of it. It was then, working for his father, that he developed panic attacks due to stress.

After a few years his attacks got very bad and the counselor requested that he move to another ship. She found out about his childhood and concluded that the panic attacks were due to his family and thus she was able to help him start a new life.

He then moved to the USS Eden and was offered several promotions throughout his career, all of which he turned down. He didn’t care about his rank and was happy to stay at a low rank because it made him feel young.

At one point the USS Eden was assigned to study a newly discovered nebula. During that time, crewmembers started getting ill. The illnesses consisted of flu- like symptoms but resulted in a comatose state. It was Braxton who found out why. The nebula had a new kind of radiation that was affecting the crew. Working with the engineering staff, he was able to work out a shield frequency that protected the crew, and working with Medical, they were able to find a vaccine for the illness and prevent further fatalities.

Eventually, kicking and screaming he was forced to accept the rank of Lt. JG in order to attain the position of deputy chief science officer, the role he really wanted.

After his stint on the Eden he was asked to lecture at the Academy on his discoveries and has been doing so until his transfer to the Galileo to take the post of chief science officer where he insisted that he maintain his rank of Lt. JG.

USS Dragon Medical / Counselling File

2377 –Ensign MacKenzie was admitted to sickbay with panic attack symptoms. Referred to counselling. (Panic attacks recorded this year: 5)
2378 –Counsellor’s report: Ensign MacKenzie has been admitted to sickbay several times over the last few years. Client is uncooperative with counselling but I suspect it has to do with his father Admiral S’Tolmek. In my personal observations, as counsellor, father and son do not have a good relationship. The relationship seems cold and Admiral S’Tolmek is quite critical Ensign MacKenzie.
2378 – Medical Entry. Panic Attacks this year 8 recorded, requiring sickbay admittance.
2379 – Medical entry. Panic Attacks this year 11 recorded, requiring sickbay admittance. Three broken ribs, client found badly beaten in his quarters during mission to Paulson Nebula, no suspects as internal sensors not functioning.
2379 –Counsellor’s report: I have requested an emergency transfer for Ensign MacKenzie to another ship. I have learned from my sessions with him that his panic attacks are due to his father. Client has had traumatic childhood and I suspect that his recent physical injuries were caused by his father. I worry for his safety and have advised Starfleet Command of my suspicions that Ensign MacKenzie’s broken ribs were a result of an argument with his father.
