Mission: Episode 11 - Divinum Mundi
Location: USS Galileo Deck 3 Sickbay
Timeline: MD 21 - 1730 hrs

ON:

"Charts, why did it have to be charts?" Allyndra asked the mental question outloud but knew that such things were a part of coordinating medical care and that had taken a big jump upward since handling the module crashes. The sickbay was still busy as was holodeck one. She glanced at the chronograph on the wall. It read 0630 and in a bit over an hour would be a general staff meeting to find out how everything was going. She had not even had the time to meet with the new resident though he had pitched in like a trooper. Hopefully time to rectify that now. Residency was a tough time but on board a starship and with a disaster at the very beginning meant some really long hours on one's feet.

"Charts Doctor Warraquim? Why, they're one of the most enjoyable parts of the job!" The redheaded EMH replied as she wandered past, reviewing a PADD of charts herself as she tried to figure out what medical supplies were going to need restocking ahead of the next crisis.

"If you have the processing power you have and the boundless energy of a matter antimatter powered generator I could not agree more. For us mere mortals though physiologically it can be draining," Allyndra replied looking up at the EMH. "How is holodeck one overflow going? I have not had a chance to get there."

The hologram couldn't help but smile at the perceived compliment regarding the skills of her program. It was true that she would be able to process data at a rate far greater than any of her organic crewmates, perhaps that was why she enjoyed it so much? Cocking her head for a moment she accessed the sensor feeds to the holodeck.

"Holodeck one reporting all casualties are now stable. I think the human expression is that everyone is out of the woods?"

"Very good news, and excellent work between you and the staff that handled those patients. Now where is that resident?" Allyndra inquired looking at the chronograph.

Ryan stepped into the medical bay, he couldn't remember how many times he had been in here the last day nor could he even remember the last time he had slept. He noticed Allyndra. He was about to give the proper greeting of the day but he couldn't even remember the time. He shook his head to clear out the cobwebs. "Greetings sir, I am hear to complete the check-in process?" He said, holding a PADD that contained a copy of his medical records under his arm.

From somewhere behind Allyndra, Qureshi practically knocked over a medical cart trying to get to the pair. "Oh! Oh! Pick me, pick me!" He came up along side the CMO breathing heavy as if he'd ran from the other side of sickbay in a sprint to get there. The dark circles under his eyes showed he was probably suffering from the same lack of sleep as Ryan, but for some reason seemed much perkier than expected. When it came to time in sickbay, the young physician wanted as much experience as he could cram into a shift.

"Hi," Quereshi said before his eyes grew wide and realized he'd bolted away from Tuula who had been in the middle of explaining something. "Oh God," he said with a waver in his voice. He turned and ran back to Tuula leaving the CMO and Ryan to ponder what that was all about.

Allyndra looked after the departing back of the resident a bit miffed at such an abrupt departure after volunteering and she did want him to do the check in.

"Well that was unexpected....Alexander if I remember correctly."

Ryan nodded in agreement. "Yes Sir." He said with a smile. "Just coming to in to finish checking in." He handed her a PADD containing the most current version of his Medical records. "That should be the most up-to-date copy of my records."

"Please Allyndra, I do not like the formality unless needed."

As Qureshi headed back towards Tuula he saw her expression and rounded on his heels to come full circle back to Allyndra. He figured he had better chances with the CMO and the new officer. He had plucked a PADD off a cart as he approached the two again tapping away.

"28 year old Human male, 1.78 meters tall, about 70 kilos," Qureshi said as he read from the PADD. "Standard medical history with nothing serious logged," he added with a smile to Allyndra.

Allyndra shook her head. "I would hope your beside manner would be a bit better. While medical check in is a routine, still many do like to be more than just a patient. Perhaps you might want to ask his name, give a bit of welcome."

The young man blinked a couple times at the Ensign as if only seeing him for the first time. "Right...right! Of course. Uh," Qureshi licked his lips as a loss of words overcame him. He became visibly nervous as if everyone were looking at him. "I'm Ibrahim--Dr. Qureshi I mean!" He tried to smile through his awkwardness in the hopes that doing so would make his voice sound bedside mannerish enough. "How are you, today?"

Ryan smiled over hearing Allyandra's comment and the Ensigns response. "I am well thank you, albeit a bit tired. I am Ryan Alexander and it is a plreasure to meet you Doctor."Ryan said out stretching his hand. "What is your medical specialty?" He asked trying to break the ice.

Allyndra waited for Ibrahim to respond.

"I'm a resident," he said smiling. "So I'm doing a bit of everything at the moment. I'm hoping to specialize in internal medicine though. What's uh..your specialty?" Qureshi listened as he motioned to one of the biobeds for Ryan to sit on.

Ryan moved to sit on the biobed, a little unsure as to what was expected of him. He did like how informal the crew was with one another, for him it seemed to be more relaxed, especially in medical. "I am in operations. I Spent the first few years in the academy studying atmospheric sciences and engineering, though for some reason I ended up really enjoying working for ops." He said with a shrug. "I think it has to do with what I did before the Academy." He said with a smile. "Internal Medicine huh? Impressive." He said, hoping that he sounded genuine, in truth he had no idea what that really entailed, but wanted to at least pretend he knew what the Doctor was talking about.

Allyndra decided that the resident would need to work on beside manner but perhaps he just needed to get some rest as well, they all had been busy. She also knew with her hovering around that it might be more jitter causing and she spied Veri.

Veri watched the exchange only briefly, for she was busy taking down the archaic tools off the walls and placing them in a box. Decorations that clearly upset more than a few patients.

"Nurse Veri, would you mind assisting in the check in as well?" She asked the Deltan.

"Sure," Veri nodded excitedly before she put the last of the saw and scalpels in a box labled, Tuula's Things. Then walked over to the group with the box in her hands.

She turned back to Ryan and Ibrahim and explained. "Nurse Veri is working on becoming a Nurse Practitioner and I would like her to be involved," Allyndra explained and introduced the nurse at the same time. "A pleasure to meet again, and I leave you in capable hands." She was pretty sure about Veri but was still assessing in her mind about the resident.

"Would you mind giving those back to Tuula?" Veri asked timidly to Allyndra. "They are disturbing many patients, hanging on the walls. And they also violate Starfleet Medical's sickbay supply and storage codes. Name safety regulations. I'd do it myself, but the last time she and I talked she tried to knife me."

"I will handle it," Allyndra replied dryly. She did not care exactly for the style of decorations but then each to their own. She would put a note on the box saying that Tuula could display them in the office hopefully that would mollify any murderous impulses.

Qureshi was about to begin running the preliminary scans with the biobed to compare them to their most recent scan on the officer on file when Nurse Veri suddenly appeared. He gave the CMO a quick look to assess her facial expression. Her annoyance at his bedside manner, combined with issuing him a Nurse for a simple eval brought serious doubts to his mind. Clearing his throat, he tried to minimize his disappointment with himself and instead forced a smile on his face. "Nurse Veri, this is Ensign Alexander. Would you like to prepare the biobed to collect samples while I compare his charts?"

"Or I could just collect the samples," Veri offered. "Nurses are quite skilled. Though it might be good to explain to your patient why you wish to run the scans. And ask permission to do so."

Breaking in new doctors were annoying. They brushed past protocol and skated the cusp of breaking medical ethics and patient rights in the process.

This was not turning out to be a great first week for Qureshi. He had no idea why his colleagues were getting annoyed at him or why the CMO chastised him in front of a patient or the Nurse felt the need to explain to him what a nurse does. Doubt and low self-confidence hit him hard. He swallowed hard and turned towards Ryan without acknowledging what Veri had said. "Ensign, um-- Ensign Anderson. Apparently you may not be aware of why you're here or what a medical evaluation is." Qureshi tried not to look at the Nurse. "I'm...well I'm about to run scans and Nurse Veri is going to take samples from you for a mandatory Starfleet medical evaluation. I will then compare those results to the most recent one on file. Do, uh, do I have your permission to continue? Do you have any questions?"

Ryan nodded. "You do, though my last name is Alexander. A-L-E-X-A-N-D-E-R." He corrected, not wanting to have a Ryan Anderson have the wrong information entered. "This isn't my first rodeo, but I am ready when you are. " He said with a smile, hoping that he didn't embarrass the doctor any.

"I'll get the blood extractor then," Veri nodded with a bright smile. "Doesn't hurt at all. And if you were afraid, I could numb that area. You might like that. Lots of folks do, not feeling pain, that is."

Qureshi didn't respond at first, he just stepped back and watched Veri work. He did however discreetly check his chart to make sure he had the right patient. Which he did, he was just evidently really bad at remembering names.

Allyndra did not want to be a big pain but she needed someone more senior to at least check in on the two and she collared Mott.

"Do you mind checking on the two. Just a quick pop over and see how things are going?"

Olsam nodded enthusiastically and then, somehow, quietly managed to slip up behind Veri and Qureshi. How anyone of such girth and characteristic boisterousness could move silently wasn't immediately clear, but he did often manage to pop up places unseen. Appearing as a big bobbing, grinning blue head between their shoulders, he looked directly at the patient.

"So, is he dead, yet?"

Qureshi let out a whelp as the Bolian doctor startled him. "Wallah!" He said in Arabic. "I am going to get you a bell, Dr. Mott." The young man placed a hand on his chest, perhaps a bit dramatically, and took a deep breath to calm himself unnecessarily. "No he is not dying," he frowned. "And unfortunately Ensign Anders...Alexander doesn't seem to have anything wrong with him either." Suspecting another lecture from someone he quickly added, "Fortunately for the patient, I mean."

"Blood sample is for DNA comparison and he is in top physical form," Veri added and smiled to Alex. "A star patient."

Qureshi stepped closer to the ensign. "Right. It really is as simple as that, ensign. Now...normally these sorts of routine exams are less intrusive than the open theater we're doing now. It's because I'm still learning and won't be the norm every time you come to Sickbay. Do you have any questions or anything to add? Alternatively you can book for a more private consult with a nurse or a doctor at a later date."

Ryan shrugged shaking his head. "I don't think so, I mean, is this it? I could have sworn the last time I did one of these they had been walking around like a mallard and quaking, to see if I was cleared to be on a starship." He said trying to elicit a laugh from the staff that had been giving him his physical. "But in all seriousness you guys have been great." He said with a smile.

"Our pleasure," Qureshi smiled back.
