Family

Personality & Traits

General Overview Ibrahim has always had a plan for his life. Since he was little, he’d mapped out everything that he would accomplish in his life. The plan never wavers, and Ibrahim works tirelessly to complete it. While many would describe him as soft-spoken, he can be decisive and strong-willed. He holds firm opinions on what is right and wrong and will fight tirelessly for something he believes.

He is a very compassionate person and makes connections with strangers very quickly. He is empathetic to people’s needs and will work hard to keep people happy. Ibrahim can be overly sensitive sometimes and prone to forming attachments with patients on occasion.

Ibrahim has a need for balance in his life. He’s prone to burning out if he finds himself on a troublesome project that isn’t going well, or with a patient that doesn’t seem to respond to treatment. His need to understand the ‘why’ behind everything can throw him off if something happens for no reason or a random events forces him to change. Change, especially any disruption to his Plan, can cause him to withdraw and become overly self-reflective until he can make sense of it in his head. While he can adapt to most things that can occur in Starfleet, he’d prefer it if he could maintain his routine on a daily basis without interruption; something that happens from time to time on a Starship. With age and maturity, however, Ibrahim is slowly learning that the hard way.

Personal History Ibrahim Qureshi was born and raised in a small town north of the 53rd parallel in North America. His ancestors had settled the area many centuries before where they mainly farmed for a living. Now, in the 24th Century, the Qureshi’s have fully embraced the Utopian ways of Earth. Relying on their land and the use of replicators, the Qureshi family has been fully self-sustained for quite some time, freeing them all to pursue what makes them happy. Qureshi’s father is a nature photographer and spends most of his time hiking the wilderness for the perfect shot. His mother spends most of her time in the garden. A passion she’d developed when she was a child.

Ibrahim is an only child, but he grew up with many cousins, aunts, and uncles and he never felt alone. He was raised collectively with all of them. The adults acted as teachers and caregivers, and the children grew up and learned together.
By the time Ibrahim was six, he already knew what he wanted to be when he grew up. He wanted to be a doctor. The family supported his passion, even if they were never sure if this was just a passing phase. They allowed him to ask questions, and they showed him the answers. Much to their dismay, so great was the obsession with medicine and wanting to be a doctor, that he was beginning to learn a great deal on his own. Even when they tried to get him to socialize or participate in family activities, Ibrahim was usually seen pouring over medical terminology or quizzing himself on anatomy at some point. He just couldn’t stay away.

When he was ten, Ibrahim announced at dinner to his family, extended included, that he had devised the Plan. In this plan, he outlined everything that he was going to accomplish till he was as old and grey as his Jaddah. First, after Ibrahim turned seventeen, he would apply to Starfleet Academy and attend there for four years. Afterward, he would attend medical school, where he proceeded to list a bunch of different medical schools for options (to keep his Plan flexible). After graduating, he would apply for residency on a Starship rather than a hospital or clinic and find reliable and experienced mentors.

Everything had gone according to plan. That is until he failed his entrance exam. Seventeen-year-old Ibrahim was devastated. Failing the exam wasn’t part of the Plan, and it sent him into a slight depression. It took a little bit of coaxing from his parents before he decided to study again and take the entrance exam the following year. Which he did, and on the second try, Ibrahim had passed. The Plan was back on track.
Starfleet History During his Academy years, Ibrahim didn’t have a lot of time for socializing. He missed his family dearly but tried to stay focused on his studies. He didn’t make a lot of friends but was mainly friendly with most of his classmates. Along with next to no time to socialize, Ibrahim didn’t make a lot of time to form relationships either. There were classmates he was attracted to, but in his Plan, the time for that would come after he was a doctor.

Medical school was considerably easier than the Academy for him. Having spent his childhood passionately learning about medicine, he found it more intriguing than difficult. He acted as a tutor in the later years but still didn’t seem to have the time to make friends. When he graduated, he began year one of his residency on the USS Galileo.
