Previously, on Gods of the People (Part 1)...

The priest raised an eyebrow at Abbey's snicker. "You disagree?" he asked. "Even a warrior can benefit from seeking the favor of the gods."

She wanted to ignore the priest but something inside her snapped "I don't believe in gods, only humans who have become by rights all powerful and when I die I will serve Odin in his army for ragnarok," Abbey replied.

The priest laughed. "Odin is a god. One of the Terran's Norse Mythos, if I recall correctly. So, by wishing to be with Odin after you die, you are in fact believing in a god. And not a god of peace, as Ragnarok is the end of the world for the Norse." He waved a hand dismissively. "Believe as you wish. It is your right. However, do not use your own believe to be hypocritical of the beliefs of others." He was done with the conversation and turned to address another parishioner who wished to speak with him.

And Now, the Conclusion...

Other Chapel

Amaranai had made her way to the chapel in hopes of finding Allyndra. After their brief talk yesterday, she was glad that they would be able to talk more tonight. She knew that Luke would be getting better, but they still needed to get the rest of the crew together and rescue them. That was the mission now and that's what she needed to do.

When she arrived at the chapel, she saw the sign that pointed toward the back for other beliefs. Knowing the Akkadian belief wouldn't be considered proper for Kreanus, she made her way back. Looking around, she didn't see the commander yet, so she simply sat down and waited, pondering her life choices and missing her sister, Charlotte. Not the rest of her family - they were mostly lost to her now, but Charlotte still had a chance and if Amaranai were to get out of this, she was going to make sure to get her the chance she deserved.

Allyndra was later then she wanted to be. She entered with the two Klingons that seemed to follow her around and she made but a brief nod to the Amaranai before looking to see what there was. A few candles and mostly bare walls. She rummaged for a moment and found two candles that were approximately red and yellow before turning to her guards and saying, "You are welcome to learn." The two looked at each other then one mumbled something in Klingon and jerked his head. They left finally.

She lighted the two candles and then went to the front and then held them up. "Damqim and Alu'u showed us that no matter what adversity the gods put in our way, that we can overcome." She then made a series of movements placing the candles first to the side, then moving them as though they circled. She then nodded, "Come forward and receive the light of Twins."

Amaranai wasn't sure how long she had been waiting for Allyndra, but when the doctor finally arrived - with her bodyguards, no less - Amaranai was happy. She said something to them and they left, leaving Allyndra to begin a ceremony holding two candles. Listening intently, unsure of what exactly Allyndra was talking about, Amaranai watched her move. When Allyndra invited her forward, Amaranai stood and stepped forward slowly.

Stopping in front of Allyndra, Amaranai smiled slightly.

"I want to believe that we will overcome," she said. "Can you guide me?"

"If one was afraid of falling, then one should never try their wings," Allyndra said and then put an arm around the woman and turned to face the candles just in case. She whispered, "How did the antibiotic work? If need be I think we can slip him into sickbay. How are you doing?"

Amaranai listened to the guiding words from Allyndra and then allowed the woman to embrace her. Carefully listening, she paused before she whispered.

"He's doing better," she started. "Thank you." She paused a moment. "I've got a serious leg injury that has me hobbled, but I'm doing alright." Another pause. "We have one of the Galileo shuttles," she said. "It won't fit all of us, but it's a start. I know there are other ships around. Lu . . . Commander Wyatt and I have been trying to determine the best plan for escape. If you have any thoughts, they would be most helpful."

Allyndra nodded, "Come on by the clinic. They are checking people less and less so i can slip you in. I might be able to do the same for Luke." She specifically did not say rank and hoped that Amaranai got the hint that ranks needed to be hidden. A shuttle, a working one at that from the Galileo now that was something of a miracle and a gem. "Too many patrol ships at the moment. If you can keep it hidden continue to do so. Let me see about getting you two healed up and learn a bit more about the comings and goings so maybe there is a window. As much as I would love to come as would others, we might be missed more then two that are not on the roster. Once I have a better idea of the patrols then maybe we can arrange for you to follow one, stay in its shadow since we do not have navigational aids. Also, there has been talk about going to Kronos which might be a good time to shadow and slip away. We must have patience."

When the doctor used the commander's name instead of his rank, she had a feeling that Allyndra wanted to make sure that ranks were not known to their captors. As it passed through Amaranai's brain, she realized that it was best to keep their identities mostly hidden and blurting out rank would be a good way for them to be hurt more so than others.

Amaranai listened about the patrols and that the doctor was trying to learn about them. It was also interesting that they would be venturing out to Kronos and Amaranai wondered what that trip would entail. The shuttle could follow the Klingon vessel, but keeping up with it would be the problem.

Martin walked in and he immediately saw this place was nicer and a fair bit quieter than the first he had visited.

Allyndra noted Marin and though she trusted him, she was not going to trust this secret. The less that knew the less chance of someone finding out. She indicated that Amarani put her hood up and walked toward him before saying, "Blessing of the Twins little sister," avoiding any names. "May they light your way."

Amaranai noticed another person entering the small chapel and quickly pulled her hood on to avoid being seen. She didn't recognize the man but was glad that Allydra didn't give her up. But Amaranai did want to know who he was. Maybe next time.

"Thank you," she said quietly and moved aside.

Sitting down, Amaranai considered all that the doctor told her. She could tell Luke about going to the clinic and getting further help. They shouldn't go together, though, as that could be more dangerous. But at least they could get help.

Allyndra turned her attention to Martin. "Another interested in the light of the Twins?"

Martin had seen the commander speaking with some and felt that they had known each other well but to pry was rude. "Oh sorry Commander I didn't mean to interrupt you I was just trying to find some where that the priests were expecting me to give freely. I walked into one cause my leg was aching and they put the hard word on me. I'm glad Starfleet works on script. Though I suppose any cultural information is good so please explain away about the light of the twins. So long as you don't have to bite me for it."

"No one expects anyone to give anything. The gods once took a set of lovers because they were jealous of the lovers and put them in the sky so that they could only see and not touch the other. The gods expected their love to die away but instead it grew and grew until it was so bright it made the gods look away. The lovers or as we call them the Twins, showed that even the lowest can be greater then the highest."

"That is like many of the Australian Aboriginal Dreamtime stories about the sun and the moon, and even the ancient Egyptian tale." Martin said "I like your story and idea's the first place I went they wanted blood from a stone because Because they were blessed by the General."

"The rings around my home world are called Mo’ia’hina A’lahai Ho’oliki, Queen of Night Promise. Mythology says that they were placed there by the goddess that they would not do not do such a folly again. Instead they wished that we learn like they learned and that we are not here to serve them but them to serve us. We show our gratitude but never do we sacrifice to appease." Allyndra shook her head, "Well here I am acting like I am illm Ka'huane."

"That is a nice outlook for gods male or female to have. Does that mean your people accept help probably a lot more readily than most others?" Martin asked before he finished with "Illm Ka'huane and A'lahai Ho'oliki they sound Hawaiian like on earth so you'll have to excuse me if I say I'm sorry but I don't know what your talking about.

"That is alright. A lot of mythology which we don't really believe much anymore. Akkadia has rings around it though it was probably a moon of some sorts in times past. Like most people until they know better make up stories to account for the environment around them." She glanced over and saw a few others enter. "Well I am surprised either more interested or they wish to the use the place as well."

"Well ma'am your more science oriented than I am ma'am. I passed senior year science but didn't pass well enough to get into the Academy. I think that is why my brother pushed Stephanie to do as much as she could to get as wide a range of sciences to draw from, though that is how most myths start and change over time." Martin said with a smile. "I am sorry but I my lower back is starting to get sore so I might head home!"

"Of course, I did not mean to keep you here. As I said, we keep it simple no donations, no demands, but it does please me to have others take an interest." Allyndra patted the man. "Did you need me to take a look at your back? I am first and foremost here a doctor."

Varro and Braxton entered the chapel area. Braxton's gaze fixed on Allyndra. He headed her way as Varro headed towards the candles. He'd never understood the significance of lighting candles until Marcus. He stood there mumbling prayers Marcus had thought him.

Martin was about to turn and leave as another group entered and one in a fleet medical uniform headed over.

Braxton watched Varro for a minute before turning back towards Allyndra. He walked up to her and a group she was with. "Excuse me Commander may I have a moment," he asked.

"Of course," she said and indicated Martin. "Have you two met?"

"Not yet Ma'am." Martin said and offered his hand. "Martin Caine, I would say chief of the boat, but I am missing something to be able to rightly say that."

Braxton gave a nod. "Braxton, chief science officer." He said.

"Ah nice to meet you ma'am!" Martin said after the quick introduction he turned to leave so he could rest for a bit. These two had worked together long term and it seemed Braxton seemed to have something important to discuss with Commander Allyndra, so he quietly made himself scarce.

Braxton turned to Allyndra. "Ma'am...I have something for you." He handed her a pad. "It's my resignation from the Galileo."

Allyndra looked puzzled as Braxton handed her the PaDD. "May I ask why? This seems not the place to do this?"

"I will be sorry to see you leave us but perhaps a new life here might be just the thing." Allyndra leaned forward and hugged the Science Officer. "Maybe not the most formal of goodbyes but let us depart not just as comrades but as friends."

Rico had never been a religious person but listened intently. He had found the may religions, with a few exceptions, held a common theme in many of their teachings. He personally found this commonality intriguing. Was this due to some basic need found in early cultures or was there actually a higher power at work influencing or guiding all species? Such answers had no doubt been pondered by archaeologists, sociologists, philosophers, and theologians for centuries. One thing for sure was that he wasn't going to come to the answer sitting here.

Making his way out he came to a group of other Starfleet members. Some he recognized from the clinic where he had been working. All he really wanted to do was get out of this 'colony'. He had family and friends that no doubt believed him dead...or at least missing. Additionally he had a job he loved to get back to. "Evening."

Recognising Rico from the day Tuula had come round, Miraj smiled at him. "Hello again, Doctor."

Giving her a nod and a smile, "Miraj, so what did you think of this?"

"The priest is a little strange. I think he might be part Ferengi." Miraj grinned.

Rico laughed at the thought and remembered a section of a history of religion course at the Academy. "I have no doubt he'd be the first accused of that. Though it is relaxing in a way. If nothing more than to take your mind off of everything else...at least for a time."

"That was the plan, but I don't think that guy would be worth anything I could give him to run a memorial service. HE would just try and convert us all, rather than doing the funeral.."

Rico smiled at the idea and laughed at the visual image of a Ferengi salesman trying to recruit people into a pyramid scheme. Why that popped into his mind..he didn't know but for all the issues they had to face it was good to have someone that could make others laugh.

"Did you have an plans for after the service?"

She shook her head, pink bunches bouncing. "Not really. Getting the nerve together to go eat more of that pink goop that passes as food round here. You?"

"Well I might be able to offer something a little more interesting than that 'goop'. I managed to get my personal belongings returned to me. I have an assortment of beverages and some camping meal packs that didn't rifled through by our hosts." Offering her his arm. "Care to join me?"

The thought of something other than the pinky grey goop that counted as the ration the Galileo crew got made Miraj's mouth water. After a fortnight of the unvarying gruel twice a day, her stomach all but growled in reply. "I'd love some real food." she looked at his arm, then took it tentatively, not sure if it was too personal a gesture for someone she had only known a few days. "I never thought I'd miss chewing so much."

Smiling, "Well I can't promise a four course meal but ANY break from that sludge is a welcome reprieve. I'd even take emergency ration bars over that stuff."

"At this point. I'd eat weevil infested hard tack. At least weevils go crunch." Miraj told him, "though emergency rations sounds a bit more tasty"

Walking her toward the entrance of the chapel. "Well luckily we won't have to worry about either. Though that pink goop they serve here is probably somewhere between the two."

"I'll decide once I've tasted something other than said goop." Miraj told him. "Lead the way."
