Mission: Episode 04 - Exodus
Location: Borg Cube - Subjunction 3, Grid 4-2, Maturation Chambers
Timeline: MD 06 - 1350 hrs

Previously, on Rescue Team Beta (Part 1)...

Alexion looked with a frown, rummaging to get another hypo out of his medbag. He shifted forward, silent, low and balanced. He drifted around 2 of 8, shifting so he was always at the drone's back. With it being the last functional drone in the maturation chamber, he wasted no time in pressing the hypo to its neck with a swift, single movement, letting it drop heavily to the ground.

Scanning the room, Alexion frowned as he looked down at the drone he'd just dropped. "It's a match," he said quietly, kneeling to look. "The scan shows this is Barel...without her child inside of her."

And Now, the Conclusion...

[ON]

Quinn looked at Alexion. "So my Imzadi is safe, now for my child." Quinn kissed the cheek of Tarish. *My Imzadi. You are safe. I will get our baby.*

Alexion glanced to his tricorder and moved quickly. Seeing they were approaching the next beam out cycle, he wasted no time in tagging Barel, standing up and away from her as the time counted down and she was taken back to the safely of Galileo.

With the maturation chamber now clear of working drones, Alexion was free to move around, scan and explore. The sight was - extraordinary. Children of different ages in different stages of assimilation or maturation. He shook his head, pulling his shoulders back slightly as he got back into work mode.

The real question was; who to take and who should stay. What kind of decision was that to make? The tricorder had already alerted him as to which were from Venture, but there were so many other children. Children who had been defenseless when taken and assimilated. For Alexion, his mind was going towards which others they could also save.

He moved around, taking it in, studying his scans, searching and examining. In truth, many just weren't viable to take. The ones that had been taken prematurely or as babies had been implanted so young that they had become totally dependent on the implants, having developed with them as they'd grown, making a reversal of assimilation either impossible for them or too traumatic and debilitating for a good quality of life. However, there were a few that could be successfully reversed, even if they might have to live with some of the implants remaining.

"Lieutenant?" Alexion kept his voice low as he watched Amynta. "There are four matches to Venture medical records in here. As well as a baby that is showing positive to Barel's DNA. Any implants on them have been so recent that they should all be able to be saved with luck and work. From my examinations, a lot of the other children in here cannot be saved. They are too dependent on the implants. However, apart from our five children, there are..." he checked his tricorder again to be sure. "Eleven other children in here who could possibly be successfully reversed back on Galileo," he held her eyes. "I know we are full with the Venture survivors, but surely we have room for eleven extra children too." It was clear it wasn't even a question to him.

Quinn picked up the child of he and Tarish and held it close to him. "We need to get all these children out of here and back to the ship, sir."

"We cannot take all," Alexion replied, shaking his head with a frown, sighing heavily. "Only yours, the four Venture and the eleven I identified as possible candidates for successful deassimilation. The others are too far integrated and developed with their implants to be reversed, they will either die or be severely damaged for life. We have no orders to save others than our own, but I want to take these eleven children with us. They were defenseless when they were taken, with no chance to fight, die or escape."

Amynta frowned as she looked over at Quinn before looking at Alexion. "There's no reason to take those we can't make themselves again. Take those that stand a chance, leave the rest," she said bluntly, her eyes going to Quinn. "And not a word from you. You got what you came for..." she said and looked around. "The rest that we leave behind are casualties. Nothing left in them to rescue."

Alexion gave a firm nod and started to tag the ones they could take to be beamed directly to Sickbay, including Quinn's baby, but let him hold the child until the beamout. There were 16 in total. It would take a lot of work to restore them, but at least the work and resources would be going in to people that could actually be saved. It felt - satisfying.

Quinn nodded. "Aye-aye, Lieutenant. There is no sense in bringing those back that can not be saved. I hate it, but I know you are right, sir."

"Right, well now that that is all decided... Can someone help me with that thing?" Alex said pointing over at the wall where a data node was sticking out of the wall. "It's gotta have atleast some interesting information on assimilation considering where it is. Though... if we start to rip that thing out, we may have to make a hasty retreat."

"Cannot help you," Alexion shook his head, although distracted as he did another scan to make sure he hadn't missed any other possible candidate for deassimilation. "I know nothing of it."

Amynta looked over at Alex before moving to his side. She reached down, getting a knife from her boot before looking at him. "Might as well physically take it with us, right? Data is stored on the actual thing," she checked, but she was pretty sure they could. And it would be quicker than downloading all the data here...and that was only if their PADDs could hold all the information.

Quinn turned and walked to stand next to Amynta and the data node. "I may be able to smash the face off of it and grab the data link inside of it." Quinn remarked while looking at his repaired arm implant. "We'd just need to be ready to rock 'n' roll when I do."

"Or.. you know, we could use this." Alex said reaching into his bag and pulling up a plasma cutter. "We just cut the section of wall off. Might take a few more seconds, but it for sure wont be damaged."

"Good idea," Amynta smiled weakly as she looked at them. "Get Willis to lock on us and once we have it, we beam off this damned thing."

Alexion put the call through so the techies could concentrate on the job at hand. "Beta Team to Willis, we will be ready for beamout shortly, please stand by."

=^=Affirmative. Standing by.=^= replied Willis.

Quinn smiled and shook his head. "Damn kids these days like to keep things so neat and tidy." he said with a smirk.

"I'll have you know, I'm atleast 3 times your age...." Alex said as he turned on the cutter and started to cut the wall paneling around the data node. "Or.. Iella is."

Methodically and yet quickly, as the cut came full circle Alex turned the cutter off. Shoving the cutter into his jacket pocket and swinging the rifle around shouldering it, Alex grabbed two opposing corners of the data node and gave it a good pull, ripping it out of the wall and severing its connections. "Right we should go... like now."

"Beta Team to Willis," Alexion said quickly, his breath catching at the idea of being able to leave the eerie place now they had everything. "Get us out of here..."

=^=Confirmed. Energizing.=^=
