Mission: Episode 03 - Frontier
Location: USS Galileo: Sickbay
Timeline: MD 01 - 1300 hrs

Previously.....

Moving off of the biobed, Pola picked up a pile of PADDs at her side as she started to distribute them amongst the gathered crew. "Starfleet has dispatched us to an area of the Beta Quadrant which contains a diverse solar system with six planets and multiple satellites." Pola was repeating many of the words their Captain had used but due to the science nature of the mission, alot of it went over her head.

"Due to the close proximity to both Borg and Romulan space, the Federation also assigned the USS Venture as both a guide and protection of sorts. The galaxy ship's crew have been charting this area of space for sometime now and have picked up a number of points of interest which we are to concentrate primarily on." Looking over her shoulder, Pola smiled slightly at Scarlet in order to offer that she took over at this point.

And now.....

Scarlet nodded to her with a small smile before looking across to the others. It was different, being this side of the 'desk' again. It had been awhile. "I'll be heading up the counselling side of matters. We can expect tensions to be high with the danger of Romulans. And I'm sure I don't have to say it, but the mention of Borg, no matter how remote the risk, is enough to stir up even a toughened crew. So let's try and play that particular element down for now, but be aware that some crew members may find that harder to do. As always, we encourage that people should be aware of the surroundings and risks, but not paranoid about them," she halted, realising she was sounding more like her old marine self than the counsellor. Or maybe they merged into the same thing anyway.

"Given the trauma the crew has already experienced, the last thing we need is to stir up more traumatic memories," Delainey agreed.

"We don't know what the ships will find in their search of the area," Scarlet continued, shaking her head with a small, knowing smile. "So the age old remit for the medical section holds true. Be ready and waiting for anything and everything."

"My database is fully up to date with the latest available data on Romulan physiology and also contains the complete records on Borg technology recovered by the USS Voyager upon their return to the Alpha Quadrant. Needless to say I'm as well versed on both species as anyone in Starfleet." The EMH called out with a smug expression on its face, crossing arms in front of its chest and standing proud for a moment as if waiting for praise of some sort, before dropping it's expression.

Having finished handing out the PADDs, Pola made her way back across to the biobed and boosted herself up to a seated position beside Scarlet raising an eyebrow at the EMH's statement. "Sounds like you've just volunteered to help educate the medical staff in Romulan physiology and Borg technologies EMH. Due to the nature of your programme and energy requirements, I'll schedule in about two sessions, each an hour long."

"Well, I suppose if Starfleet still insist on having a primarily organic medical staff, then this hologram will have to do his best to provide the necessary training. Very well Doctor, I accept."

Moving away from the EMH, Pola looked at each of the gathered personal. "As Lieutenant Blake already mentioned, part of our jobs is ensuring the fear which the words Romulan and Borg insight is managed. We all remember what it was like in the previous mission with the Klingons. A few of you are new to the crew and won't have experienced this previously, but never be afraid to stop myself and Lieutenant Blake to just ask questions. From a medical perspective, we are to support our counselling colleagues in anyway we can. Be it referring patients who we feel are a concern or stepping in if they request our help or advise."

Pausing for breath for a moment, Pola moved on in order to be able to give the full details before opening the floor for questions. "Outside of this, once data starts to be fed back from the sector of space we are entering, we will need to be managing the away teams and the conditions which they will experience. This may mean that medical personal will accompany away teams where conditions maybe hazard. Also those away teams which don't contain a medical person will need to be checked over for foreign bodies before being admitted back into the ship's environment. We won't know more until we are closer to the area but the usual suspects can be expected in the form of radiations which result in poisoning. Also with some of the crew possibly visiting planets which may require environmental suits, it will be our responsibility to monitor the suits outputs and ensure that our people are in no danger."

Dawn took a large sip of her milkshake and peered around the room, her big grey eyes moving over everyone in turn. She didn't really know much about the Borg, but they didn't sound very nice. If they really had to run into bad guys, Romulans were probably the better bet. At least resisting them wasn't futile. Better not to think about the Borg, then. They were boring anyway. "That shouldn't be a problem," Dawn said. "I'm really good at monitoring. And chaperoning." Or was it babysitting? She could never remember. "So, basically, make sure we're prepared to deal with various environmental hazards, and, more quietly, the angry alien kind of hazard." She nodded and vanished into her milkshake again.

Sighing Nurse Sandywyne reached her hand haphazardly into the air, "So we are monitoring them when they come back, do we have a way of monitoring them directly then on away missions?" So far everything made sense and she didn't exactly have an insights to add. The EMH was nice though, he had a good sense of humour.

"It depends on the situation. If they are in biohazard suits then we will be able to monitor them through this. If they are without a suit and there is no medical officer on the team, we will at least endeavour to have someone with first aid training present so as basic vitals can be monitored and noted for any changes which we may need to quarantine the individuals for once they get back." Pola moved a hand across her hair as she studied the nurse and took note of the initial sigh. She hoped that they weren't boring the woman.

"Before, when people went wondering into danger but in communication range, we maintained an uplink with their scanners. So when something went wrong and someone was eaten we knew what happened, can't we do that?" Working on ships before Starfleet she was much more used to making things up as she went along rather than procedurally.

Delainey didn't want to interrupt the flow of the important mission discussion, but with the previous mention of staffing and the reference to possible away teams without medics, she decided now was as good a time as any to share her news. "Regarding staffing, I wanted to officially let you all know the Starfleet Medical brass has politely ordered me to relinquish my administrative duties so that I can more easily split my time as a medical doctor and therapist. Our very talented staff, including our EMH not withstanding, sickbay itself seems to be stretched a bit thin according to the brass, so they've asked me to pitch in on a more official basis. Scarlet and Dawn aren't getting rid of me that easily, however, as I've been asked to keep my own counseling caseload and to stick around to mentor and be a sounding board as necessary. Essentially, I get to have all the fun I did before but I get to hand most of my PADD work to Scarlet," she teased, meeting Blake's eyes with a grin.

Scarlet nodded to Delainey with a small smile. She could see how it would be difficult to give time over to medical when you had the added pressure of running a department. "And of course, you have us counsellors on call if you need extra pairs of hands in an emergency," Scarlet nodded to Pola. She'd spent a fair amount of time playing field medic in the last mission, so she knew just how thin that butter could get on the toast.

Looking around, Pola had noticed that noone else seemed to have any further questions to ask. "Ok guys...As always, you know where both myself and Lieutenant Blake are if you have any questions. Unless Lieutenant Blake has anything further to add, you are all dismissed."

Scarlet shook her head firmly, smiling lightly to her and nodding to the others. "That's all for now. Stay sharp."
