Physical Description		A young Vulcan who cuts a fine figure. His green eyes and chiseled face radiate a sense of serenity. General Overview		Though often encouraged by his fellow cadets to “loosen up,” he maintained the discipline of Kolinahr (more or less) throughout his time in Starfleet. Despite this, he has a curiosity about alien cultures that cannot be satisfied through mere observation.

Personal History		Varek was born in P’Tar, in the Raal province on the planet Vulcan in the year 2344. He began training for Kolinahr, the complete purging of emotions, at the normal age for young Vulcans but chose not to complete his tutelage. In 2364 he was accepted into the Vulcan Science Academy where he studied for several years. Upon his graduation he served the Vulcan High Council as a scientist and was involved in several important research programs. However, his career as a scientist almost came to an abrupt and early end when he suffered from a violent emotional outburst and nearly killed a fellow scientist. Realizing that another such outbreak would be disastrous, he left his work and went to a Vulcan monastery to begin training for the Kolinahr once more. Much changed for him during that time, and he completed the ritual in 2379. But a year later he surprised everyone, including the Vulcan master who had trained him, by making the “logical” decision to join Starfleet. He was accepted and spent four years in the Academy, performing well and becoming a member of the Red Squadron in his second year. Again surprising those who knew him, including his fellow cadets, he joined Starfleet Medical Academy rather than accept his commission, finally graduating in 2388 as a medical officer, with specialized training in triage, combat medicine and first aid, and emergency medical response. He accepted his first assignment aboard the USS Voltaire and a year later he was transferred to the USS Galileo.
