Mission: Episode 12 - Recluse
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 3 - Sickbay
Timeline: MD-03 1400

ON:

It was odd to be back on alpha shift but such were the changes necessary due to the changes in staff and positions. The first order of the day was to get the new Executive Officer checked in. Though he should have been here first thing, just coming aboard a new ship, getting settled in and the mass of information to intake.

While Allyndra could handle the check-in she decided her new AMCO should be there and had called her in a bit early for her shift. The resident was here as well, and that should be good for the Executive to get to meet most of the department. She would let the two of them do the formal checkin and then talk to him a bit formally handing over the reins as acting Executive Officer and stepping down to Second and see what he had for her.

The time was set and she stood just outside the door of the office awaiting arrivals.

"Waiting for someone?" asked Tuula, as she rolled towards the replicator for her morning coffee.

"Yes indeed, the new Executive officer is supposed to be coming in shortly for his official medical check in. I would like you to take lead on that but have Quershi nearby to observe. Afterwards, I guess I am to update him as I hand the reigns of temporary Executive over to him as permanent."

"Sounds great," replied Tuula. "Computer, one latte with a whipped topping. And chocolate shavings." She smiled at Ibrahim. "I hope we have time for a coffee before he arrives."

"Oh my, I'll have one of those too. Extra whipped topping." Wiggins said as he popped up quietly behind Qureshi. The young intern jumped a bit at the suddeness of it.

"Allyndra, Ibrahim, shall I make it three or four?" asked Tuula, looking over her shoulder at Wiggins, trying to give him a warm smile, though her black lipstick made it look a little more scary than she intended.

"None for me thank you. Commander welcome to the Galileo sickbay. This is Tuula my assistant chief and that is Ibrahim our resident. They will attend to you official medical check in. When you are done, I can formally hand over the Executive Officer codes and go from there."

"Ibrahim?" asked Tuula, looking towards the slightly bored intern.

The young intern was a bit slow in responding. With the sleepiness he nearly constantly felt, a coffee sounded like a good idea.

"Excellent," replied Tuula. "Computer, make it three," she added, turning to face the replicator as a tray with three coffees materialized in front of her. But instead of the plain, cylindrical coffee mug with the Starfleet logo on them which was standard, these coffees were served in skull-shaped mugs, with the whipped topping in place of where the hair might go.

As she handed the coffee to her new executive officer, Tuula detected a slightly confused look on his face. "I reprogrammed the replicator so when it detects my voice, it automatically serves my drinks in my favourite mug," admitted Tuula in an upbeat tone. "Coffee tastes so much better when it's served in a humanoid skull, wouldn't you agree?"

Wiggins looked momentarily aghast at the gaudiness of the mug, but in a flash it gave way to an amused smile though it was hard to tell if he'd forced it on his face or not. "You know, I don't think I've ever had the pleasure till now." He took a sip and sighed in satisfaction.

Allyndra was still leaning against the door. "You will get used to Tuula's somewhat darkish ways, though I hear she is a big hit with the Klingons. Until then I leave you in her hands." Allyndra looked pointedly at Tuula, "He is new, go easy."

"I'm always easy," shot back Tuula, before cringing at the double entendre. "I mean... you know what I mean..." she continued, trailing off in an embarrassed tone. "Why don't you make yourself comfortable on one of the biobeds while I pull up your file?"

Wiggins' deep blue eyes widened at seeing Tuula blush. Up until a moment ago she didn't look like someone that would get embarrassed about anything. There was a story here and it made his inner gossiper very curious. "Thank you commander," he said to Allyndra. "And I'm sure we'll be fine. I highly doubt there's anything in my file that'll prompt open heart surgery or anything."

"Aw, man..." Qureshi said in sotto voce. He'd thought no one would hear him voice his disappointment. But suddenly looked scared when he saw the XO looking at him with a raised eyebrow. "Well I mean," Qureshi said backpedaling, "cuz that would be really bad...if you had stuff wrong with you. I mean."

"Don't worry, we can practice open heart surgery in the holodeck," replied Tuula in an upbeat tone. "It's fun... and it's really easier than it looks. It's only surgery; it's not like it's rocket science."

Wiggins laughed, "as long as we're not practicing open heart on me we're all good."

"I'm sure that won't be necessary," replied Tuula as she rolled towards a terminal to pull up Wiggins' file. "Unfortunately..." she added, glancing over at Ibrahim.

Allyndra took a seat in the office. She left Tuula in charge and hoped that the new Executive Officer would be alright. Sometimes some just did not understand Tuula's rather eccentric to others sense of humour.

Wiggins walked to one of the biobeds and with a little hop, he bounced onto the biobed and sat up straight. He looked at Tuula and with a smile said, "Have at 'er, lieutenant."

"All right," she replied, placing her coffee on one of the medcarts and pushing herself towards Wiggins. As she pulled out her black skull-engraved tricorder, she looked up at him. "Have you noticed any problems lately? Aches, pain, erectile dysfunction?"

Wiggins ran his hand through his hair again, smiling at Tuula. She was definitely making a good impression on him so far. He tore his eyes off her tricorder and his deep blue eyes met hers. He said with a chuckle, "Only when I drink too much." Answering all three questions in one.

"Oh?" she asked, raising an eyebrow as she began her scans, giving Wiggins an awkward smile before returning her eyes to her tricorder. One of the skills she had picked up with all the comings and goings was the ability to carry on a conversation while staring at a tricorder in the middle of a boarding physical. "What's your drink of choice? Mine's Death in the Afternoon."

"Betazed Illusion," Wiggins said with a grin. "Its first impression is a drink that looks bitter and intimidating, till you add fire and it because sweeter than honey."

"Just like me," replied Tuula as she continued her scans. "You do have a fascinating anatomy; I would like to examine it further sometime."

Wiggins laughed loudly. It came out as a short guffaw. "The last person that told me that left me a single parent of twin boys."

"Twins!" exclaimed Tuula. Still smitten by Eelim, she was utterly oblivious to her inadvertent flirting. "That's so cool. I have a twin sister. She's..." Pausing for a moment, Tuula thought about Jaana. "She's nothing like me. But I love her anyways."

"The boys are nothing like each other as well," Wiggins laughed. "They're fraternal twins. Cole is into sports, ladies and mischief, whereas Jon is shorter and is into chess, boys, and calm reflections. Are you two identical twins or?"

"Yes," replied Tuula, pointing towards a small picture of her and Jaana on the wall near the office. "Not that you would know it from looking at us. She's... well, she doesn't have the eye for fashion that I do." With that, Tuula pushed an errant lock of purple hair aside.

Langdale chuckled, "we all have to find our own individuality, right?" He straightened his back and crossed his arms, "So, how's my checkup going? Fit as a Klingon?"

"Yes, though without the high cholesterol of a gagh-heavy diet," replied Tuula as she folded up her tricorder. "Clean bill of health. Though feel free to pop in whenever you want. That's what we're here for."

Allyndra had kept the office door open and it sounded as if the two of them were finishing up. She waited a moment and called out, "If you are finished Tuula, I need to officially turn over Executive Officer to the Commander."

Tuula smiled up at Wiggins for a moment. "I suppose we can let you go, Commander... oh, don't forget your coffee!"

"Yes!" Wiggins scooped up his skullmug from the biobed. "And thank you, again." He hopped off the biobed and moved smoothly to the CMO. His eyes changed colour as he took in her appearance as if for the first time. "Right, let's carry on with the official officiallness, yes?" He asked Allyndra.

"Yes, though I am not much one for that. I had way too much growing up." Allyndra stood. She held out a delicate hand, "Commander Allyndra illm Warraquim sir. However, Allyndra is just fine, Warraquim is my Guild House name not a surname."

"Wiggins," he introduced himself taking her hand and giving it a small shake. He took a sip of his coffee and beamed her a smile as they walked a little for privacy. "I've read the reports prior to arriving. Seems Galileo and crew have had quite a year of adventures. How is morale on the ship these days?"

"Yes they have," Allyndra waved to a seat. She noted he already had a cup and thus did not offer the replicator. "I would say good. I have only recently and temporarily taken on the Executive Officer duties but ready to relinquish those."

Wiggins sat on the edge of the chair with his back straight. He looked like he was ready to launch himself out of it at any moment. He took another sip of his coffee and gave another glance at the skull shape. "Well, you seem to have kept things pretty organized from what I'd seen briefly. For a ship of its size, I'm surprised by the amount of status reports that come through."

"We are a science speciality ship sir. There are a lot of reports on various projects in both science and medical areas along with the normal flow from operations and engineering and the like." Allyndra made a small shrug. "I am not sure how much you have had to deal with scientists but we tend to have a certain amount of ego, ideas, and sometimes that lends to problems personally. Unlike say the marines, it is not quite as easy to just order them to drop and give twenty and shut up. Handling personnel issues is a task I do not enjoy myself though I deal with it when I need to." She smiled and nodded, "So going to wholeheartedly hand that over to you."

"And I wholeheartedly accept," Wiggins said with a large smile. He was genuine in his statement. He really did like handling the personnel issues. "I haven't worked with scientists before, mainly engineers or tactical specialists, so I appreciate your incite."

Allydnra nodded. "As for myself, I think I am going to be asking for some help as well. The Admiral has asked me to take the Second Officer position once you came aboard. I have not been doing that since the old Firebird. I fear I might be rusty. Hopefully nothing in our near future that will be more than a boring gamma watch."

"I'm sure you'll do fine," he smiled. "If you ever have a question, though, I'll be happy to help."

"Yes sir," Allyndra responded. Wiggins was now the senior officer and with that simple reply the transfer of responsibility was complete. Somehow though she did not feel a great weight lift off but she shrugged it off to the experience of the old Firebird.
