Mission: Episode 11 - Divinum Mundi
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 3 - Sickbay
Timeline: MD17 2308

ON:

Mimi yawned slightly as she walked through the double doors into sickbay, it was late and she had been up most of the day so really should have been heading back to her quarters to sleep but she'd been told to see the Cmo for her medical check up and the Cmo liked to work the night shift so here she was.

"Hello." She called out to the quiet sickbay.

Things were finally settling down, oh there were still people being cared for but what could be done had been done, cases stabilized and so far all charts updated and taken care of. Allyndra shook out her metallic blue streaked black hair and sang to herself thinking of home.

"La’lena’ikaie maikai’wela in’eheha ka’ahoua lel’launa in’kai"* It was nothing special just a little song but it seemed to lift her spirits after the last few days and while it was soft, she put that full sing song effect of full Akkadian. Thus she never heard the characteristic sound of the sickbay doors nor the soft call that came soon afterward.

Hearing a strange noise that sounded like singing coming from the office but no other sounds around Mimi went to investigate, as she approached she caught sight of a creature that was like nothing she had ever seen before. She was insanely slim with long black and blue hair, eyes that shined like gemstones and wings?. Mimi was intrigued. "Excuse me, I'm looking for the chief."

Allyndra was not paying that much attention and so the words caught her and she bit the song off in mid-stream. "Oh, I am sorry, almost no body comes in at this time of day and I was just letting myself relax a little." She eyed the person in the door. Caitian perhaps but the looks did not quite match, a cross with something else? She was not sure, certainly some sort of feline base she decided. She stood and beckoned the woman into the office. "Come on in. I am Allyndra the Chief Medical Officer and you are?"

"Ensign Mimi." Mimi answered still taking in the strange features of the Cmo. "I came onboard this afternoon."

"New aboard. Well please take a seat if you are not too much in a hurry. I must admit to a curiosity, you are not Caitian are you?"

Mimi took the a seat, her tail wrapping itself around the arm of the chair. "I'm not no, I'm a Nekomi, similar to a Caitian but more human." She explained.

Allyndra knitted her brows first. She tried to think over xenobiological classes but could not recall a Nekomi. She hated having to activate the EMH and then plead total ignorance. "More human? I presume that means that you mean different from Caitian with more humanoid rather then being mixed heritage."

"Yes" Mimi said nodding. "I'm not a hybrid."

"Interesting, well I will have to admit I cannot recall from medical classes the basics so you are going to have to walk me through some things. However, I will admit I am very curious about your kind. If you do not mind me being inquisitive would you tell me a bit about yourself and the Nekomi?" Allyndra hoped she phrased that as diplomatically as possible. Some species found inquiry to be something of an affront.

"I don't mind, I always get asked questions about my species. Comes from being the only one of my kind know to the federation, I'm.... unique" Mimi explained.

Allyndra cocked her head. "We are all unique I suppose, however, I take it from that description you mean not many of you around. Well maybe we are not quite of kind but not many of my kind off planet either. I am Akkadian and as far as I know not more then four of us off world and I would know since becoming titular head of my Guild House which is the most powerful one on the planet." Allyndra smiled, "That is the Warraquim part, illm Warraquim means of the House Warraquim, which translates to something like knowledge gatherers or keepers. There you know a bit more about me, your turn." She made a little musical chuckle.

Mimi was again glad she'd been told the name of who she was talking
to and understood the pronounciation instead of potentially embarrassing herself trying to pronounce the complex name herself. "I had never heard of Akkadian's, until now." She remarked, even after several years in the federation she was still encountering new species.

"Because we keep to ourselves mostly. Besides we are not a Federation member only allied." Allyndra was not about to go into the complications.
"So you say only one of the Nekomi? A disaster or you do not know where your home world is or perhaps something else?" Allyndra prompted. She glanced at the clock and sighed. "I know a bit late for most and if you do not have the time or care to answer that is fine. We can get your scan done and let you go. Just not much that needs to be done now for me and we are naturally curious." There she hoped that would get the young woman talking.

"My species is naturally curious too." Mimi remarked. "I don't know where my homeworld is, I've never seen it except for pictures and I don't even have those anymore. I grew up on the first colony we ever made outside our home system, everything was perfect. Till some Klingons came." She didnt like telling this story so kept it short. "They killed everyone, a starfleet ship came by hours later and found only me alive."

"I am sorry, it must have been traumatic." Allyndra thought about that. First colonies were almost always near the home star. Very few species that achieved space flight went much further then some place close. Even on her home world the first had been short flights until the Ak'su had developed the Fold Ships.

"Well then, I guess we need to concentrate on you. What physiological differences exist between you and Caitian. Ears are different and muzzle is less pronounced, but that is the obvious.

"A lot less fur too." Mimi said and pulled a Padd from her uniform jacket and handed it over. "I had the Cmo on the Charlstone put this together as it's easier for me then trying to pronounce all these medical terms." The Padd detailed everything the Cmo had on Mimi from when they found here as a teenager to now.

Allyndra took the PaDD and perused it for a few moments. "Interesting and yes quite different from Caitian. I sort of case of convergent evolution I would guess. Well Mimi, let's get some scans done shall we?" Allyndra stood and beckoned. "It looks as if you are in decent health, but any issues lately?"

Mimi followed Allyndra out the office. "No, maybe a little homesick already though."

"I too still get homesick, I miss the feel of the Twins on the wings, the fresh breeze of ocean air, the rise of the rings at night. It is only natural and even harder when one does not know exactly where home is."

"The USS Charleston is the closest thing I have to a home now and the ships crew my only family, leaving it to go to the academy was hard." Mimi hopped up onto a bio bed as they reached it.

Allyndra listened. She had been a Counselor and had training in it. "I see, well perhaps there will be times we will cross paths, or times when you can get away to see them all again. Besides, here is a chance to make new friends, new family, think of the new opportunities that await you."

"I am doing." Mimi remarked "I knew I'd wind up leaving home again some day just hoped it would not be so soon."

"I know the feeling," Allyndra replied not bothering to explain. "Now let's see what we have...." She started the scan and nodded. "Yes quite different from Kzinit/Caitian, though there are some similarities. I definitely would tend to say that an area of convergent evolution." Allyndra realized that Mimi might not know what she was talking about. "It is similar characteristics evolved to fit a species into a particular ecological niche even though that species does not have any genetic linkage to another similar species. I find it fascinating, if you do not mind me saying so. I would have loved to study your world and see what allowed that convergence." Allyndra shook her head. "Well.....anyway things look the same as your last one. So I usually ask if there are questions I can answer about me, the ship or anything else that I might be able to answer."

"Can you really fly" Mimi asked, a little unsure about asking. "Your wings look very.... weak to support someone your size.

Allyndra laughed delicately. She made an odd rolling shrug which caused the wings to slightly move. "Long and paired combined with hollow bones and a lot of air sacs. Of course..." she chuckled a little harder, "some tell me I full of hot air!" She hoped Mimi got the the joke.

Mimi cocked her head slightly causing her ears to wiggle, she'd heard the phrase before but had never really understood it. She smiled slightly and made an appreciative noise.

"Now then I am curious about you as well. The anatomy of your limbs especially the legs looks like it is transitional in design. Observing you it would appear that you have plantigrade motion, walking on your soles but that you might be easily transition to digitgrade, on your toes. Am I correct?"

"Yes, if I need to move really fast or be really quiet I can walk on my toes, but usually I walk like a human." Mimi explained. "For a while I can even run on... all fours I think the term is.

"Fascinating, there are real advantages to that over Caitian/Kzinti. I would imagine then that makes for being able to do quick movements as well. The nerve structure would indicate that and I presume you can jump fairly well as well?"

"Very quick movements and jumping yes" Mimi answered with a firm nod. "I'm really flexible too. Not as much as a true cat though."

Allydnra nodded. "I must admit I am fascinated by your kind. Well let me sign you off, after I get a DNA sample but if you do not mind I would like to study your physiology a bit more. Perhaps see what exactly what you can do? I think it would make for a fascinating paper but again it is only with your consent."

"I don't think I'm quite ready to be a...... lab rat? just yet." She had had enough poking and prodding from the Charlstone's Cmo when she was younger. "But maybe some time in the future."

"Oh hardly lab rat but I quite understand. I was the interest of quite a few at the Academy as well. Well Mimi, you are good to go as soon as I get a swab for DNA."

Allyndra removed the swab from the vial and said, "Open wide." She made a quick motion and then placed the swab back into the container. She then made a motion on a PaDD and nodded. "You're free from my clutches."

Mimi slipped off the bio bed. "All clear? good. If there is nothing else I should get back to my quarters and call it a night."

"Take care then Mimi and I hope you will come by sometime even if it is not just to be a lab rat or a check up or injury. We oddities must stick together."

Mimi smiled, her and Allyndra were definitly oddities. "I think I will, thank you Doctor." She said, with that she turned with a swish of her tail and headed for the door planning on going back to her quarters and finally calling this long day over.
