Mission: Episode 07 - Sojourn
Location: Starbase 84 - Amynta Markos' Temporary Quarters
Timeline: MD09 - 1930

ON:

Carus smiled warmly as he watched the table, the little clay dishes covered with lids. He had made traditional Volan III food. Stews. Vegetables in spices. He had raided the supplies his mother had. He had even made the dumplings in broth and flat breath. "So...is it okay?"

"I can tell my mother has taught you cooking. She is a good cook, so it is good," Amynta said softly, reaching to touch his back, stroking it soothingly. He was so tall. Like his father. Just...kinder. So gentle. Her gentle son. "Don't worry, you don't have to impress anyone."

Alexion pressed the chime to the quarters to warn they were there out of politeness, but let himself in as he had grown accustomed to. He was in his casual clothes this time, breeches and shirt, and his son was stood just about behind him, clearly unsure with the introduction of someone new.

Amynta smiled as she moved to them, reaching to touch Alexion's cheek. She wore a dark red dress and high heels, her hair pinned up. Carus, however, wore dark jeans and a shirt, his hair somewhat tamed. "Laeon..." she said to the boy, touching his shoulder. "This is my son, Carus. Carus, this is Laeon...Alexion's son."

Carus moved forward, looking at the boy before smiling. "I...hi. How do your people shake hands?" he asked, not wanting to impose a human custom on the boy. Alexion was different, he was in Starfleet. The boy didn't have a choice.

Laeon stepped forward, clearing his throat politely. He looked about the same as a human 15 year old, and there was a clear look of his father about him, only softer without the years of frowning and cynicism, and his blonde hair was longer. He watched Carus with surprise, holding his breath. He was tall, really tall, and pretty darn stunning. "Hi," he finally managed.

Carus chuckled warmly, nodding as he touched his shoulder. "Hi," he said, his blue eyes warm. "It's nice to meet you, Laeon."

Laeon smiled, shaking his head as his question finally sunk in. "Oh, shaking hands!" he chuckled, lifting his hand so his fingertips touched his forehead before pushing the hand away to motion towards Carus with it. "And for men with kinship or friendship..." he reached out, clasping hold of Carus' forearm.

Carus smiled, clearly impressed by it as he watched him, his hand firm on Laeon's forearm. "That's not bad," he said and glanced over at Alexion and Amynta. "So, I suppose it is our job to make sure they don't get stupid, huh?"

"We may be too late," Laeon tried to keep a serious face, but couldn't quite stop the smile that broke through.

Alexion chuckled softly as he moved with Amynta to help her. "He left out the best greeting," he said softly, taking hold of the side of Amynta's face to rest his forehead against hers.

Amynta smiled, relaxing at the touch as she touched his arm. "I like this greeting..." she said softly.

Carus arched an eyebrow, shaking his head. "Is that like a super special version of a greeting reserved between...people who are closer?" he asked Laeon, genuinely interested.

Laeon nodded with a small smile, a slight blush coming to his pale skin. "Yes....partners, lovers, close friends."

"Ah...too soon for us then?" he asked the boy, but the smile was friendly. "Amynta told me to cook a lot of food. Just as well, I eat like a horse."

"Yeah," Laeon laughed, glancing awkwardly to his father. "Vaerons eat...a lot," he admitted, shaking his head with a big shrug. "We sleep less than you do though, so....it must all even out. It smells great..." he admitted with a sigh.

"Good...come on, it's all ready," Carus touched Laeon's arm, to walk with him. "There's iced tea and a jug with cocktails. All depending what people want to drink."

Laeon moved to help him carry dishes to the table, breathing in the scent on the way, letting out a shaking breath with it. "You have brilliant food. I love the spices."

"Me too. Especially compared to the...boring replicated food," he admitted, his eyes warm as he watched the boy. "I'm glad to finally meet you."

Laeon shook his head with surprise, setting the dish on the mat. "I'm surprised you've heard about me."

"Amynta told me about you and your father. I think it means she cares," he said with a warm smile, putting the other dishes down.

"It does," Amynta said and arched an eyebrow as she walked over. "Thank you for this, Carus."

"Yes," Alexion agreed quickly as he moved to sit at the table with them, sighing as he got comfortable. "The most I manage for your mother is replicated fare."

"At least I know how to use the replicator with...precision," Amynta said with a laugh, her eyes shining as she reached to pour the cocktail for herself and Alexion. She didn't for Carus though, noticing he was pouring iced tea for himself and Laeon.

"Thanks," Laeon smiled to Carus, watching him with something close to awe. Carus was, simply, stunning. Tall, blonde, high cheekbones, crystal blue eyes, full lips, just...stunning. "You're a marine?"

"Yes...officer too, just graduated," he said, smiling as he sat down and reached out to uncover the various dishes. "Just...everyone, help yourselves. There's flatbread too."

Laeon leant forward quickly to take in the scent of it all, sighing with the sensation. It brought back memories of old days. He helped himself, smiling at the warmth it brought, to be sharing a real meal, full of spice and heat, with friends. They rarely got the chance now it was just the two of them. "Is this what it was like where you were from?"

"I don't remember too well...it's how we had it where we relocated," he said, with a warm smile before glancing over at his mother. "It's...family meals are quite big."

"Just like the family members after we've finished," Amynta said and shook her head, helping herself as well before taking the bread to offer to Alexion.

Alexion smiled gently as he took it, putting some on the side plate before passing it around to Laeon. It was nice. He'd forgotten what it was like to have big family meals with energy and different ages. "My father used to give parties," he said softly. "Dinner would last 20 hours...."

"Sounds like the Romans of Ancient Earth," Carus said with awe, smiling as he helped himself to the beans. They were his favourite, even now.

Laeon laughed warmly, shaking his head as he reached for his drink. "That's what Amynta said when I told her about the baths."

Carus grinned, watching Laeon closely. "I always found the Romans fascinating. Their...social aspects especially. What they did. How they lived. Baths and dining and just...oddly sophisticated."

Amynta sipped her drink, giving a small smile as she touched Alexion's arm. "Well, Alexion and Laeon are truly sophisticated. And intelligent."

"You should not tell lies I cannot live up to," Alexion tutted, but with a playful smile as he squeezed her arm. "That is how I get into trouble."

She smiled as she leant to kiss his ear, her eyes shining. "I like trouble."

Carus looked down, a small smile on his face as he blushed, tearing off some bread and offering it to Laeon. "Are they always like this, or is this just something she does to make me feel weird?" he whispered to the boy.

Laeon laughed softly at that, leaning closer to him as he shook his head, ripping a smaller piece of bread off. "It's getting worse," he teased.

"God help us," Carus chuckled as he watched him, his eyes gentle. "We stick together then? You and me, Laeon?"

Laeon blushed slightly at the words from the handsome marine, grinning as he looked down, laughing gently. "Sure."

"Good," he smiled as he dug in, relaxing. It was comfortable. The food, the conversation. New and comforting at the same time. Alexion clearly made Amynta happy. It meant a lot to him. And Laeon was...cute and gentle. Clearly well raised by Alexion.
