Personality & Traits

General Overview Carus' a surprisingly warm and easy going individual. He is calm and collected with an analytic mind, loving finding patterns in things. Some might even accuse him of being a gentle man, without any of the real violence or menace in him. Truth is, Carus is a professional, understanding that part of his work includes violence. He does not enjoy it, but sees his weapon as a tool to complete his orders. He follows orders well and is always respectful towards superiors. Towards enlisted, he holds more humor and does not mind sharing a joke with them if they look like they are interested.

Off duty, Carus is a bit more private. As a gay man, he doesn't announce his sexuality to anyone, but lets them know for who he is or just guess. He has a good relationship with his mother despite her leaving him with his grandparents as a baby. He is close to his aunt to, as she took him under her wing when he joined the Marines. Psychologically, he is well enough balanced, but part of the reason he has not had a relationship is that he wouldn't expect anyone to stay long.
Strengths Carus is still young and with it, naive. He tends to try and find the best in others, which is both a strength and a weakness.
Weaknesses He hasn't got a temper that easily gets inflamed, but when he gets angry it is with a deadly coldness. He doesn't forgive easily either once his trust has been broken.
Ambitions Carus wants to climb the ranks and eventually take his own Marine command. As it stands, he knows he has a lot to learn.
Hobbies & Interests Carus has a keen interest in music, from ancient Earth rock to the more recent revival of holodeck musicals. He is a keen reader of history too, absorbing knowledge eagerly. He enjoys working out as well, more because it burns energy than anything else. He is also a keen cook, although he never really gets to practice unless he is on the holodeck or shoreleave.
Vernacular Neutral accent, due to his upbringing. He speaks clearly and uses sarcasm.
Orientation Homosexual
Language(s) Spoken Federation Standard, Klingon

Personal History Carus was born in 2369 on Volan III, a colony in what is now the Cardassian DMZ. His mother, Amynta, was 17 and had gotten pregnant by her boyfriend's older brother. Amynta had suffered through months of her parents and sister berating her for getting pregnant when truth was she hadn't even really realised what had happened that night. In an argument with her father, she packed her bags and left the house and her son behind. She resurfaced on Earth months later, saying she had a job and she was safe.

Carus' first years were quiet. He was oblivious to the political tensions. All he remembers of Volan III's evacuation, just at the start of the Dominion Wars, is losing his favourite toy. The family relocated to Earth's Moon, where Carus would be growing up. Carus was encouraged to read, to learn. His grandparents might have been paranoid after Amynta's wild behaviour, so he was kept on a strict routine between school, extracurricular activities and home. He would learn his grandfather's favorite hobbies, such as history and archery, and then help his grandmother cooking. His aunt joined the Marines and when Carus was ten, he heard that his mother was in Starfleet too. The first time Carus met his mother he was 11. His grandfather was very ill and Amynta showed up, out of uniform, wearing a tight red dress and her hair up. She seemed if anything annoyed at the situation. And yet, that comforted Carus, because he knew she was being truthful. She did not feel a strong emotional connection to her parents anymore, so why pretend? And for a boy who was starting to understand he wasn't fitting into the norm of what a boy should like, it was liberating.

His grandfather did pull through though and Amynta left again without speaking to him. But from now on, she would contact him and ask him questions. Slowly but surely, a bond was formed. Amynta was rarely called 'Mom', unless it slipped out. Carus was fascinated by her, by her intelligence and her sharp humor. Despite his aunt's opinion, he didn't feel abandoned by his mother; rather it was as if she needed to grow up before. His grandparents wanted him to go to university, to study and get a proper career. They stressed, repeatedly, that his mother had joined Starfleet because it was all she could do with her reputation, and his aunt had joined the Marines because she wanted to defend her home planet. He was considered too good for it. But his mother would simply tell him to do what he wanted with his life regardless of 'what those two tell you'.
Starfleet History So, when he was 18, he joined the Starfleet Marines. He did the aptitude tests and scored well enough to, after bootcamp, be put through to Starfleet Marines Officer Candidate School. It took 4 years of hard studying, learning all the things a Marine Officer should be able to do and deal with. Through that, his aunt encouraged him and offered him advice. His mother had become a Chief Intelligence Officer of a small science ship and would see him as often as she could; meeting up for her shoreleave didn't happen often, but when it did it was always something that brought them closer.

In 2391, he graduated and was sent to Starbase 84 whilst awaiting his new assignment, for extra training. It was the perfect opportunity for him to catch up with his mother.
Medical History Carus' has had the normal childhood diseases and has a clear medical record.
Service Record 2387-2391 Starfleet Marine Corps Officer Candidate School
2391 Starbase 84, training course. Awaiting assignment.
