ON:

"Mother, I'm done..." Nia smiled gently as she walked through from her bedroom, the see through purple tinted shawl over her hair. She stopped, watching her mother as she lit the candles. "Mother?"

"I am just cleansing the room," Lina said as she stood, brushing her dress down for a moment before smiling gently. She watched her daughter, her eyes filled with love. "You look beautiful in that dress."

"Thank you," Nia smiled, moving to hug her quickly, taking a breath. "This place will be better?"

"Better than where we were waiting for the shuttle," she promised, touching her daughter's chin, frowning when the chime rang. She pulled away, slowly, moving to the door. Her hand went out, to the candlestick, holding it. "Open."

Amynta Markos watched the woman, her face pale, her hair free and brushed, covering some of her face. "Nurse Vipsania," she said, without any hesitation. She knew who she was. She had seen her file. Her eyes went to the half-Cardassian. For all her dislike and distrust of Cardassians, she didn't mind their children. Children couldn't help what they were. It was when they reached a certain age that they became bastards. And that was just how it was. "I need medical attention but I am not going to sickbay. You have not officially started working here yet, so you do not have to report this. Now let me in."

Lina watched the woman for a moment, searching her face before she stepped back, nodding gently as she placed her makeshift weapon down. "Nia, get the brown leather case in my bedroom. And then make some of the healing tea..." she looked over at Amynta again, taking a breath. "I can only do basic here. Nothing as well as sickbay could do."

Amynta moved to sit down, pushing her hair back. A bruise had formed itself over her temple and it was clear to see that it had bled at her hairline. The fall hadn't been pretty. She had managed. But truth was, she didn't want to worry Alexion. Sickbay was too crowded with genuinely wounded people. Siren one of them. "I think I have a mild concussion," she said and looked at the woman, studying her. "Why do you have a Cardassian child?"

"Because she is my daughter," Lina replied, but with a smile as she bowed her head at the woman. "And you do not need blood to claim another as such. Only love. Now sit still..." she looked over at Nia, taking the bag from her and getting her medical tricorder out, to scan Amynta. She nodded after a moment, taking a breath. "Did you lose consciousness? Do you...remember what happened?"

"I didn't lose consciousness...I know I have some short term amnesia from it. I don't remember falling," Amynta admitted as she frowned, trying to remember. "I was...am...dizzy. A bit sicky, nothing violent. Headache and tinnitus."

"Based on what you have just told me and the scan, you have a Grade II concussion," Lina shook her head, her pale hand moving to touch Amynta's chin, tilting her head to inspect the wound. "It can easily be healed. A few painkillers will help as well, I promise you...Lieutenant...?" she had not gotten Amynta's name yet.

"Markos. Amynta Markos," she said softly as he let out a soft breath, keeping still to the touch. "Do what you can. The rest nature can do itself. I...appreciate this."

"Good. I might ask a favour of you in return some day," Lina said, in all seriousness. "Nia. Come and help me," she ordered her daughter, keeping her eyes on Amynta.

Nia carried the pot of tea over, on the tray, with the three glasses. She knelt on the floor, putting it down before looking at her mother. "How?"

She smiled fondly, touching her daughter's cheek. "Get some water and wash the cut. I will use the dermal regenerator on her skin and the tissue. I will give her a hypo with a mixture to help her pain and speed up the general healing. I will tell her to rest..." she looked at Amynta before shaking her head. "She won't do it, humans never listen."

"I am still right here," Amynta said dryly, watching the exchange with interest. She was trying to classify the woman. Sweet smile. Kind demeanour. And yet, Amynta felt something when she saw her. A recognition. Before her was someone dangerous. Not in a 'I better report them' way...but dangerous to cross. "I do not have time to listen. Give me a hypo to take later tonight or tomorrow, it should balance it out." Her eyes drifted to the child and she watched her, giving a weak nod. "You look like you have a steady hand, girl. Don't mess up the hair."

Nia nodded, with a serious face as she took the dermal regenerator, standing. She checked the setting, leaning closer to touch close to the cut and bruise before starting it. "I'll be careful. You have really soft hair."

Amynta looked at the girl, staying still as she let out a breath. "Your dress and shawl are beautiful," she commented, gently. The dress looked like silk. It suited the girl well, made her look...well, it enhanced her human features.

Nia looked at the human female before looking down, shyly. "Mother found it for me," she said softly. "She said that colour was a privilege of the children."

"On my world it is," Lina clarified, nodding as she injected Amynta with a hypo. "I recommend you do not do anything too...strenuous for a couple of days."

"It depends on what will happen," Amynta admitted, closing her eyes as she let out a soft breath. "Depends on a lot of things. I do not make promises I am unsure if I can keep."

"I like that way of thinking," Nia confessed as she finished, watching Amynta's face as she tried to judge if she was done. She finally nodded, trusting her own instinct. "Mother, I am finished."

"I can see...good work," Lina smiled, touching her child's neck before looking at Markos. "You should be fine now. But do try to take it easy. In case...you faint."

"I do not faint," Amynta said dryly and stood, looking at Lina and then at the half-Cardassian girl. "If you ever decide to follow your mother's footsteps, you will do well. You have a good touch."

Nia smiled at that, nodding as she stepped back. "Thank you..." she said, almost shyly, moving to stand close to her mother.

"I'll lead you out," Lina said, motioning towards the door. "And do not forget...you do owe me a favour of my choosing one day."

"I keep my promises," Amynta said, almost sweetly. She met Lina's eyes, searching them. "I have to keep an eye on you. You are a lot more than you seem..."

Lina lowered her eyes, a smile on her lips as she let out a breath. "You are too kind, Lieutenant Markos..." she said and motioned for her to leave. "It has been a pleasure doing business."

"It has," Amynta said before walking out. She felt better. A lot better. And there was a lot she could do now. Including going to her quarters, shower and change. She needed to wash the last day off her.
