Timeline: MD09 - 1230hrs

Min lay back against the raised back of the biobed, holding Lian as the little girl dozed in her arms after finishing a feed. It was strange in some ways, but also very natural, holding her daughter in her arms after carrying her around inside her all these months.

She glanced up when the doors to sickbay opened.

Jared walked in looking at least somewhat rested, wearing a big smile. "Good morning ladies," he said, "How are you both doing today?"

Min smiled. Jared obviously hadn't looked a clock and probably passed out when he got back to quarters. "It's afternoon lover, but we are doing fine. Lian just finished another feed and she's sleeping."

Jared shrugged, "Oh, sorry about that, you're right I must have been tireder than I thought. I had some dream about rainbows, little girls, witches, and scarecrows too."

Min grinned. "This isn't Kansas anymore." Shifting position a little, Min tried to keep from disturbing Lian. Not so successfully, Lian squirmed a little, opening her big brown eyes to the world. Min ran a hand over the girl's head.

"You want to hold her?"

"Of course I do," the new step-father said. He had never really held a baby before, but he had done plenty of research. He carefully picked up the newborn cradling her neck.

Min leaned back as Jared took the newborn. Watching him hold Lian, Min knew Jared was going to make a good father, and had been a good catch to end up with.

Footsteps announced the arrival of Delainey Carlisle, who stopped when she took in the scene before her. Some would say it was routine in a sense to the point of being somewhat mundane, but Carlisle preferred the sight of a newborn child to any stellar phenomenon there ever was or would be. "I hear this little family is being sprung today."

Min looked up to see Lt Carlisle enter sickbay. She smiled as the woman came over. "Afternoon Lieutenant. Unless the doctor has any other plans, that's what I'm told."

Delainey stole one last glance at the little one before she looked to Min. "I'll just need to do one last scan of you both, and confirm some things, then I'll be out of your hair." Carlisle took a moment to glance at the biobed readings to confirm Min was currently stable, and then asked, "How're you feeling? Any physical issues?"

Min grinned. "Aside from being sore and tired, I think I'm feeling okay. Normal part of bringing a baby into the world I am told."

Jared heard the conversation between the two women, but it barely registered with him. He leaned in and kissed his little daughter on her tiny forehead.

Sensitive to the presence of Jared nearby, but also figuring they were all adults, Delainey replied, "It is quite normal. Just come in if you notice the soreness worsening or if you start to bleed more heavily. I'd suggest refraining from any sexual intercourse for a few days to give your body time to heal properly."

Jared hear the words, but he was too enamored with Lian to notice too much. Refraining from sex wouldn't really be a burden for him, as long as he could cuddle up against Min and kiss her, he'd be more than fine.

Min nodded. "Somehow I think Lian is going to occupy a lot of our free time for the next while. But I will take that under advisement." She glanced over at Jared who seemed occupied by Lian and wasn't paying attention.

Allyndra heard the talk in the other room with her office door open but remained occupied and respectful as the new parents had time to themselves. Finally it sounded like a good time to make an appearance and she entered smiling.

"Well, never have I been so happy to see my sickbay nearly full. For once it is the joy of life then struggle of hurt and death. Now then...are you ready to leave?"

Jared turned towards both doctors, "If Min is ready, I am. I can help her back to our cabin."

"I was just about to scan the baby and finish up," Delainey explained, looking over at Allyndra with a smile. To Min she said, "I was going to ask how well she was eating but I can see she's gaining weight. It's common for newborns to lose a little when they leave sickbay, but we'll keep an eye on that.

"Well everything looks good and mother and child are fine. So if you're ready, your free to go. We will need to do a newborn checkup in a week and of course any concerns you have at any time me or one of my staff will do what they can." Allyndra said. "I think we can discharge you all," she added.

Carlisle added, "If it's alright with you, I'd like to come by to check on you in a few days?" Delainey made a point to see how new mothers were coping once they returned to their quarters because post-partum depression was a possibility.

"Certainly Lieutenant."

Jared turned to Min, "Are you ready to go? What would you like me to do?"

"I think I'm ready. Could you put Lian in the carrier while I get something a little better then this surgical gown."

"Of course I can dear," Jared said sweetly, "it would be my pleasure."

Min wasn't sure what the proceedure was for getting something to wear as Jared hadn't brought anything with him. A nurse recognized what Min was trying to do and came over with a basic set of clothes. "Here you go Ma'am." The nurse said as she placed the outfit on the biobed.

Min took the outfit with her thanks and quickly slipped the outfit on under her gown. The top was a little harder so she turned towards the wall while she quickly slipped the shirt on after removing her gown.

Seeing Jared was already sorted out with Lian, Min smiled at Allyndra and Delainey. "Thank you both."

Allyndra watched everyone go with a smile on her face and friendly wave and hug. That was on the outside, on the inside though watching the new parents leave with their new ones stirred up memories that still cut like a glass razor.

Delainey watched them go and stole a glance in Allyndra's direction. Without saying a word, she placed a hand on the other woman's shoulder. Some things needed no explanation.
