Mission:
Episode 02 - Resupply
Location: USS Galileo - Sickbay
Timeline: MD 05 - 1600 hours
[ON]
Leaning back against a bio bed in sickbay, Pola started to replait from hair from the top of her crown, all the way down her back again. She in the same clothes from earlier, the sky blue tunic which fell down to her thighs, a pair of black trousers underneath with flat ballet shoes to finish the look. Under the tunic, at her hip, the faint outline of her commbadge could be seen. Frowning as she realised how long her hair was getting, she mentally made a note to try schedule sometime for a hair cut..who knows, maybe she would chop it all off. Smiling at the thought, she knew she'd never have the guts.
Pola knew she was nervous, she hadn't seen or talked to him since last night. Ok, checking the chronometer the Doctor realised that it was only 13 hours, 22 minutes and....Laughing as she realised what she was doing, she tied off the plait as she left it lying over her right shoulder. She'd arranged for Kohl to be here; after learning how Doctor's had overlooked this procedure so much, leaving Cyrus in unnecessary pain for so long, the Doctor had decided that teaching this to her staff would at least mean more people would know what to look for. The first person she wanted to start with was her ACMO...she only hoped that he'd taken it easy on the alcohol during brunch, otherwise this could turn out to be very interesting.
Cyrus rolled his shoulder, unconsciously aware of the dull ache. It had loosened up significantly, but obviously it was going to need more treatment...and where there was treatment, thre was bound to be the doctor. He was grinning ear to ear as he left the office of Miss Blake. The evaluation had gone better than he had thought. All he could do now was hope he didn't start heading in the opposite direction. He was wearing some regular clothes, a dark green marine t-shirt the showed his SFMC tattoo and part of the longsword that went down his arm, and a pair of straighcut blue jeans with brown black leather shoes instead of the sneakers he had worn the day before. The weather was cool so he had stepped back to his room to grab his black leather jacket before making his way to the clinic. He glanced at his watch, noticing that he had, in fact, almost an hour to kill before the supposed meeting with Pola.
He broke into yet another smile as he thought back to the evening they had spent together, the bar and that kiss. He hadn't remembered kissing anyone like that before. Shaking his head of the promises that kiss held, he kept walking. Stopping only to grab a small bite to eat at a local cafe.
Kiwosk had decided that he was going to walk today and enjoy the crisp air instead of getting a cab or shuttle or whatever method of transport that would have been deemed required. It was his shoulder that was bothering him, not his legs.
His mind wandered aimlessly for several moments as he thought back to the short time he had been on board Galileo . He was readily accepted into his new department, went on a date with a doctor he had just met, and bumped into his old professor from the academy. It had been quite the eventful few days.
He finished his meal, a small sandwhich and coffee as he had eaten before going to the counselor and left a tip on the table before claiming his coat and continuing on.
It wasn't too long after that Cyrus made his way back to the ship once again, turning down the corridors and halls before coming to sickbay. He glanced down at his watch and smiled seeing that he was only ten minutes early to his appointment. The doors slid open and he stepped in side.
Reading through the PADD in her hand, Pola sat on the edge of a biobed as she had been trying to pass the time by reading up on the latest advancement of the use of nanities in current day surgeries. So lost in thought it took her a moment to register that she wasn't on her own anymore. Moving a piece of hair out of her eyes, she looked up, a smile instantly crossing her lips as she forgot for a moment to be nervous. "Cyrus."
He gave a simple two-fingered salute and approached the doctor, still in the clothes from the night before. "I have to say Pola, you really do make that dress. You still look amazing." He sighed and threw the jacket on to a nearby chair. "How was your head this morning? I don't think I was even functional until after brunch." He said, remembering gratefully of Eve's intervention.
Staying where she was, her eyes followed Cyrus as he moved, a small smile on her face as she reconised the clothes. "I was pretty bad but I had to work most of the morning, the joys of CMO. I'd no choice but to pick myself up and push on." As her eyes lingered on his arms and chest, remembering the feel of them against and around her as they'd danced and walked and... Realizing she was staring, a redish tint flashed across her cheeks.
He let her stare and gave her a heartfelt smile. "Last night was amazing. I should have brought you back earlier, so you could have gotten some sleep." He glanced down at her ankle. "I hope you didn't hurt yourself last night. I'd hate to think I made you walk all the way back on a hurt leg."
Shaking her head, Pola moved her gaze up to Cyrus' eyes, smiling softly as she saw the genuine concern lying there. "When your a Doctor you get used to the whole operating on next to no sleep. The ankle is fine, it was just reinjured slightly this morning when...well it's a long story." Still Pola stayed where she was sitting on the biobed. In all honesty she realised if she got up she'd end up walking over to him to give him a kiss. "Your right though...I'm not sure when I last had so much fun as I did with you last night."
"Tsk," intoned Andreus Kohl from the doorway. He was just standing there, leaning against the doorframe between Sickbay and the passageway. In fact, he was holding tight onto the doorframe. "I'm hurt," Kohl said in a taunting manner that suggested he was actually nothing of the sort. "Are you saying today's lunch was no fun for you?"
It took Pola a few moments more before she could pull her eyes away from Cyrus', blushing bright red as she heard her ACMO's voice. "Kohl..your eh.." The Doctor quickly looked across at the chronometer as she hopped down off of the bio bed. "..um..well I guess your ontime. Andreus this is Chief Warrant Officer Kiwosk, Cyrus this is my assistant chief medical officer, Lieutenant Kohl."So used to using first names, Cryus' rolled easily off of her tongue as she glanced across at him.
Lyrically, Kohl intoned, "Kiwosk." He nodded at the ex-marine. As Kohl padded into Sickbay, his eyes languidly drifted down the length of Kiwosk's thickly muscled body and then back up again. "Pleasure to meet you," Kohl said.
Cyrus forced his eyes away from Pola long enough to look at the Argelian, he nodded at Kohl, he eyed Andreus carefully, noting the length of time it took him to analyze Kiwosk. He folded his arms across his broad chest. "I think I saw you talking to Lieutenant-Professor Panne during the party the other day. " He chuckled and shrugged. "I see you have a brief idea of me, by the tone of voice there mister Kohl." He laughed. "I hope it's nothing bad, hate to think I leave a bad impression." He unfolded an arm and scratched the back of his head. A sudden grating pain stopped the movement just as he reached above his head, causing the former-marine to wince.
Kohl narrowed his eyes at Kiwosk at the remark about Lieutenant-Professor Panne. It didn't mean anything to Kohl. Kiwosk said it with amused significance, but Kohl wasn't in on that inside joke. Instinctively, Kohl laughed when Kiwosk laughed, and he padded towards them both. "In fact, no one would tell me anything about you," Kohl said to Kiwosk, obtusely. Oh so briefly, Kohl looked Pola's way. "Except for that injury of yours."
"Just like you said doc...still needs some of your irish magic." Cyrus winked and walked calmly over to the biobed where Pola was still near. "Same drill as before?" He said as he reached for the hem of his shirt.
Pola had been watching the interaction between Cyrus and Kohl as an outsider. She couldn't help but feel that there was something between the two which she didn't seem to be in on. Knowing Kohl had been drinking earlier, she wasn't certain if he'd continued drinking after she had left but she realised that she would need to keep a close eye on him.
With a slightly strained smile, Pola turned back to Cyrus as she readied herself for seeing his body again. "Same as last time...a quick treatment with the dermal regenerator. Andreus is here as I'd like him to observe the medical procedure involved with this. As you've found out, it's all very simple but most Doctor's aren't trained in it." Her last few words had an irritation behind them. She didn't like the idea that Cyrus had been subjected to unnecessary pain when it was to simple to ease it.
Nodding at Pola's words, Kohl closed the distance between them. He came to stand beside Pola and took a long glance at the medical instruments she had prepared. Kohl nodded thoughtfully, or, at least, that was what it looked like. He took a step back and perched himself on the edge of the biobed behind Pola. As Kiwosk approached, Kohl turned towards the sound of the other man speaking.
He grinned. "Anything to help further the medical field." He took off his shirt and walked over to the same chair where he left his coat, draping the t-shirt over top his jacket before turning and walking back to the bio bed. He gave a wink with Pola. "Don't think that your assistant gets your out of me asking for another date...because it doesn't."
Moving across to Cyrus' side, Pola handled his state of undress much easier this time around then the last. She wasn't certain if it was because of their date....but something had changed. Placing her hand against his arm, partially it was to allow her to complete a scan with her tricorder but partly was also to satisfy an almost need to at least touch him.
He looked at Kohl. "So an Argelian, by the spry 'everything or nothing' attitude. I'd say that medical seems like an odd choice." He placed a ressuring hand on Pola's shoulder and squeezed softly. "But the doctor has proven me wrong on my assumptions on the medical field many times in my short stint here on the Galileo ."
Tilting his head to the left slightly, Kohl's smile faded and his expression went impassive. Kohl chuckled briefly and he asked, "In what field would you expect to find an Argelian?"
Cyrus shrugged. "Engineering I suppose, security definitely. I fought along some Argelians when I was with the marines, they pulled us out on more than one tight spot." He rolled his shoulder in an attempt to thwart the pain. "Don't get me wrong mister Kohl, I'm not trying to say that you aren't good at your job, I have nothing but respect for your people. You guys kick ass, proverbially and physically. " He chuckled, and leaned over to Pola. "So who's going to be fixing me up today?"
Having watched the interaction, Pola quickly removed her hand from Cyrus's arm as she grabbed the dermal regenerator before smiling. With the tension simmering in the room and her concern about Kohl's alcohol intake, the Doctor wished to handle this herself. "I will be doing it in this instance, perhaps next time around I can get Kohl to put what he observes into practise."
He grinned. "Sounds perfect to me." He gave Pola a wink and chuckled. "So when do you think you can get away from sickbay again?" He asked eager to when he could have Pola to himself once more.
Pola heard Cyrus' words but focused on Andreus at her side for the moment. Having shown the nurse how to properly configure the beam for the dermal regenerator, she brought up both the old and current scans and set them side by side on the monitor. "So Andreus, so you could keep an eye on the monitor, you can see the level of the scar tissue and the depths it as at at the moment. The purpose of this treatment is to both remove the scar tissue and also release the pressure being forced on the muscle underneath."
Nodding at Pola's words, Kohl's gaze drifted between the biofunction monitor to Cyrus himself. Once his gaze settled on the monitor, he nodded again, and said, "Got it."
Confident the Kohl would be able to follow what was happening, Pola took a moment before she lightly lay her hand on Cyrus' bare right shoulder and started to run the regenerator across his left shoulder and along his back. "Well...I guess given the shore leave I'm free all of the time, aside from the odd appointment. When would you think that you'd like to meet again?"
"Give me time to get off this biobed and I'm sure I would make you dinner." He tried not to chuckled so as to not throw off Pola's steady hand. He felt the warmth of her palm as it pressed gently on his right shoulder. He couldn't help but smile. " How does that sound?"
Allowing her eyes to flicker across to the chronometer in the monitor, she also took the opportunity to check the progress on the repair, her hand on Cyrus' shoulder squeezing slightly. "That sounds good actually..." Moving her sight back to his shoulder's she actually felt sad the treatment was nearing the end. "How do things look Andreus?"
While Pola was staring at Cyrus' tautly-muscled shoulder, Kohl leaned forward from his perch on the biobed to study them both. "It looks like you're making quick progress," Kohl said dryly, "with that Irish-magic of yours."
Cyrus stifled a laugh and ended up snorting loudly.
Blushing bright red, Pola threw a glare in Kohl's direction as her mind finally caught up with her and she recognised the words as ones Cyrus had used earlier. Looking across to her own monitor, she checked the progress herself, hoping to some sort of God that this situation didn't get any worse.
Cyrus sighed and let his Irish doctor heal his shoulder. "Don't be jealous Kohl, you get her to yourself all day."
Kohl pursed his lips, frowning slightly and staring at the back of Kiwosk's head. "Yeah," Kohl remarked, "But not like that."
"Have you met any of the new staff yet? Kiwosk asked, waiting for the procedure to finish up.
Moving her hand, Pola ran the regenerator over the area still warm from her touch. "Um...I have actually. I've met your boss and also our new chief of diplomacy. Today I finally met our new Chief of science. How about yourself? You've quite abit of ground to cover with our current crew."
"I bumped into Theron and the rest of the security crew....then there was Liyar, the vulcan diplomat that is greener than an academy recruit. Then there was Lieutenant Panne..."His voice hinted at contempt. "That was....a...surprise."
"What variety of surprise was that?" Kohl interjected in a softly curious timbre.
Cyrus didn't answer right away as he thought over his initial answer. "She...was my old professor." He said quietly. "I may not have been an ideal student..."
Switching off the regenerator as she finished, Pola placed her hand against the flat of Cyrus' back. Studying the readings on the monitor at her side, she had to admit that she was listening to the conversation with half an ear. "Sounds like quite a reunion so."
That inspired Kohl to ask, "Have you had a warm reunion?"
Cyrus gave Pola a wink and a soft hand squeeze, before letting go to look at Kohl. "She seemed..." He rolled a few words over his tongue before answering. "Surprised I was on a ship. I'm pretty sure she doesn't approve of my eating habits either." As he remembered the poor pancake that had suffered under her wrath.
"Other than accidently forgetting she was my biology professor and calling her a chemist...I think it went fairly well." He couldn't help but laugh at it all.
Reluctantly Pola stepped back, releasing her contact against Cyrus' skin. "So Andreus....think you can manage the Chief's last treatment within the next 1-2days?"
Cyrus didn't speak, but felt like he was being passed off. He would much rather the Lieutenant finish his shoulder as it gave him an excuse to see her, but he understood why. She was a busy woman with a busy schedule. He'd be lucky if he could even get to see her during the LOA.
"I am confident I can remove the last of his deep scar tissue," Kohl said, taking care to enunciate each of his words with precision. From where he was sitting on the biobed behind them, he started to sound mystified, when he said, "If that's what you're sure you want."
Nodding her head, Pola smiled across at Kohl. "I'll be here with you but you don't learn properly unless you try yourself."Looking back across at Cyrus, she instinctively placed her hand against his back again. "I apologise that I'm turning you into abit of a guinea pig."
Cyrus chuckled and shrugged. "I figured it would happen eventually with the amount of time I'll probably be in here seeing you..." His eyes widened and he attempted to save himself. "for the numerous...injuries...that...I will have while on missions and stuff." He folded his arms as manly as he could attempt. "You know..."
"And besides! I'll get to have some quality time with Andreus!" He gestured of to the young man.
Letting out a genuine laugh, Pola rubbed her hand against Cyrus's back before leaning down and pressing a kiss against the crown of his head. Realising her action, her cheeks grew a fiery red as she stepped back quickly, trying not to trip over. "Um...right...ok..."
Cyrus's eyes widened in surprise as he glanced at Kohl than Pola...than chuckled. "I'll keep that in mind for later Doctor." He said grinning.
Rubbing a hand across her hair, Pola could feel her cheeks flush redder as she heard a cough and shuffle behind her. Turning, she spotted Kohl raised eyebrow before he hi-tailed it out of sickbay before she could stop him. "Damn..."
Cyrus chuckled against and reached for his shirt. "Well I do believe a thanks is in order for the two of you. Steller job as always!" He rolled the shoulder, noting the pain was faint but still present. He gestured to the fleeing Kohl. "He do that often?"
Chewing the corner of her lip, Pola looked after the retreating Kohl. "No....He has had alot to drink today though so I guess he might just be be still reeling from that maybe?"
Kiwosk grunted. "I understand. I wouldn't really want to be working either if I was feeling under the weather, especially during leave." He looked at the Doctor and smiled. "Don't forget I still owe you that dinner. It's the least I can do for you fixing up my shoulder." He smiled warmly and leaned over to give her a peck on the cheek.
Closing her eyes as she felt the kiss against her skin, Pola smiled as she nodded her head. "We will get you in for your last treatment very soon, and you should have full motion back in your shoulder."
He grinned "I can't wait, its felt like forever since I've had a working shoulder. It means a lot Pola." He forced himself to take a step back. "I should let you get on with your day...I have a couple more things to do before the end of the day." He paused..."I'll see you soon though...right?"
Nodding her head, Pola placed her hands behind her back as she resisted the urge to touch him again, the thought of dinner between them both causing her mood to lift again. "Very soon..."
Yelling a silent victory in his head, he smiled and gave her a quick wave before making for the door. "I'll talk to you soon about dinner. I hope you like...uh...well..food!" He said, laughing. As the doors opened he turned the corner and made for his quarters, the biggest grin comfortably settled on his face.
