Mission: Episode 20 - Reconstruction
Location: USS Galileo-A - Deck 3, Mess Hall; Security Office/Brig
Timeline: MD 02, 1815 hrs

[ON]

Gathered around the same table in the mess hall the three new security department Petty Officers chatted as they waited; all having received instructions to gather there at this time before 'someone' would come and collect them. The room bustled with many new faces as several of the 28 new crew milled about the place.

"Are you sure all these people were on the Yuron with us Rachel?" Giles Wentz asked his fellow; but much older human companion.

"I recognise most of them." Rachel replied. "That's Cligoch" She pointed to a balding but impressively bearded Tellarite. "Spent almost the entire trip making an arboretum for the ship, and PO Fawa over there, you should remember him. He's the one who fixed your arm after you wouldn't tap out last time we sparred."

Giles looked across at the Bolian man, "Oh yeah, I still owe you a rematch for that one."

"It'll end z'he same way I don't doubt," Sova interjected with a hearty laugh, her deep lowland Andorian accent adding a strange richness to her tone.

"Six months on z'he Yuron and you never turned down a fight, Giles. Many points for effort but v'hinning is not your forte." She laughed again.

"She only beat me because I tripped on those weird mats they had in their gym." Giles protested, refusing to admit she'd bested him.

"Of course." Rachel said with a chuckle. "Blame the mats, not your youthful exuberance being bested by my experience."

"Ahh yes z'he mats," Sova said in a mocking tone, "z'hey were z'he true enemy all along. Best hope v'he do not encounter any in z'he Pleiades or z'he ship will be in grave danger."

Both Rachel and Giles laughed. "Very grave danger." Rachel said. "Seriously though, you need to keep that left arm closer to your body or you'll wind up on the floor every time."

The Mess Hall doors slid open and revealed a rather dashing figure. He took a moment to pause as he entered, coiffing his meticulously arranged blonde hair. His eyes danced around the room until it settled upon the security team.

He glided over.

"Hello, hello!" Lysander said with his usual exuberance and a winning smile, "You must be the new security officers. I am P-O 1st Class Octavio and I will be assisting in your induction aboard the Gal."

He gave them a gracious bow, "You have all truly lucked out with your posting here. Such adventures await." He laughed musically. "Follow me to the 'Security HQ' and we will do some proper introductions"

Giles chuckled at the over the top bow but stood up along with Rachel as Lysander introduced himself. "Petty Officers Zh'zynon, Ellison and Wentz." Giles indicated each of his companions then himself in turn.

"A pleasure," Lysander said with another smile. "Follow me."

Sova stood up immediately and briskly walked over to the shiny haired man. "You are all zmiles Octavio, is zis normal for z'hose aboard z'his ship?"

Lysander opened his mouth, but the question gave him pause. He had a fleeting vision of himself and a... medical officer was it? Sitting and enjoying... wine. He could almost taste it. Chateaux Picard!

Then it faded. "There are good times and bad times but we all try to smile officer." He chirped in response, banishing the scene. "Come along!"

Security Office/Brig

With Saelihn busy on other matters Amanda sat in the chiefs office reading from a Padd, right now Lysander should be meeting with the newly arrived security crew and be bringing them to see her and she was quickly familiarising herself with them, their previous postings and their skill sets.

After a few moments Lysander burst in with his usual theatricality, a wide grin and a sweeping hand gesture. "Our team is now complete!"

The three petty officers filed in behind him.

"V'at an interesting v'hessel v'is is." Sova said dryly to no one in particular, looking a little bemused after a few minutes of Lysander's tales on the walk to the office.

Amanda looked up as the four petty officers passed through the doorway into the security center, having had enough time to read their files she easily deciphered who was who. Taking a deep breath she stepped out of the chiefs office. "Welcome on board Petty Officers, I'm Ensign Amanda Turell."

Saelihn had meant to have had a subspace call with her mother. She'd wanted to ask about certain things she'd experienced over the last few days and only someone of their species, an El Aurian, could answer them. "What's the use of having a connection to time and space when I can't even explain what my feelings mean?" she thought to herself as she made her way back to the security office.

Her mother had cancelled on her last minute. Some engineering emergency.

So rushing back into the security she somehow managed to miss the new faces and instantly look at Amanda. "I swear Amanda, the next time I try to call my mother. Stop me." she huffed. There was a pause as Amanda seemed to nod towards Saelihn but all she could do was frown as she cocked her head. "What?"

"And this..... is our boss Lieutenant Valenis." Amanda said most definitely not expecting the El-Aurian woman to return as she did.

Saelihn swung around to see the faces of those she had been looking over mere hours ago when she looked at their personnel files. She bowed slightly, as was her peoples custom, "Welcome to the Galileo." she said with a smile. "I hope Turell and Ocativio have been treating you well?" she asked somewhat rhetorically.

"Well enough Sir." Giles replied for the group though of course they had only just met Amanda and didn't want to comment about her just yet.

"Good." Saelihn nodded. "I've looked at your records. All 3 of you are seasoned security so I don't need to teach you how to act, how to do your job. I do ask that you work hard for me and I'll work hard for you. Anything you need I am here to speak to, they don't call my species Listeners for nothing." she joked. "And we generally always look after each other here, we're a small team so we can fall over each other at times here. Do any of you have any questions for me?" she asked.

"We've heard a lot of different things about this ship, getting into a lot of trouble for a small science ship. Brokering deals with Klingons, fighting off Ferengi pirates and even the Tholians, it all true?" Rachal asked

Amanda twitched, her body tensing slightly, not wanting to recall what happened with the Tholians.

"I like to think of them as adventures." Saelihn replied. "But this ship has had its share of a few bumps and bruises. However, the captain and crew have always came away in better shape. Whereas I wasn't here personally for them I know this to be a ship that looks after their own. What you call trouble may find this ship so it's not short of excitement. I'm just surprised they left out the Borg..." she joked a little at the end to dispel some of the seriousness that had been hanging over their meeting a touch.

Sova gave a long, hearty laugh, taking some time to recompose herself. "V'hery good, z'her, z'he Borg..."

She shook her head to dispel the mirth, "V'he are already an excellent team. Six months on z'he journey here ha'ff molded us into qu'vite z'he dynamic tr-upple."

"Six months of beating the heck out of each other in the gymnasium." Giles added. "Ellison came out on the winning end of most of it."

Saelihn smiled, "Well that's good. I'm glad you all have became quite close. Always a bonus for team cohesion and morale." she commented with a small nod. "Unfortunately you won't spend the same amount of time together with the shift patterns here but you'll still bump into each other. Small ship and all." she gestured with both hands to imply the ship as she did so.

"We were expecting that. Though it will be interesting to see how we compare to the already established team." Rachal said.

"You never know, you might be able to teach us a thing or two." Amanda told them.

"I don't doubt it ens-heign," Sova said while continuing to grin, "Officer Wentz is v'herry skilled at landing on z'he mat wit-hout getting too bruised." She laughed again.

"Never too old to teach us any new tricks." Saelihn answered bringing it back around. "I think anyone who thinks they know everything often ends up with their body bruised." she smiled. "Not that I'm implying you think you know everything Wentz."

"We all have our fair share of bruises," Giles replied. "such is the life of a security officer."

"Too true Officer Wentz!" Lysander chimed in, grinning as ever, "I was once battered blue after a small but very significant disagreement with a Ferengi financier and a Bolian banker. Still came out on top of course," he made a gesture as if he was brushing dust off his uniform before continuing knowingly, "But, well, if bruises could scar..."

"Bruises, burns, slashes and stab wounds, we get them all." Amanda said, her own collection was extensive. "Most of them with a good story behind them."

"I look forward to swapping stories with you Sir." Rachel smiled at Amanda.

The CSEC's commbadge chirped followed by short verbal exchange over the private channel. "Valenis here...yes...understood. On my way." The copper blond-haired El-Aurian quickly gathered a nearby PADD then excused herself from the gathering of security officers. "I'll have to catch up on some of those stories with you at another time. I'll leave the rest of you in Ensign Turell's capable hands for now."

Lysander turned to Turell as Valenis left, his trademark smile plastered over his lips, "Right, sir, shall we get these newbies properly oriented? Perhaps we can take them on a tour of the security routines, show off the torpedoes and all that."

Amanda smiled. "Sure, lets show them the ship then we can see about settling them in to our routine and decide what shifts to assign you all to."
