Mission: Episode 12 - Recluse
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 3 - Sickbay
Timeline: MD -4 0800 hours

[ON]
Rahl walked into his office with his coffee and sat down at his desk. He punched up the day's schedule and stared at it. He gave the schedule a look that one might give a hated enemy. He was to report to the med bay for his medical exam.

So say he didn't care for medical exams was an understatement. He rarely ever saw a doctor unless he absolutely could not work with whatever was going on. Not that it was painful just most doctors didn't believe what he told them til they took an in-depth look at his medical records.

Grumbling to himself he stood up. The sooner he got this over with the better. He took his coffee with him, however. His one small rebellion. If he was going he wasn't going to leave it.

He walked down the hallways towards the med bay. He tried to put something other than a frown on when he entered the med bay. Looking around he spied one of the doctors and walked over. "Good morning, Lt JG Rahl Tyton reporting for medical examination.

Allyndra had just finished getting off the bridge and now it was time to start the next duty shift. As the Admiral had remarked, double duty did not leave one much of life, but then again she had very little life outside the sickbay and the lab.

The pile of PaDDs with medical updates lay on the desk and she reluctantly sat down to start wading through them. She looked up at the monitor getting ready to start the day but paused looking at it. "Do I look ugly?" she asked herself. There was not a line, a crease, a wrinkle anywhere on the face but perhaps that did not matter. Perhaps, some odd subtle pheromone or something else warned others to steer away. She was still looking at her reflection when the doors opened with their noise and a voice announced that a Lieutenant Tyton was there." She picked a PaDD up and brought up the name and looked at it briefly.

"Come on in for a moment," Allyndra called out. She looked out the window at the man standing there and smiled. "You might as well finish your drink in here and it makes for messy biobeds."

He walked into the office and was taken slightly aback. The voice belonged to a rather pleasant looking female. He had figured the doctor would be much like those he had to endure in the refugee camps. He smiled slightly and nodded to her.

"Good morning" He looked to his coffee then back to her as he sat down. "I must apologize. I'm afraid the coffee was an act of rebellion. I rather dislike medical exams. Nothing personally against you good doctor. However, growing up as a refugee I cannot tell you how many 'exams' I went through as my family went from one place to another. It has put a rather bad tasted in my mouth about the whole thing."

He took a drink of his coffee before setting it down on the desk. He held his hand out to her. "Perhaps we can start this over again? Good morning I am lieutenant Rahl Tyton here for my medical exam." His smile faltered a little when he said exam but he tried to disregard it.

Allyndra took the hand briefly and nodded her head. "Commander Allyndra illm Warraquim. However, here in this place," she waved her had to encompass the room and more. "I just prefer Allyndra. Warraquim is my Guild House name not a surname though many use it as such. As for rank, well when you find that I use it, it is time to pay very close attention. Anyway if I might can I call you Rahl?"

Chuckling Rahl nodded. "Please do. I find that standing on ceremony and protocol can get taxing after a time. It is a pleasure to meet you Allyndra"

He looked around the office for a moment. "So how much poking and prodding should I expect with this exam? Every time I have one of these it seems the doctors have come up with some new test or another that I just absolutely have to take."

Allyndra cocked her head, "Hopefully not very much unless there is something that has occurred recently. Otherwise all we need is a baseline scan and a DNA sample." She waved a long fingered had toward the sickbay just outside the office. "Normally I would just say let me know if anything is
amiss, do you have any questions about the ship, or even me." She made that musical chuckle. "Very few Akkadians are ever off planet."

Rahl chuckled and shook his head. "Nothing recent, though when most doctors read my file they challenge the fact I'm a science officer with my history." He looked around again.

"As far as questions. Well I try not to pry into the lives of people I just met. Considering I am the new chief research officer, I have a feeling I will be seeing a bit of this place and you. Not that I mind seeing such a lovely doctor. Perhaps it will make me rethink my habit of not coming to sick bay if this is the sight that will greet me when I do."

Allyndra took the compliment easily. She made a nod. "Well of course you are welcome to spend time in the lab here as well. I had a few projects going but they have stalled lately. You might be interested in the DNA scissors replacing molecules in the formation of Borg nanites. It seemed to work but only if given early enough. I have not perfected the process. Then there is the work I have been doing trying to transfer the genes that Akkadians have for repair to other species. Again," she shrugged, "without full success."

Rahl raised an eyebrow with the mention of the borg. Though her other experiment could have a massive impact as well. However his first priority as it ever would be was the complete and total annihilation of the borg by whatever means necessary.

"These DNA scissors you mention. Could they perhaps be used on the borg themselves? To make the nanites inside them believe they were not borg and take them apart from the inside out?"

His thoughts started taking off. "That and perhaps a secondary function of disabling them long enough for us to retreive there data cores before they can self destruct or one of the other borg is able to take it back with them. Then the nanites can go about systematically taking them apart to where there is nothing left but a defunct cybernetic husk..."

He shook his head bringing himself back to the present. "Indeed, I would be most interested in helping in your research. However first thing is first. I believe a full medical scan is what you were saying? Do I need to disrobe for such a scan?"

"First let me answer your question earlier. Yes, the scissors interfere with the assembly of the nanites substituting on the molecular level say a copper atom where a magnesium atom was called for. Thus it would affect Borg if the scissors worked well enough and were not eliminated quickly. As to the second yes a full scan. As to the thrid, no need unless you feel that would help." Allyndra said the later flat as though she figured it was like a Vulcan not wanting to touch, some cultural thing.

Rahl nodded. "Indeed I believe your experiments could have a resounding impact. Mind you I know no medical doctor wants to have their invention used for harm. However, with the borg, if we can get your experiment into a fully working format. The lives that could be saved by using something like that possibly from range. Would be enormous. I will be happy to work with you on them."

Rahl shrugged hearing what she said about the exam. He stepped out into the med lab and proceeded to take off his uniform. He knew that there were things that could throw off scans. He doubted the uniform or comm badge would do so. However, he didn't want to have to come back for another exam without reason. Besides this would allow the doctor to visibly see and note the scars instead of relying solely on a computer scan. He laid his uniform on one of the beds and turned around looking at the doctor. "Where do you need me to stand? Or do I need to be up on one of the beds?"

"The bed if you please. It is so much easier." Allyndra noted the scars but did not yet comment on them. She waited and then got things started. "Without me looking through your complete history care to tell me why so much scarring? I see few since medically most could have been removed or dealt with properly."

Rahl chuckled. "That would depend on which part of my life they were from. My homeworld was destroyed by the borg. Some are from that. I spent many years as a refugee after that. Going from one planet to the next. A few are from that. I was at Wolf 359, the first and second battle of Deep Space Nine as well as active in the Dominion War. The rest are from those battles and engagements. As to why they are scars instead of being removed. You would have to ask the doctors that treated me. I do not know their thoughts or reasonings for it."

"Ah well, then most likely from you describe it is the matter of necessity. Patch and dispatch as some in emergency medicine like to call it. I might be able to do some things if you wish, but some not a lot that I can do. It is your choice of course."

He shrugged. "I have lived with them for so long that it would seem strange if they were no longer there. It's not as if I'm trying to win a beauty contest or that there are women beating down the door." He chuckled softly. "No I believe the scars should stay. They are a reminder as to why I live this life and keep me humble to know that even with my long years I am still just ast mortal as everyone else."

Allyndra made a nod of the head. "Very well, as you wish. You are not alone in that respect at least. For me, I cannot carry scars though if I did there would a fair amount. Now let's get started." She began the scan looking at the readings between the bed's and the readings on the PaDD.

He tried to stay still and remain as relaxed as possible. It wasn't easy. He tried not to dwell on where he was. He instead turned his attention back to the doctor. "So doctor have you been in the field for very long?" He also noticed the intent look she had. "I trust there are no new developments in my physiology that I should be aware of?"

"No everything seems to agree with the last scan in your record within nominal parameters. As to your question, sufficient I suppose but compared to an El Aurian life span it would be brief." She patted his arm for a moment.
"Relax, I do not bite often." She made a small musical laugh at that. It was something of an inside joke.

He raised an eyebrow as he looked to Allyndra. "Well that's to bad. Some might enjoy that experience. Perhaps a bit more depending on the circumstances." He laid his head back and would let her continue with her scans and make whatever she would of his remarks. He was already without clothing. If that didn't prove he had no shame then the doctor was probably in for quite a shock.

Allyndra was a bit curious about the comment. While it was mentioned in the physiology books she wrote, unless it was a very long time ago there had not been any Akkadians off planet. A brief encounter with a failed colony and the Orions was all she could think of.

"Oh? And what do you know the Blood Kiss?" she asked while getting scans.

Rahl raised an eyebrow looking back over to Allyndra. "I'm afraid I don't know anything about this blood kiss you speak of. However in some cultures I have observed biting is at times used as a means of foreplay. Others it is used as a sign of dominance or animalistic desire during sexual activities. Then for a smaller group there are those that enjoy a bit of pain along with there pleasure. They believe that the one heightens the sensations of the other."

Allyndra cocked her head listening to the explanation. "I see an educated guess," she replied nodding. "Very good one at that. Well, Akkadians are optional to obligate heamatophages." He was educated enough to know what that meant. "In our bite, in addition to the anti-coagulant and anesthetic properties, there is also a component that induces pleasure. We do that still during sexual activities though its orgional purpose was to ensure enough protein for to carry the next generation. " She smiled with a bit of amusement. "In the old days in time of famine, it was tough to be a male."

Rahl chuckled slightly with her explanation. "My apologies doctor. I'm not chuckling at you. However, your description reminds me of the old vampire stories they told on Earth some time ago. It was a mythological creature that was said to have once been human but turned undead. They lived by feeding on the blood of living beings, preferably humans. Your description fits them almost right down to the letter. However, from how you describe it. I cannot say that I wouldn't be curious as to the sensations were I ever to have the chance to experience them."

"Trust me, I have heard about that over and over and several more as well. I may sometimes sleep in sickbay but still no coffin and a cape just cramps the wings." Allyndra said that with a more or less even tone but the look her face said she did not take it badly. "Perhaps sometime in the interest of science?" She briefly showed those sharp inner teeth.

He chuckled again as he relaxed on the bed. The doctor had a sense of humor. That was all to the good in his opinion. He had met several that didn't. He looked over at her and quirked an eyebrow. "Who said it had to be in the interest of science?" He winked at her before resting his head back on the bed. "Though of course, I wouldn't dream of doing anything before at least having dinner first."

Allyndra shook her head letting the metallic blue flashes catch the light as she did so. "Not much of a dinner. Do you prefer O, A, B, AB, G, H or I think there might be some vintage T from an Andorian someplace about. Of course I do some French cuisine but afraid I cannot eat most of it."

He shook his head with a chuckle. "Ah, so it's a drink first then a bite. Well, unfortunately, my palate consists of something a little more substantial than liquids. Though I'm sure something could be worked out. However, it also occurs to me that perhaps I should seek to get to know my fellow officers a bit better before I engage in this sort of thing. Though if you are perhaps interested we can set up a time to have a drink in the mess hall or perhaps somewhere a little quieter."

Allyndra made a sort of deep musical chuckle. It sort of resonated since the vibrations would go through the air sacs. "I think a drink in the lounge might be in order. Now then, just one final test....." She produced a small swab. "A DNA test, open wide please."

He raised an eyebrow. A DNA test..starfleet should already have his DNA on file. He shrugged to himself and opened his mouth. Her laugh had been pleasant to hear. He would have to find ways of being funny more often. He waited til she was done and close this mouth. He ran his tongue along the inside of his mouth wetting it again. He hated having dry mouth at any time.

She put the swab into a vial and then made a notation on a PaDD and nodded, "There you go Rahl, you are officially passed on you medical. I am off at 1600 hours."

He smiled and nodded. "Well it wasn't nearly as bad as I had feared it would be. Thank you for that. Off at sixteen hundred hours you say. Would you rather meet here and head to the lounge or just meet there?"

"I would prefer to meet there, well 1600 it is." Allyndra nodded.

He nodded again and made a slight bow to her. "Indeed, I look forward to it." He smiled at her before turning to head out of the med bay.

Allyndra nodded, "indeed."
