Mission: Episode 12 - Recluse
Location: USS Galileo, Deck 4, CRO's Office
Timeline: MD 01 - 14:00 Hrs

Luke strolled into the science labs looking for someone in particular since he was making sure that nothing will go wrong with the upcoming search and rescue mission he wanted to grab the opinions of someone less likely to give into the pressures of being sat up on a big table with big wigs clashing their horns on how things should be done and why. Spying his target he walked over and introduced himself. "Chief, I'm Luke Wyatt chief of Strategic operation I don't think I've had the pleasure of talking to you before"

Rahl was standing in front of a small containment area. He was running an experiment using multiphasic arrays. He knew what the outcome should be as it was the same research that he had performed on the Princeton when they were trying to get close to the nebula.

He nodded to himself satisfied with the outcome. The experiment ended in the expected parameters. He did this to make sure that the equipment in the research area didn't need recalibrating. Which would have taken the better part of a week.

Hearing a voice he turned around. Seeing the man he nodded to him. His eyes caught the rank insignia. "Good day Lieutenant Wyatt. No, I'm afraid we haven't. I haven't been on the ship long and I've been busy seeing that my department is in working order. It is a pleasure to meet you, however." He held out his hand to the man in greeting.

"However, I assume this is more than merely a social call. Otherwise, this discussion would be happening in the mess or officer's club. What can I do for you, Lieutenant?"

Putting out his hand he took the other mans and shook it firmly, "It seems not much gets past you" he rested his hands back down by his side "I know briefings can be a little hectic and sometimes people don't get what they have to say, you have a lon background and I wanted to run a few things by you and ask what ideas you have without everything butting heads"

Raising an eyebrow Rahl nodded as he let go of the man's hand. "Indeed, there are times in which things are cut short for the sake of brevity and sanity. It is also simply a matter of knowing when the words will fall upon deaf ears. However, since you have come to seek me out I am going to assume the topic is of an experimental nature. Or one not covered by the rest of the Science Department."

He waved Luke over to a couple of chairs. "At least let us be comfortable while we speak. So tell me of these ideas. I will do my best to answer them."

Luke followed and sat down "We don't know what we're going to be getting into over there, and I for one have had my fair share of surprises. To many infact and sometimes I feel we don't take the lengths we need to. As someone of discovery and research I was wondering if you had any ideas other than attaching some GPS scanners onto the ship and being extra careful. In other ways I just want some real scientific help"

Rahl nodded. "I have gone over some of the information since the briefing. For a nebula like that, there are a couple of things we can try. Granted I cannot guarantee that they will work at a hundred percent, but it's better than what we have now. For navigating through the nebula..our sensors are going to be seriously hampered by all the activity going on. We could modify the arrays to emit a gravitonic pulse. It would act much like radar did back in the 21st century on earth. It is not the most exact readings but it should allow us some long-range detection capabilities."

He took a breath and let it out slowly. "The second thing we can do. I know on some ships multiphasic shields these days come standard. However, most if not all of those are warships. When I was on the USS Princeton I modified the shields to be able to enter a nebula and get nearly to the center of it to gather readings. If allowed I could modify the shields on the ship for such a purpose. It also might help filter out some of the interference that will be had with the sensors."

He shook his head. "However, if we find the ship that won't help us much. The ship itself will have been under severe stress inside the nebula. If it's systems are intact then things should be relatively simple as life support and the ship's hull structure should be fine. However, if the systems are offline. Then we have a much bigger problem. We will have to find a way to stabilize the ship. The most logical way would be to extend the Galileo's shields around the other ship if possible. Once that is done engineers will have to transport over with the away team to set up portable stabilizers. It's a temporary fix but it should allow enough time to gather information and get off the ship safely. As well as rescue any crew that might still be alive on the ship. After that, we can lock onto the ship with a tractor beam and pull it out along behind us. We'll have to be careful, though. Under this much stress, there is a very high probability that the ship could break apart trying to pull it out."

Luke nodded along "If only we could get a better read from this distance away from the nebula, we'd be more prepared. I really hate going in blind" He admitted. "I'll take all your advisement with me, Depending on how the away teams are split up I may ask you to come along if there something that caused the ship to be in the state it is in which appears a little off the scale of normal I'd like to have your forward thinking with us."

Rahl raised an eyebrow again. "Well we could. It won't give you pin point accuracy. We can modify two class nine probes to emit gravitonic pulses. Launch the probes on each side of the nebula. This will at least give us telemetry inside the nebula and show us possible locations of where the ship might be in the nebula."

"It sounds like a very vesable plan, Id like you to lead a small team its always good to have a back up plan in case the first falls through which it usually does in these kind of scenarios. Let me know if you need anything and I'll acquire the resources and man power for you" He said with a smile.

Rahl nodded. "I can have the probes modified and ready to go in the next couple of hours. Just a matter of setting in the specific modules into the probes. I can set them for either warp 8 or warp 9 depending on how soon we want them there to start feeding us information before we get there."

He thought for a moment. "As to a team. I'd like to take a couple of science officers and at least one engineer though preferably two. Both of whom should have knowledge and familiarity with structural integrity fields, power systems, and life support systems. This way we would have the best chance to stabilize the ship if we have to."

"Perfect, for now work with one engineer if it's seriously hindering your ability to accomplish the task on time the. Brig it up with the chief but I'm sure she won't mind sparing a bod" he said "I won't keep you from your work any longer, but good work and update me when you have the time"

Rahl nodded and offered his hand to Luke. "Indeed, that I will. I will head over to engineering as soon as I speak with the Lieutenant Braxton about the science officers I'll need. I'll keep you posted with our findings. I'll also get things ready for when we go over. I'll need to speak with the head of security about getting a phaser just in case."

Luke nodded, smiled and shook the mans hand "It's been an absolute pleasure, I'll check back later and see how things are going. Hopefully this will all go smoothly and well be on our way to the stargaze in a few days" with that he stood back "Have a good day chief" and he left.

Rahl nodded and watched the man leave. He let out a long breath. He didn't mind going out into the field. He just hadn't done so since the Dominion War. Not that that was all that long ago. He shrugged to himself and went back to his console. No matter what happened one thing always remained the same....paperwork.
