With a groan, Rahl sat up and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. Getting out of bed he slowly made his way towards the bathroom. Splashing water onto his face he looked in the mirror. His eyes were slightly bloodshot but that was due to the interrupted sleep than anything else.

Disrobing he stepped into the shower and just stood there as it worked for a couple of minutes. By looking at him one could never tell he was well over a century old. Most took him for an average human. That was a thought he did not dissuade unless he had reason to. El-Aurians were a long-lived people. Many were known to have lived some five hundred plus years.

Getting out of the shower he got dressed in a uniform. While technically not on duty, the uniform gave him a sense of grounding. Though it also reminded him of why he had the flashbacks in his dreams, to begin with.

He walked over to the small replicator in his quarters. He simply stared at it for a moment without even seeing it. His mind had started down the path of remembrance. He shook his head and looked back to the replicator. "Coffee, black, hot and a beignet." He'd developed a liking for cajun cuisine while he had been on Earth. The spices and flavors of it appealed to him. It was partly why he had spent so much time in that part of the world til he joined Starfleet.

Taking the items he sat down sitting them on the small table near the chairs. Taking the cup of coffee in his hands he sipped at it. He took a bite of the beignet as his mind began to wander again.

His life in Starfleet had almost seemed to be either a war or getting prepared for war up to this point. He graduated top of his class from the academy. On the Princeton, he had enjoyed his work. His research in multi-phasic arrays had even helped to be able to chart and study a newly forming but hostile nebula. However, that was to be the most peace he would have for a while.

In 2367 the Princeton was ordered to Wolf 359. There an armada of 40 ships stood against a single Borg cube and failed. He did what he could to aid in the defense of the Princeton. Even waiting until the last possible moment to help engineering keep the ship together for the rest of the crew to escape.

However, it was not to stop there. He was assigned to the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards to work on new ship designs and weapons to combat the Borg threat. He joined the team that worked on the Defiant class and stayed at the yards til the Defiant was shipped to DS9 with him on it.

At DS9 he thought things might slow down. He was completely wrong. First came the Klingons trying to force the overturning of the Cardassian Detapa Council members that were on the station. Not long after that incident came a second battle. This time with the Dominion. They were forced to leave DS9 and Rahl stayed on the Defiant. He stayed on the Defiant minus a few months of recovery time til the end of the Dominion war. The scars on his body and his medical records looked more like a veteran Marine than a science officer.

After the war was over and the repairs were well under way back at DS9 Rahl had begun to grow bored. DS9 was not a research base or even a shipyard where new designs and other things could be developed. It was more a place of commerce and presence of the UFP in Bajoran space. Even his personal research was stunted due to the lack of availability of resources and materials. He had searched for any possible postings on research stations or science vessels where he could use his skills. Between his experience, knowledge, and awards surely he would be able to find something. He found the open position on the Galileo. He applied for and was approved for transfer. That is what found him currently sitting here in temporary quarters reliving his past.

He roughly an hour had passed. He had a wake-up call set already. He shook his head taking care of what was left of his coffee. The food had long since been eaten. He tugged the uniform off laying out over the back of one of the chairs to put back on when he got up. He slid back into bed and went back to sleep.
