Mission: Episode 10 - Symposium
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 3, Infirmary
Timeline: MD 24 - 0930

[ON]

Noah paused outside the Infirmary to take a deep and cleansing breath. There was no reason for nerves; he was simply tied up over the whole situation regarding Yasmin. He was fit for duty – had been cleared some months back, but had only recently found a berthing that suited his preference. Otherwise he would have been back in space and out of this mess.

Would it be considered abuse if he throttled the girl and shoved her onto the first transport headed back to Earth? But no … it wasn’t an option – he’d contacted his parents and they had confirmed what he already knew. His sister had put in for a legitimate Independent study course and been approved. Her mid-cycle exams would be waived until the Galileo returned to Sol region on its next shore leave, and in the meantime she would be his responsibility.

There was no doing for it, except to accept the inevitable. Pushing those thoughts aside, he sought a placidity beyond what he currently felt and stepped into the infirmary. A nurse greeted him – taking his information before directing Noah to the bay where his exam would take place. It was currently empty, giving him time to sit on the bed and collect his thoughts before the doctor arrived.

Checkins were always so routine. They were boring for the most part but it was part of the duty that was required. The nurse popped into the office and let Allyndra know. "Biobed one," she said. "Another one looking like the wild animals had to drag him in."

Allyndra got a PaDD and headed out. She approached the bed in the small sickbay wondering exactly why the nurse had put him on the most specialized one but perhaps just because it was the closest one.

"Hello, I am Allyndra illm Warraquim, the Chief Medical Officer, but please here just call me Allyndra. Now here for a check in Lieutenant?"

Glancing up, Noah had a bit of a double-take as he regarded the woman before him. In all honesty, he had never seen an Akaddian before, and found her interesting to say the least. All the same, he managed to smile and inclined his head. "Noah Khoroushi, Ma'am. I'm the new assistant Operations head." Whether she invited him to use her informal name or not, he wasn't QUITE ready to take such a casual route just yet. "And yes. Routine visit only."

Allyndra nodded. "Allyndra please. In my sickbay, my rules and I have dealt with enough formality for most my life it is actually a relief not to deal with it. May I call you Noah or do you prefer something else?"

Noah blinked, then offered a wry smile. "Allyndra, then. And Noah is perfectly acceptable."

"Very well Noah it is. Normally Fleet does not send out people with problems so I usually ask if there is anything unusual I should be aware of or something that has come up since your last check up." Allyndra said with a polite tone.

"Nothing unusual; well, not incredibly unusual. I've had more headaches lately, but I think that may have to do with more recent events.

"Recent events? Care to elaborate?" Allyndra asked.

"Ah ... family issues."

"I see..." Allyndra nodded. "Computer, set privacy screens on Biobed One please."

A moment or two a field shimmered in place that then went opaque.

"Would care to talk? Especially if it is affecting your health," Allyndra pulled up a stool.

Noah considered that, then slowly shook his head. "It's not something that won't pass. My ... younger sister managed to wheedle her way into joining me on the ship, going behind my back and not letting me know until we were on our way here. I don't mind her being here - in the least - but ..."

He frowned. It was true that he didn't mind. He liked Yasmin for all she was prone to trouble-making, albeit without intending to hurt. It was something else that was bothering him. "I just wish she'd given me a heads up so I could have at least had time to think about it.

"And the thinking about it after the fact is causing stress headaches," Allyndra did not really ask. "Well, I am a certified counselor but I do not have a formal spot on this ship. However, my advice is to realize that she is a person. The fact that she followed you may be a sign that she either needs you or respects you. Unless there is more that I am unaware of?"

She was right - it wasn't that simple. "I don't know. I know there's more to it, but I can't really put a name to it just now." His brow furrowed. "i'm probably just over-thinking the matter. I tend to do that from time to time." Noah offered a wry smile.

Allyndra made a note. She would refer him on to the Counselor. "Alright, make sure to bring it up with the Counselor. In the meantime I can prescribe some medication that should help."

He wasn't sure ... but Noah had to admit that perhaps if he didn't have the needling point of pain between his brows, then he might be able to sort out the issue with Yasmin a bit better. "Thank you, that would help." He relaxed a bit. "I suppose we should begin, then."

"Just lay back so I can get an initial scan and then all we need is to get a DNA sample and your should be done."

Allyndra started the scan. She was not surprised given what was already in the medical record. "I am most interested in the knee and ear," she said. "It appears that you have turned down further treatment." She looked at him briefly. "I cannot blame you, at this point minimal more progress could be made." In her mind though she thought, "This was another case of being able to transfer Akkadian regeneration over."

"What concerns me most is the inner ear damage. It says here bouts of vertigo and tinnitus. The former can be quite debilitating. How often do you have bouts and for how long?"

"Usually no more than a minute or two at most. Sometimes just a few seconds, even." Noah frowned. "I'm not sure about frequency. I kept a log the first few six months after the accident, but then got busy with things on the station and ... ah ... sort of got out of the habit. I suppose I could say no more than once or twice a week?"

A minute to two was one thing but once to twice a week was another prospect all together. "Noted, I am going to prescribe something for that as well. Also I would like you to come in for a recheck on that as well run a few tests. Maybe we can at least help with that a bit more if there is little we can do with the knee."

"Alright," Sitting up, Noah slid his legs off the side of the bed.

"Now then," Allyndra fetched a swab. "I just need to take a quick swab of the inside of your mouth and we are done unless there is anything you would like to ask."

Submitting to the swab, he shook his head after she had finished and capsuled the sample. "That should be all, Ma ... Allyndra," he corrected, remembering belatedly she preferred to be addressed by name. It was going to be difficult to remember that.

"Alright, then you are medically officially checked in. Anything you need we are here to keep everyone functioning alright."

With a final thanks to the doctor, Noah slipped to the floor and prepared to leave. It was he stepped out of the bay that he saw her. Fully clothed this time, though the memory in itself was enough to bring a dusky hue to his face - thankfully not as noticeable as it would have been on a paler man. "Ah ... Good day, Doctor." He STILL couldn't place her name.

Tuula smiled at Noah through her dark, gothic, decidedly un-regulation makeup. "Hello, Mister Khoroushi," she said in a tone that was a little too excited for this early in the morning, "I take it everything is in working order?"

"Ah." He glanced back, but the CMO had already gone on her way, leaving Noah alone with the wheelchair bound woman. "As best as can be expected. And how are you," He caught sight of her name. "Dr. Voutilainen?"

"Very good," replied Tuula, pausing for a moment to chat. "That sauna works wonders for the body and mind. Shall we do it again sometime? Doctor's orders," she added with a wink.

A cold plunge would likely do him more good than anything just now; the very thought of being secluded with this woman in the heated privacy of the steam room again ... "Ah, I will consider that; in the meantime, I should be going. I ..." His brow furrowed, then he continued. "My sister is waiting for me to take her on a tour of the station."

"Okay," replied Tuula, pushing on her wheels to get to duty, "it's a small ship, so I'm sure I'll see you around!"
