Mission: Episode 10 - Symposium
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 1, Ready Room
Timeline: MD 22- 1825 Hours

[ON]

Lieutenant Junior Grade Kezmar Tsakti rubbed his eyes, trying to get rid of his tired, weary look as he stood outside of the Captain's Ready Room. While he had received plenty of sleep the night before, the rest rest of the day had been a major pain. Checking in his belongings, waiting for a set of quarters to be decided on, getting a feel for the ship, the normal headache Kezmar got from interacting with too many people in a small period of time had set in. But now there was only one thing left on the checklist for the day: checking in with the CO. Trying and failing to hide the exasperated scowl plastered on his face, the tall, lanky Selay hit the door chime to Holliday's office, ready to get it over with.

"Come!" Holliday called back, thinking that for once he might have been able to have the evening to himself to clear out the pile of requisition orders that his scientific officers had passed across his desk. It seemed that the symposium was good for one thing at least - stirring up an academic fervour amongst his researchers that now meant they needed half of the analytical equipment in the fleet transferring to the Galileo.

As the door slid open, Kezmar reluctantly stepped inside, hunching forward a few inches to avoid hitting his head in the doorway. The displeasure on his expression was a bit more subdued, though a good face reader might be able to notice. His diamond pupiled bright yellow eyes peered down at the red uniformed human sitting in front of him, giving off an almost judging vibe. Slowly raising a hand up to his forehead, right in front of his vestigial hood, Kezmar hissed "Lieutenant Junior Grade Kezzmar Tsssakti, reporting for duty, ssssir."

Jonathan looked quizzical for a moment, having never before this moment encountered a Selay in active Starfleet service, before realising that he probably had said quizzical expression plastered across his face, and quickly regaining his composure.

"Lieutenant welcome aboard. I believe you are joining our research division are you not? Feel free to take a seat."

Not particularly skilled at reading people, Holliday's surprised expression went right over Kezmar's head. Trying to block out any thoughts about the captain, he'd reserve his judgement of the man until the conversation had forwarded a tad. Gracefully sitting down in a chair that was slightly too small for someone of his height, Kezmar replied "Yesssss, I am the new Asssistant Chief Research Offisssser."

"I must admit Lieutenant, you are the first of your species that I have served with. After so long in Starfleet it always amazes me how much capacity there is to still be surprised."

Holliday had of course read of the Selay and their conflict with the Anticans, as was expected reading for any Starfleet cadet during their time at the Academy. Galactic politics were of course always shifting, but certain arguments were very difficult to find a solution to, this being one such debate that would probably outlast all others.

"How are you finding our little vessel this far?"

"Well, insssstead of Starfleet, mosst of our sspesssiess who wish to join the military join the Selayan planetary milisssia. Our planet is involved with other matterssss, at the moment." While pronouncing moment, Kezmar's forked tongue appeared for a single moment, before darting back into his mouth.

Frowning, Kezmar focused in on Holliday, flicking his tongue in and out passively. "It iss a very well equipped sship, thisss Galileo, but a very... Ssssmall one as well."

"She certainly isnt the largest in the fleet." Jonathan replied. The Nova class frame was never designed to be anything more than what she was - a research vessel that could, to an extent, look after herself if things got a little hairy.

"There is a certain degree of flexibility required - the crew here work in very close quarters with each other. I trust that won't be a problem Lieutenant?"

Kezmar shook his head, raising a hand dismissively. "Of course not, no issue at all." Resisting the urge to scowl, he continued "I'll take whatever space I'm given."

"Good to hear. Well, I suggest you make contact with our CRO, Lieutenant Idris. You're dismissed if there's nothing else." Holliday replied, content in the knowledge that he had now gotten the measure of the man who would be serving aboard his ship.

Kezmar nodded, standing up from his chair with a sigh of relief. That had gone okay, he supposed, and hadn't eaten up too much of his time. "Yes sir, that will be all," replied the lanky Selay as he turned towards the door, making a hasty exit.
