Mission: Episode 07 - Sojourn
Location: USS Galileo, Deck 5, Intelligence Office
Timeline: MD-18, 0900 hours

ON:

Having taken two days to more or less find himself again, Tyrion knew he had to meet with his boss sooner rather than later. Briefly, he wondered if she was going to throw him out of the department. And, fearing that she might, he wondered what else he might do. This was all he'd ever done, and all he ever wanted to do or be. He had nothing else!

Dressed in a new intelligence uniform, wearing his new rank insignia, the young Betazoid approached the chief intelligence officer's office, and knocked on the door.

"Enter," Markos said, looking up from her work. She wore her hair up today, her eyes made up as usual...strict, but in the sort of way that was bordering on not quite suitable for work. She sat back when she saw Tyrion enter, tilting her head. "Well. Here we are then."

Feeling more nervous than he could remember ever having been, Tyrion shuffled inside and forced himself to straighten. Yet, his eyes remained cast down. "Yes ma'am," he murmured as he stepped up to the desk, one foot at the time. "I.." He hesitated, drawing in another breath. "Can we talk ma'am. Please?"

For a moment, Markos' eyes were old and hard. Then she seemed to take a breath and rolling her shoulder. "Sit down," she said, motioning to the chair. They did need to talk.

Tyrion sat, folding his hands in his lap. "I'm sorry," he started, completely out of the blue, his words just tumbling out. "For...for before. It was wrong, I should've gone about it differently." He swallowed a few times, scraping his throat as if it'd gone dry then and there. "I'm sorry."

She watched him closer, searching his face before taking a deeper breath. "Damn right you should," she said, bluntly. "I'll be honest, Faye. I don't want you in my department because I don't trust you. However, the Powers have decided to give you another chance. And I have to follow the rules. My trust can be regained by hard work. By doing your job. By being loyal to the Federation, Starfleet and all it stands for. Misstep, and I will have you off this ship."

Face going white at that threat, Tyrion could only nod. "I understand," he whispered, "I don't want to leave ma'am. This is all I've got, as much a home as I'll ever have. I'll do anything ma'am, anything you say, and I won't deviate from the task given."

"Good," Markos said firmly, her eyes still cold. "Because now, information is need to know. I will let you know your progress as we go along."

Again, the Betazoid nodded. "Yes ma'am," he answered, "permission to speak freely ma'am?"

Markos watched him closely before nodding, giving no verbal permission. She was curious to see what he had to say. For so many different reasons.

"I should've gone about it all differently," Tyrion confessed, "but I'm glad it all got out now. I'm relieved, that I know who killed him even if it was me. That's the part I don't understand, I don't know why I did and it's possible I never will." He took another deep breath. "I promise I'll try and not to let you down again," he continued, "and I'll make an effort to keep off-duty affairs where they belong."

"Good," she said before shaking her head, with a frown. "Because I thought that at best you were a murder suspect and at worst a spy. I need to trust my people 100%. You, I can't trust. Not now. Maybe not ever. But clearly the Captain wants you to have another shot which is why you are still here." And it was clear that angered Markos more than she could hide.

"I'll work on that, I'm no spy ma'am." He paused. "I'm no murderer either ma'am, sickbay has proven that part. I think they sent you the report." He abruptly fell silent when he realised it sounded as if he were telling her how to think. "I'm sorry," he said again, there was little else at this point he could say. "That was all ma'am, I know I can't convince you and that I'll have to work for it. And I will, I'll work very hard."

Amynta watched him for a long moment before nodding weakly. "It'll all what we have to deal with," she said quietly. Even if in truth, she saw him as little more than a broken toy at this point. Starfleet might change that later and she had to give him that chance.

"Thank you..." Tyrion took a step back. "Am I still on gamma shift?" Would she let him back on duty, so soon?

"Yes," she said before frowning. "According to the Captain, you are. So you better go and get some rest then, Faye. Before your shift."

"Yes ma'am." He gave her a final nod, then just walked out of the office.
