Mission: Episode 07 - Sojourn
Location: Starbase, Main Concourse
Timeline: MD 38: 1600

ON:

[Starbase]

Eva made her way up to a quiet spot overlooking the main concourse on the Starbase. Like most stardock class bases, the Main concourse overlooked what could best be described as an arboretum on steroids. And like all of them, a quiet place could be found to hide and contemplate life.

This was where she found herself standing, on a small observation deck about 2/3 of the way up the main cylinder that punched it's way from the top to bottom of the base. The view from up here was beautiful and, most importantly, quiet. Perfect for the conversation she was about to have with her boss

Having spent the better portion of the past month bouncing between office and various parties, Asahi found this meeting to be refreshing. With Australian sheepdog trotting behind him and apple in hand, the tiny engineer soon found himself searching about the main concourse. It didn't take him long to spot his propulsion specialist. On his way over, he smiled and waved at her. "Interesting place to meet, Eva."

Eva looked up from her spot at the rail when she heard quiet footfalls approaching. Smiling nervously at Asahi, she turned from the rail. "Thank you Sir. I didn't want to talk in the office as I needed some space to breath."

Asahi joined her at the rail, leaning his back against it casually. "... You know, the office does get pretty stuffy. Maybe I'll take a look at the temperature control when I get back, see if that needs an update... What's up? Sokolov's not after installing a larger phaser bank, is he?"

"The temperatures are fine, and Sokolov's not messing with the phasers." Eva paused. "I'm not sure how to best to say this Sir so I'll just say it. I'm eight or nine weeks pregnant."

"Oh good, because I didn't want to have to threaten to hang him in a brig cell from his toes-wait." The rest of Eva's statement caught up with Asahi. "....... Pregnant? You mean, with kids, right? Not like... energy monsters or ... tribbles, or weird Borg hybrid babies or... anything like that, right? Children? Like... human kiddies?"

Eva chuckled "Simple inter-species procreation. As straightforward as you can get Sir."

"I..." The long, awkward pause that followed on Asahi's part lasted longer than he would have liked to admit. "... Oh... I... well, congratulations!" Followed by another pause, and an equally as awkward, "... I guess I should be rearranging some duties for when we're all back on duty, huh?"

"We've got a while before that becomes a concern Sir. For now, just some understanding if I'm under the weather. Been given shots for the nausea but it's still pretty bad."

"Of course, of course!" Asahi set the apple down on the railing. "So long as gunk doesn't end up in anything vital, you'll have all the understanding you need." He paused, staring at the apple he had just set down, before picking it up again. "..... So... who's the lucky-Lucky?... Is that the right word for this?.... Who's the dad?"

Eva chuckled under her breath. This obviously wasn't Asahi's strong suit in the leadership department. "The father is Lt Mercy in medical, and before you ask, no it wasn't planned. It just kinda happened."

"... Lt. Mercy?" The name sounded familiar. Squinting, the engineer attempted to place a face to the name. "... Vulcan, right? I think he was my attending doctor post cave-adventure... Is... this isn't... I shouldn't be asking anymore questions, really...." Trailing off, he chuckled. "But, I'm happy for ya."

"Part Vulcan, and yes, he's one's of the ship's doctors." Eva paused. "Exactly how and why this came about is between myself and Lt Mercy sir. All I will say is that this wasn't planned."

"Huh... Well, congrats-I said that, right?" Asahi mentally cursed himself out. "I'm sorry, I'm not used to this sort of news. I guess I should be keeping my yap shut, huh?"

"It's okay Sir. I wasn't exactly expecting the news either. " She grinned. "Just until I've had a chance to announce it. Probably a few more weeks once the baby's reached a couple of developmental milestones."

Asahi nodded, continuing the process the information. He had a more jovial, less-professional response in his head, but decided against it. Already, he felt he broke a boundary or two. "Keep me posted, in case something changes and you need rest time, or anything like that."

"I will do. And thank you sir. I'll do my best not to let this interfere with my job."
