ON:

The fight had broken out over something relatively minor. Food. More the quality than the quantity. With it came the accusations. With it came the fists. And Reyn found himself in it, ducking the blow of a Cardassian, kicking out with his leg. He hadn't meant to fight, he had been pulled into it because he was human. When he had tried to leave he had been stopped and gotten a fist in his face. Charming. He was still tasting the blood from it, his lip split.

"Enough!" Taurus' voice bellowed across the room as he strode through, stick in his hand. Instead of using it to send a shock, the Cardassian supervisor cracked it across the back of the head of a man who was still trying to swing out. "I said enough!"

Reyn stopped, breathing hard. All he got for stopping was that the Cardassian he had been fighting saw his chance and swung at him. Reyn managed to move back a bit, but instead of hitting his face the strong fist hit his head. The blow sent Reyn down to the floor, sparks flying behind his eyes as he breathed hard, trying to push himself up.

Taurus stepped between them, swinging the stick hard up at the Cardassian fighting Reyn before kicking him down to the ground. He shoved his boot on his face to keep it on the ground, pressing weight on it. "The next person that moves in this room will be out on the surface for a week!"

"Yes Sir!" the Cardassian groaned, pushing himself to try and get the boot off him.

"I told you not to move! You are still moving!" Taurus pressed back down with his foot, breathing hard as his stick was held out, ready to fend off an attack if necessary.

The Cardassian stilled, holding his breath as he waited...everyone in the room was silent and still. Well. Almost all silent. Reyn was opening his eyes slowly, groaning at the pounding in his head before spitting out blood.

Taking a steadying breath, Taurus took a step back. He reached down, helping the Cardassian up to stand, gripping his shoulder. "We are not animals," he said firmly, looking around the room. The hornet's nest had been well and truly stirred in the mining colony, and now things were starting to fall apart. "Any of us. Do not make me treat you like it," he called out, for all to hear. He moved to help Reyn, touching his jaw. "Can you see me?"

He opened his eyes, or tried to, a soft groan escaping him. He blinked, frowning as he tried to focus his eyes. He looked at Taurus but it took a few long moments before he came a bit more in focus, and longer until he recognised him. "Mm...y...yes..."

"Not a good answer," he frowned, getting his arms under him and lifting him quickly, carrying him in his arms, as if little more than a rag doll, to get to his office.

Reyn closed his eyes again, trying to straighten out the knot that was his brain. His vision was blurry, his ears rang...concussion, he suspected. It had been a hard blow. His tongue felt his teeth but he didn't find them loosened by the blow.

"Just relax," Taurus said firmly, putting him into his large, supportive chair. He moved for the medkit, pulling out a medical scanner to look him over. "No wonder you feel like shit...."

Reyn chuckled at that, nodding weakly before grimacing with it. He opened his eyes, making them focus on the Cardassian. He watched the vertical neck ridges and the tear-shaped ridge. Without thinking about it, he found himself reaching out, touching the tear shape.

Taurus let out a soft breath at the touch to the sensitive ridges. "You will be well," he assured firmly, so he knew it was true. He pressed a spray to his neck. "For your concussion."

"Thank you..." he said quietly, knowing better than to whisper. He swallowed as he met his eyes, searching them before he lowered the hand slowly. "Where...where am I?"

Taurus frowned with concern, holding his eyes. "My office. I brought you here after the fight."

"I am sitting in your chair," he said and smiled weakly. "Knew it felt oddly comfortable." He took a deeper breath and pushed himself up a bit, touching his own jaw with a grimace. His head was clearing up.

"The medicine is working?" he asked with concern, lifting a finger to try and see if he could follow it with his gaze.

"It is..." he said as he watched it, although he knew it was slow. He smiled as he reached out and touched the finger instead.

A small smile came to Taurus at that, and he couldn't resist pressing his palm to his, a gesture of affection for Cardassians. "Life would not be worth living here without a worthy foe."

Reyn watched him with surprise, taking a breath as he pressed the palm firmly against Taurus', a small smile coming to him. "I...am honoured that you consider me such, with our differences in position."

"You are superior in many ways. In mind and spirit," he said on a soft but rough voice.

Reyn met his eyes before he nodded gently, taking Taurus' hand to hold. "You are special."

Taurus watched with surprise, shaking his head. "I never thought to hear a human say that."

"It is no more unlikely than a Cardassian calling a human a worthy adversary," he smiled, arching an eyebrow as he leant closer, searching his eyes.

Taurus' heart quickened at the closeness and he leant in closer to him, taking his scent. "You fascinate me."

"Do I?" he asked softly, his hand going to stroke his neck, caressing...watching with awe at the rough lines of the skin there.

Taurus leant to it, breathing hard at how sensitive the cording was. He lifted his hand, dragging the nail of his thumb down Reyn's jaw. "You are many things in one."

Reyn smiled as he leant into the touch, swallowing as he watched Taurus. "As are you. I sometimes...see things in you. I see more than just the strong leader you are. I see...so many emotions. Different ones most wouldn't expect to see in a Cardassian. But that is the biggest lie, isn't it? Because you feel as much as any other species. Family. Duty. Work. Self worth...Honour."

He held his eyes for a long moment, with struggle, his breath escaping in a tired stream. "We care about the same things as you. We just protect them in different ways."

"In ways that worked for us," he said and leant close, kissing him on the lips as he stroked over his neck.

Taurus moaned against his lips, his eyes closing as he reached to clasp hold of his hair with a tight grip, as if to stop him from pulling away again. His lips parted to him and he kissed him back, taking clear pleasure in the taste of his lips.

Reyn moaned encouragingly, deepening the kiss as he reached to stroke over the Cardassian's dark hair, feeling it against his fingertips. He suspected he tasted of blood...his lip hurt in the kiss from his injuries but he didn't care. He was kissing Taurus. And that felt bloody amazing.
