=^=Transporter room to sickbay. Incoming severe abdominal trauma case.=^=
=^=Understood,=^= replied Tuula. Quickly, she threw the PADD that she had been reading onto the desk and headed towards the biobeds.
=^=Allyndra to sickbay. Doctor Voutilainen, you have surgery, biobed one. Call in Mott if he is able and anyone else. I will be there shortly.=^=
=^=Understood,=^= replied Tuula. "Computer, page Dr. Mott and any on-call nurses." She looked around the sickbay; it was empty except for her. I hate these things, she thought, but she had little choice. "Computer, activate EMH."
After a moment the holo-emitters fizzled into life and the familiar shape of the EMH formed in the centre of sickbay. After looking around for a moment his optical subroutines noted the presence of several new crewmembers of which he had not yet been made aware - obviously someone had once again forgotten to update it's personnel database at the last crew transfer.
"Please state the nature of the Medical Emergency." After a moment the EMH spotted the wheelchair bound female ahead of him and grabbed a medical tricorder, removing the probe before aiming to pass it over the damaged organic.
"Not me, you idiot! Her!" Tuula shouted, pointing at the patient materializing on the biobed. While the EMH went to perform scans, Tuula quickly prepared herself for surgery, throwing a smock over her head and putting on a mask.
"Hmph!" the EMH exclaimed as he ferreted the probe back into the rear of the tricorder. How could any of these organics expect his program to operate at peak efficiency if nobody had bothered to tell him which patient was which. Making the holographic equivalent of a mental note to speak to Engineering, the program moved towards the biobed.
"Status!" she shouted as she returned to the patient, parking herself next to her abdomen and putting on some gloves.
Never ceasing to be amazed by the incredible fragility of the organic form, the hologram deftly passed the probe over the patient before reporting his results. "Severe abdominal trauma, and massive internal bleeding. She's going into shock," replied the EMH, matter-of-factly.
"All right, lets get started. Help me get this suit off of her," said Tuula as she activated a laser scalpel. On the maximum setting, the powerful cutting beam could make short work of even a nanofiber EVA suit.
Abbey could hear the commotion going on around her, feeling could she bang to shiver and tried to focus her eye sight. "What's happening" she asked looking around more in one blurred motion.
Olsam Mott popped into Sickbay a very short while after being paged; there were certain perks to having one's quarters so near to one's workplace. It didn't take him long to note Abbey on the biobed with Dr. Voutilainen and the EMH next to her. He snagged a surgical gown out of the nearest medcart and made his way over, struggling slightly to fit his hefty frame inside the garment.
He roughly shoved the EMH aside to make room at the biobed and cast a glare in its direction for good measure. "You can probably turn that thing off." Real doctors are here, he left unspoken.
"This thing is more of a physician than you could ever hope to be as a limited organic Mr Mott" The EMH retorted as he was shoved sideways - his dislike for the Bolian had not reduced any time recently and this latest argument was likely to escalate further had there not been a patient.
"I have a better idea," replied Tuula, pulling out a tribble which had nested in an equipment cart. She turned to the EMH. "Doctor, can you please clear these damn tribbles out of our way?"
"Excuse me? I'm a doctor not a street sweeper!" The hologram was incensed that once again his truly brilliant work was going to be hampered by the redirection of his program to menial duties.
"I will be taking this up with the Captain!" it replied, before scurrying off with a collection of Tribbles nestled in it's photonic arms.
"Go ahead," replied Tuula, making a mental note to deactivate his program before he could complain to anyone. She turned back to Mott. "Just keep her from going into shock while I prepare to operate," said Tuula, unfurling the slashed EVA suit to reveal Abbey's injuries underneath. "We're going to need a transfusion, and some anasthetic. 20 cc's of Anetrizine should do, or Melanex if she's allergic."
"Hello, Abbey," Olsam said with incongruous cheerfulness. His head bobbed over her face as he took scans of the upper portions of her central nervous system, looking like an oversaturated blue balloon with impossibly white grinning teeth.
Abbey couldn't really see who was speaking, her vision faded in and out as black blood like dripping in stains appeared and disappeared at random. Her stomach hurt like a gnawing hunger. Letting out a shallow moan she attempted to touch the area of pain but found her arms lifeless.
"Abbey, I'm going to have to put you under. Start counting backwards from 100," said Tuula, hypo in hand. Showtime, she thought to herself, as she injected Abbey with a fast-acting anasthetic. As her patient dozed off, Tuula positioned herself next to Abbey's abdomen, put on a clean pair of gloves, and reached for her laser scalpel. Repairing this much internal damage wouldn't be easy...
=^=Allyndra to sickbay. Mott, Tuula? Anyone? I will not be able to be there. Can you give me a status update?=^=
Tuula put down her laser scalpel and tapped her comm badge. "I'm about to operate. No time to talk. Tuula out." Using one of her favourite medical tools - or at least, favourite medical tool invented after 1900 - a laser scalpel with built in imager, she went to work, making the initial incision into Abbey's abdomen.
Allyndra just nodded down in the transporter room. She then tapped back, =^=She's in good hands. May the Twins be with you.=^=
