Mission: Episode 06 - Legend of Souls
Location: USS Galileo: Deck 4 - Science Lab
Timeline: MD 06 - 0900

ON:

Allyndra was glad be out of the mines but things had bothered her there. The report of the Cardassian woman, the body of the crewman that should have been with another group. The recordings which made no sense bothered her and as an Akkadian with a problem it woke a part of her mind. Dreams about things had assailed her and finally she had resolved to talk to someone about her minds thinking. While normally she would urge anyone else to see a counselor this was a scientific problem that was troubling her. A problem as problematic as a tribble in replicator.

She made her way to the Science labs and office and rang the chime to Jacob Pendelton's door.

"Entre Vous" came Jacob's deep voice from behind the door.

As the door slid open Allyndra stepped in and said, "Hope I am not disturbing you but I find I need to talk to someone about things I have been thinking about on the oddness in the mines."

Jacob smiled at the exotically lovely Lt. Commander, "You could never bother me Allyndra," He got up and walked over the table near his desk and pulled out a chair for her. "Please sit down and let's talk. I suspect both of us need to get some things off their chest."

Allyndra made a small polite nod of the head and moved toward the offered seat. "Most definitely sir." She smiled at Jacob. "As for myself it concerns the mines and the oddness encountered. And you?"

Jacob nodded and walked over to the replicator, "Can I get you something?" As he produced his near freezing cold Orange Creme soda. "And please Allyndra, don't call me 'Sir', We are peers and friends and so 'Jacob' please." He looked at her and smiled, "And what has been going on in the mind and all we've gone through to this point, its has been haunting me..." He looked over at her to see if she'd give him a smirk or a giggle then added, "No pun intended of course."

"As I thought, you first or me?"

"But please.. ladies first." He added.

Allyndra nodded. "Well the readings in the mine were confusing for what I got and nothing to certainly explain things in the normal sense. The report on the Cardassian woman and then crewman Rutkah would appear to be almost transporter like. Unfortunately it got my mind to thinking."

Allyndra paused for a moment, for the thoughts that she was about to iterate were closely guarded secrets to the Fold Ships from her planet's past.

"No transporter is known, but what if something could manipulate the parts of space-time not normally perceived. As you no doubt know Kaluza-Klein physics indicates that there are extra dimensions then the ones we perceive in order for the universe to operate.

In some thinking this leads to a body of work of two-time physics. Here is how I tried to grasp the relation between 1 time-physics and 2 time-physics."

Allyndra used her hands as she talked, "Consider the many possible shadows of a 3 dimensional object projected from different perspectives on the surrounding walls of a 3-dimensional room. A flatlander, a 2-dimensional being, that can crawl and measure only on the surface of the walls would think that the shadows of different shapes are different "beasts" and move differently. Similarly, even though according to two time-physics a unique dynamical system in 4 spacial +2 time dimensions generates a large variety of one-time "shadows"', one time-physics presents these "shadows" in 3+1 dimensional space-times as different dynamical systems in terms of different Hamiltonians (different times). It would help explain why things happened and yet not register."

Jacob was floored. His jaw was agape as she spoke. "Allyndra!" He said with new excited energy, "This might be the breakthrough we've been waiting for!!" He quickly grabbed his PADD from the desk and began to do some very fast and furious calculations and note taking. "Multiple dimentional planes and space time continuum dynamics could be theoretically behind these occurrences!! HA! Come on, give me more, give more!!"

Allyndra felt more uncomfortable but the words tumbled out anyway. "WellIn a space-time with a second time-like dimension we can trade off "motion" in one time dimension against motion inthe second time dimension and return to the same moment. Now normally this would be really bad since it can lead to all sorts of paradoxes, but consider this. The causality problem arises due to assumption that motion in the second time dimension () is "regular", i.e. simply defined by initial
condition. This does not have to be the case. The dependence on could be chaotic in the sense that arbitrarily small changes in the initial conditions lead to exponentially growing deviations. Finding a closed time-like loop then becomes exponentially unlikely. So does visiting a specific event in the past."

She wanted to show something and asked for Pendelton's PaDD and jotted down an equation: Duv(k) = -iguv/k^2+ie

She then continued, after handing the PaDD back. Here, the (3+2)-dimensions the Feynman propagator has 2 modes with the wrong sign in the numerator (for gtt and g). One of these is eliminated by charge conservation / Gauss' law, but the second one due to g is a problem. This causes a scalar 'ghost' field such that certain casuality emerges intact on the macroscopic time scale but the ghost field then dissipates due to a rapidly decaying resonance."

"Thus, you then have something that appears to be a 'ghost' but only because it is interacting at certain times but due to the constraints cannot maintain its presence. The same with the bodies that appeared to be transporter affected, a shift in the physical reality but then degrading yet again." Allyndra nodded. What she did not say that there was a way to manipulate some of the causality.

"Well then, let's put this theory to a test shall we. Let's get back into the lab and see if we can concoct something that will allow is to give credence to this." Jacob's voice was filled with joy and the desire to do some field test work!

Allyndra made a nod of the head. "I will leave that up to you. I must return to sickbay for now." She stood and then made a small curtsey. "Thank you for listening to some of my ramblings. It is much appreciated. Now if you will excuse me." She turned to leave.

Jacob frowned, "Dislike my company already Allyndra? After all, to see this if this works or not would make anyone curious I would suspect, especially the one who thought it up in the first place."

Allyndra stopped and turned. "I would but sickbay is without its doctor currently. Much as I would love to stay and work with you." It was not a lie really, Mott had called in not feeling well and it fell to her to cover currently. "Besides if it does work," she said but added mentally, "and it will." Allyndra continued verbally, "I think it would be taken more seriously coming from the chief research officer than the ship's physician."

Jacob sighed, "Very well Allyndra... but it will taken seriously by the ship's physician because you are a respected member of the crew and extremely talented and gifted in your own right. The credit will be yours and yours alone, as it should be Allyndra, and if anyone doesn't like it...well that's just too damn bad." He smiled at her; although still somewhat saddened of her leaving his presence as he wanted to get to know her better. "I hope you will come visit more often Allyndra... after all, I need all the help I can get around here when it comes to ideas."

"If the idea works, we will share jointly." She stated and then sighed. "You are correct, I do miss talking to others and to you about ideas. It just..." She stopped and then came back to sit.

"It just is that in my culture such thoughts as these are considered something not to be favoured. In fact they are frowned upon. It is difficult to explain fully." Allyndra felt guilty and it showed. There was so much subterfuge and she just wanted to shout out everything, but though she had said and revealed things to a few, she could not to everyone.

Jacob smiled at her, "You can always talk to me about anything Allyndra. I welcome your input, I want to hear your thoughts, I want there to be no barriers to whatever is on your mind. Your creativity, your ideas are cherished here, as are anyone else's aboard this ship. You culture may not favor them, but I do and I do with a fully open heart and mind."

Allyndra nodded, "And that is why I do talk to you. However, it is as I said complicated." She sighed, "A long time ago we made big strides technologically speaking. We called people who made such leaps the A'burab'atu, the ones that do things fleetingly. The problem was that there was no vision of should such things be done or at least certainly not all the consequences. It lead to many disasters and they began to be called A'ksu or dangerous. Ever since then such odd leaps have been highly frowned upon and such watched or controlled. Hence," she made a shrug, "why it bothers me. Please I really would appreciate if such ideas as this my name is not mentioned. You may not fully understand but please accept that it is not good for me." She looked hard at Jacob.

Jacob bowed respectfully to her, "As you wish then Allyndra. I will keep this between you and I then."

"Thank you. That is why I leave it to you to test. Now I really must be getting back, I have been covering alpha shift for Mott lately. He picked up some nasty virus."

Jacob nodded sadly then went back to creating a test protocol regarding the possibilities that Allyndra had just put forth. It was going to be a long, but incredible afternoon.
