Mission: Episode 06 - Legend of Souls
Location: USS Galileo: Deck 3 - Sickbay
Timeline: MD06: 1630

ON:

Her bridge watch finished and some more paperwork completed from her mountain as she called her pile of padds, Min headed on down to the sickbay for her two week prenatal visit with Warraquim. She was moving a little slower then usual, and had been feeling small but irritating cramps in her stomach the past few days.

The biggest thing she'd felt different about was her stomach. From even a few weeks ago her baby felt like it was riding lower in her body then normal. All items to bring up with the doctor when she did her exam.

Entering sickbay, Min saw Warraquim sitting at her office desk. Waving at her Min went over to her usual biobed and sat down in the chair beside. Sickbay was pretty quiet and on a ship this size there was no real waiting area anyways so one either stood around, a bit hard on Min's back, or found a seat somewhere.

Allyndra looked up as the distinctive sounds of the sickbay doors opened and she noted Lieutenant Zhao enter. She waved and putting away the file she was working on brought up Lieutenant Zhao's file for a quick review. She knitted her brows for there was not another prenatal checkup due for at least another week. Well, things happened especially when a species carried the babies internally. Blanking out the screen she grabbed a PaDD for notes and headed on over.

"Good afternoon Min," Allyndra greeted cheerfully and she always used first names if possible. Her sickbay, her rules, but it also was because still most tended to use Warraquim and she had never gotten completely over that.

"Something off? I just did a quick check and your not scheduled for another checkup for a week."

"Not sure. You said if anything ever felt 'off' that I should come in. It's nothing major really but the past few days I've been feeling cramps, not painful but noticeable when I'm resting. Also, the baby feels like she's riding lower."

"Hmm...well let's get you onto the bed here and let's get a scan, make sure everything is going along alright." Allyndra offered to help and she kept up the chatter, "You know your something fairly new to me and for that matter most of the medical database. There have not been a whole lot of Human-Bajoran matings especially where the mother is Human."

"That's what starfleet Medical said back on earth. There's maybe a handful on record and I'm one of a even smaller few." Min scooted up on the table, lying back on the bio bed, propping a pillow that Allyndra offered under one hip. The pillow under her hip helped shift the baby a bit which eased some normal discomfort when she was on her back.

Allyndra got Min settled and then began the scan. She was quite surprised at the what she was seeing and took a probe in one delicate fingered hand and began to so detailed scans. "Now that is interesting!" She said and then looking at Min smiled, "No nothing bad, just a big change since last time you were here."

Min sighed a bit in relief, she got nervous when any doctor said 'Interesting.' during her pre-natal scans and Allyndra's assurance helped. "What sort of 'big change'?" Min asked as she looked at the monitor through the corner of her eye.

"The baby is taking a big development spurt." Allyndra finished her detailed scans to make sure that there was nothing abnormal in the development or the health of the mother. Finally satisfied she made a few notes.

"If I interpret the readings correctly it would appear that the baby has reached a stage of development that is putting out extra endorphins and causing other hormonal changes. The placenta has become much more complex. I think it is the Bajoran part that is exerting itself. Bajoran gestation is normally about five months but I would have thought this would be more of the Human nine."

Allyndra laughed lightly, "I would say my dear at the development rate that has started now maybe a month perhaps two faster to delivery."

"I'm already at 30 weeks into a typical human pregnancy so losing a month means I'm potentially due in what, two, three weeks? A Month perhaps?"

Min was secretly excited about the idea of being due a lot sooner then originally expected. As much as she was enjoying the experience of being pregnant, aches & pains aside, there came a point where one wanted the whole process to be finished and the baby to be born.

Allyndra nodded, "A month maximum. I am going to hazard a guess at three more weeks." She made that odd shrug that somewhat fluttered her wings. "It is only a guess and you are going to have to come in more frequently. Also," Allyndra picked up the PaDD again. "As such, since we are not sure exactly, I am going to have to put you on medical leave."

"I'll have to make some adjustments to departmental scheduling. The usual paperwork. I assume tho I am able to continue to do my duties as department head, just not the more strenuous aspects?"

"Reports and such I will say yes, but considering the impending delivery and then maternal leave I think it is time to start pulling in your next in command to fill in alright?"

Min nodded. She didn't, at present have an Asst DH, so that responsibility would most likely fall to CPO Graysan until a replacement could be found. "I guess I won't be part of the Great Tribble hunt then." Min frowned. "The infestation is larger then some realize and we're already short handed as it is."

"Tribbles or no tribbles, I want you to start taking it easy." Allyndra admonished.

"We have had not as much trouble here, it would seem that like Klingons the little furballs do not like Akkadians."

Min nodded. "As you say though, take it easy." She glanced down at her stomach where she could feel her daughter stretching a little. "Any signs I should look for to know I'm in labor, or need to see you immediately?"

"Nothing more than the usual, severe cramps, breaking of your water, but from what I have read on Bajoran births and this seems to be transitioning to one, I am going ask if you have any unusual emotional changes. I know it is hard to know exactly over the hormonal changes but if anything at all seems out of sorts. Alright?"

Min chuckled. "I'd ask Jared about mood swings but I think he's already feeling a bit storm tossed the past few weeks." Min smiled. "Jared's a good guy and I think he'll make a wonderful father, I just sometimes wish this could have been his baby, you know? Of course, if I hadn't been knocked up by that Bajoran, my travels never would've led me here so I suppose all's well that ends well?"

Allyndra only nodded. The details were none of her business just the final outcome. She would leave any problems with the relationship to the Counseling staff. She had done that job and it was not something she wanted to do again anytime soon.

"Now, as I said, if anything concerns you at all then report here or call. All of the staff here would rather ere on the side of caution than to let something that seems minor turn into something major." Allyndra made a polite head bow, "For now though all seems well, so good check up but lots of rest."

"Understood. Thank you Doctor."

"Good, and I think you will be holding your little one real soon." Allyndra replied and helped Min off the bed. She would have to put all this into notes for some future physician as well.
