USS Galileo - Main Shuttlebay

Keval was in a freshly replicated uniform, looking as though he had just stepped out of the shower- which he had. He carried an engineering tricorder, a phaser one in his boot and a mono-filament combat knife discretely on his inner right thigh.

He leaned against a bulkhead taking in the room, looking for one person in particular waiting for their arrival.

Jacob walked in; his stride filled with purpose, his mind filled with possibilities and excitement, he couldn't stop smiling to himself as he walked toward the shuttle.

'I do hope no one manages to do anything too testy today.' That was the thought on the mind of the partially Vulcan diplomat as he walked into shuttlebay. There was already enough trouble with everyone thinking the Cardassians were out to get them, it would have been dreadful if someone on the Galileo managed to annoy some of the miners, regardless of their race or belief. He spotted the smiling science type striding toward the shuttle, and decided to fall into pace next to him. "Good afternoon. Such a lovely day to meet new people, wouldn't you agree?"

"Good day to you as well sir. I don't think we have met. I am Chief Research Officer Jacob Pendleton. A pleasure to meet you." His deep voice was easy going in its tone and his friendliness was more than quite apparent despite his immense size.

"I do not believe we have." Lyras didn't seem the least bit intimidated by the man's size, or his title. "Lyras Ueda. Diplomatic Officer. It is indeed a pleasure."

Allyndra headed to the shuttle bay, her step was not lively. She had been requested to start the initial medical examination or at least be present with the first contract with some of the miners. While much was hidden underneath the Guild of Warraquim and other places, none the less her race were children of wide seas and open skies and some primal bit kept welling up that creatures with wings and underground were not the most compatible. She rechecked her medical tricorder, emergency medical kit for the fourth or perhaps the fifth time before stepping into the bay noticing people already there.

Tricorder, holstered on his belt. Small rock collecting pick point hammer, rock chisels, three different brushes with three different types of bristles and two PaDDs to record the data, all made up his tool kit that he would bring down to the surface of Lyshan III. His first away mission and Elijah was excited though on the outside shown pure professionalism. He wanted to make a good impression obviously. As he entered the shuttlebay, he gazed around and saw Keval leaning against a bulkhead. He offered a small smile and lifted his hand to wave at the Andorian.

Keval levered himself off the bulkhead and smiled back, giving a wave to the geologist in return.

Elijah approached the small smile still on his lips. "It's good to see a familiar face," he said as he looked around the shuttlebay. Only a few people had assembled so far.

"Yeah same here, they may ask us to pair up. Kind of a buddy system, I don't know. But if they do, do you want to work together?"

"Well sure, that would be fine by me," Elijah said. Either way, he was just excited to get to the planet surface. If there were ghosts or whatever, that didn't phase him, he just wanted to explore. Who he would be paired up with was a moot point in his book, though knowing it might be Keval was a good thing since he already knew the Andorian.

"Good, I've got your six, you know just in case we run into one of those haunted mind shafts or something," Keval said with a half smile. He really didn't believe in ghosts. Though he did not preclude the possibility of the reality of unusual occurrences he thought they probably had a quite natural source.

Elijah smiled, "Good to know." It was the truth, though he was excited to be going on this away mission, it was good to know someone would have his back. To help if needed and of course someone with experience.

Lt. Rhodes followed the group into the bay. He stood to one side and tried to look casual as he continued to look around, making sure he had the best tactical situation. One never knew when something would happen. The Security Chief had chosen to bring some support equipment. It was a small backpack with a portable shield generator and a disassembled Type III phaser rifle.

Allyndra smiled at Rhodes recognizing him from the opening of the bar but he looked all business so she did not disturb him.

Telling Keval he would be right back, Elijah moved from the Andorian and strode over to Pendleton after the man had finished up talking with another crew member. So much had gone on especially with transitioning from a planet based assignment to a starship one. He hadn't gotten a chance to meet Pendleton like he had planned and he thought that now was the perfect opportunity to do so. "Excuse me, Lieutenant Pendleton," he started, "I'm Lieutenant Elijah Williams, your geologist." He extended his hand then continued, "We haven't had the chance to meet yet."

Jacob took Elijah's hand into his own massive mitt, "Pleasure is all mine Lieutenant. You excited about this interesting opportunity we have in front of us?

Elijah nodded. "I am sir," which was the truth and not just blowing smoke. He had never met a Cardassian, though that left him a little apprehensive, he had been looking forward to the chance. Though, he had supposed it would have been better under different circumstances. "It will be a good learning experience I am sure," he added. This would be his first official away mission, he wanted to be sure he did everything right.

Delainey entered the bay and felt her stomach tighten in apprehension and excitement. It always felt good to her to be part of any activity designed to build bridges, but given the tension so many of the crew felt toward the Cardassians and the Cardassians' demeanor which so many perceived to be arrogant and aggressive, this particular assignment might prove especially sticky. The Cardassians were a prideful people, and inquiries into their emotional and physical health were likely going to put some on the defensive. Taking a deep breath and reminding herself to concentrate only on what she could control, she offered her characteristic smile and greeting to each person as she met their eyes. "Hi all."

Jacob excused himself from Elijah as he saw Allyndra and Delainey. He waived to them as he walked over to both of them. "Are we ready to do some ghost hunting?"

Allyndra caught the movement of Pendelton's hand.

She remembered the briefing that some had encountered some sort of non-physical manifestation; she flatly refused to call them ghosts. "I would love to see a non-corporal entity, yes."

Delainey chuckled. "I prefer my social interactions to be with a more lively bunch, if you know what I mean."

Jacob laughed, "Well whether corporal, non-corporal, living, non-living or any combination thereof will be fascinating to uncover and try and figure out through whatever means we have to figure them out. We must be with open minds as possible with being scientifically diligent and precise as possible. Now, that can't be too hard can it?" He smiled widely at both of them and gave both a wink.

Upon entering the shuttlebay, hands clasped loosely behind his back, Kouta was met with a sense of relief to see that the shuttle and associated away team was, in fact, still there. Not that he was that late this time around, or that he thought they'd actually leave without him, but being new always came with a small anxiety for the first few weeks. First impressions and all that.

Eyes fell from person to person, all standing in their little groups, with what could have been interpreted as friendly curiosity; but he didn't linger too long. As was the sociologist's nature, he moved quietly away from the main entry and off to the side, not so far removed to be seen as antisocial, but to his preferred observational standpoint. The goal of this mission was clear enough, monitor and evaluate the miners mental and physical condition in regard to these peculiar occurrences, but in his mind keeping an eye on his fellow crewmembers was just as important. This was a delicate situation after all, and even the slightest nuances on either side, if misinterpreted, could tip the balance in no one's favor. Better to be well informed.

Kouta adjusted the strap of the pack hung over his shoulder containing the few tools he was taking with him, looking from group to little group with that pleasant inquisitiveness again. 'Ah.. but with so many types, this should be veeery interesting.'

Moving in with a quick step, Scarlet Blake glanced around the others already gathered, letting her hands settle on her hips as she came to a stand still. "This will be a challenging task," she jumped straight into the quick briefing she wanted to give them before they headed down. Her features were cool and neutral, despite her feelings on having to work with Cardassians. "We're going to head down and talk to some of the colonists. We need to try and gather what clues we can as to what's behind the phenomena being reported. Right now, we don't know if it's medical, psychological or environmental, so we need to be on the look out for anything that might indicate what's going on.

This means we need to try and assess the colonists as we talk to them, as to their fitness in case this is something psychological or medical. However, we don't want them to feel like they're being interrogated, so it's a fine line. Now, I know I can trust that everyone will treat these colonists with respect and calm. We're here to help them.

We'll start as one group, but as we get to talking with individual colonists, it will probably be easier to break up into smaller groups. I'll divide us into smaller teams if that time comes, making sure each team has a variety of skills within it. We might be looking at their mental and physical state, but science and ops should also be keeping their eye out for any possible environmental cause too. All clear?"
