Mission: Episode 04 - Exodus
Location: USS Galileo - Amynta Markos' Quarters
Timeline: MD 08 - 2100

Previously, in 'Midnight at the Lost and Found'...

Alexion glanced to him, touching his arm, but to pick up on what he was thinking through the contact. He was silent when he realised what it was. How people Laeon knew now would be dead when he was older. It wasn't the first time Alexion had felt both pain and anger at his son having to grow up away from their homeworld and absent from his own people. "You have to make the best of what you have. Or there's no point."

Amynta looked at them, frowning slightly. She sipped her drink, taking a breath as she watched them. "And not to mention, enjoy each moment."

Alexion smiled, grateful to Amynta for the right words at the right time, nodding firmly. "It is all that matters."

And now, the continuation...

Laeon nodded, letting out a soft breath before his smile returned. "Maybe I should be a spy, like you, Myn."

Amynta chuckled as she leant closer, watching him for a long moment. "You are smart enough for it. But I don't recruit..." she winked, glancing over at Alexion. "Better ask the Academy about that side of things."

"Ha," Alexion waved a hand dismissively. "My boy is going to be President, not some officer on a ship," he grinned, clearly teasing both of them.

She laughed at that, her eyes warm. "Is he now? Well, he is as qualified as anyone I suppose," she winked to Laeon, her eyes warm.

Laeon shook his head with a small smile, laughing as he curled up on the sofa. "My first decree - bath pools shall be considered required equipment in every set of quarters on every serving vessel."

Amynta laughed softly, her eyes shining. "I love baths," she confessed, almost shyly. It was an indulgent treat for her.

"We had communal bathing pools too, back home," Laeon smiled at the memory, lost in it for a while. "The news and gossip."

She smiled warmly at that, her eyes on them. "Like the Romans," she said softly, her memories about ancient Earth civilisations triggered. "Did you have...forums?"

"Forums?" Laeon asked with confusion, shaking his head lightly. "What is that?"

Amynta smiled gently, sipping her drink as she looked over at Laeon. "Back on Earth, a long time ago even by your standards...we had a civilisation who were quite advanced. They had what they called forums. And they were big places where you had markets and where announcements were made...they were also places of gossip. People would go every day, more than once, to hear what was happening, to see their friends and leaders...and this area, this forum, would have things such as baths and temples around it. It was the centre of their...lives."

"Sounds like the Arena," Laeon smiled as he looked to Alexion with bright eyes. "All the news and announcements came from there. People would gather to meet and talk, to be the first to hear the news coming in, to see speeches and attend rallies."

She watched them both with awe, shaking her head. "It is like...seeing into a part of my people's history. How closely connected we are."

"Perhaps we planted humans on Earth," Laeon teased with a grin.

Alexion couldn't help but laugh at the suggestion, watching Amynta. "Hm? Planted. Like trees."

"Or spied on us," she said and winked. "Any records of your people being stranded with humans? Could be it..." she teased back.

"We kept ourselves to ourselves," Alexion smiled weakly, rubbing the back of his neck. Perhaps if they hadn't, the Federation would have been faster in reacting to their crisis. He pushed the thought away quickly.

She nodded as she watched him, reaching to squeeze his arm. "You must be tired..." she said gently.

"No," Alexion said quickly, shaking his head firmly.

"He's lying, he's exhausted," Laeon chipped in with speed, letting out a soft 'ow' as Alexion swatted his arm with the back of his hand.

"Will he sleep if he goes to his quarters?" Amynta asked Laeon, holding his eyes for a long moment.

"I am right here," Alexion waved his hand between them at Amynta talking as if he weren't, clicking his fingers.

"No," Laeon carried on as if he hadn't said anything at all, watching Amynta with mock serious features. "He will go back to work. And he will not take my energy either, not unless he has no choice."

"Okay," she said and watched them before shrugging. "You are both staying here tonight. It is not a suggestion...it is an order," she looked at Alexion, holding his eyes. "And don't you even try to disobey."

A slow grin spread across Alexion's features as he watched her, shaking her head. "That makes it sound like it would be fun to try."

"Don't push, doctor...or I will make you pay," she said lightly, but her eyes shone with humour.

Alexion's eyes shone, in a way that hinted he would say more if his son wasn't there. In the end, he gave a nod of the head. "You win. Again."

"Good," she said and smiled gently. "You and Laeon can take my bedroom. I will sleep out here."

"No," Laeon said quickly, shaking his head with a frown. "No. I will take the sofa, that is not fair."

Amynta looked at him with surprise, her eyes gentle. "Well, if you, Alexion, don't mind sharing the bed with me...?" she asked, looking at the man. "Means if you try and sneak off to work, I can stun you."

Alexion chuckled, standing up as he rested his hands on his waist. "Only if it is alright with you?" he asked, serious.

She stood as well, taking her drink to drain it. "Yeah, I've bunked with worse in my time," she smiled and moved to get a blanket and pillows for Laeon. "You sure you will be alright here?" she asked him.

Laeon smiled warmly, nodding firmly as he watched her. "Of course. We have slept in worse places in my time," he mimicked her earlier statement.

She nodded, smiling as she leant to stroke his fair hair back from his forehead with a gentle hand, not even realising she was doing it as she pulled back. "Sweet dreams. Help yourself to everything."

"Thank you....and do not worry, I will not assume you included the whiskey in that," Laeon assured with a soft smile, moving to curl up on the sofa.
