Mission: Episode 04 - Exodus
Location: USS Galileo: Deck 4 - MedLab
Timeline: MD06-1030

ON:

Allyndra lead Doctor Basile toward the Medical Lab and talked as she went.

"I am pleased that you could help out with the patients. However, what I would like to do is 'pick your brain' on a subject. The Captain was un-assimilated which is good but many other members have been taken and if we are lucky may recover them. I mentioned that I have been requested to be part of an away team and so have little time to fully explore further and thought to update you."

Giada walked briskly alongside Allyndra, genuinely flattered. "Of course, doctor. I'll help however I can. What's on your mind?"

"Well," Allyndra arrived at the MedLab and then held up a hand. "Activate Emergency Medical Hologram please."

"Please state the nature of the medical emergency" came the familiar words as the hologram appeared, he had been feeling relatively redundant in Sickbay having been left on overnight when the on call medical staff had retreated for some sleep, and was rather pleased that it's program would have something to commit it's considerable talents to.

"Doctor, this is Doctor Basile. Doctor Basile our EMH. Now the reason I asked you doctor," Allyndra looked at the EMH and thought she was going to have to get a name on the holographic doctor, "is your assistance in reprogramming the DNA 'scissors' was invaluable. I am hoping we will eventually get our other members back and since Doctor Basile has a specialty in molecular biology I thought perhaps before I left on the away mission we might be able to catch up and brainstorm just a little."

Giada glanced at the EMH and looked back to Allyndra. "You had my attention at 'DNA scissors'."

"It was really just a small research project I started on. Basically using DNA motifs to build nanomolecular machines. There was only a small consideration of using the 'scissor's to interfere with the construction of the Borg nanites. When we discovered that the Borg had attacked the Venture it became more imperative to see if they could be used. As of right now, any person that takes a dose of the 'scissors' within three hours will have the Borg nanites destroyed and remain unassimilated. Our EMH managed to programme them to help with the Captain's de-assimilation though she had gotten the 'scissors' later than three hours. What I have not had time is to research them further to see if they could be tweaked for crew that have become Borg. The Voyager files did manage it but there were residual problems that I was hoping we could avoid."

"Doctor, that's incredible," Giada said after listening intently. "Ingenious. How can I help with your project?"

"Well I will leave my notes on what we have and perhaps if there is time you can take a look at them and maybe look to see if I missed something or suggestions on how to improve them. I would like to continue but just in case something happens on this contact mission best leave things in another's hands."

"I'm flattered that you would trust me with this, even for a while. I'll make sure I look at it as soon as possible. I'm sure with the successful baseline you've already built, we can expand on it," Giada said, clearly looking at the chief with some admiration.

"Thank you but," Allyndra indicated the EMH with one hand. "As I said, our esteemed doctor here managed some very good insight. Perhaps the two of you will come up with something even better."

Giada looked to the EMH. "Could you fill me in on your contribution, Doctor?"

"Of course." The EMH replied, moving towards a terminal, tapping a few commands to pull up a schematic of the latest probe design.

"It took some doing but as you will see, with a little help from a nucleotide rearrangement, we have managed to increase the efficiency of the 'scissors' dramatically."

Giada considered the design carefully. "Ingenious, and unorthodox. I can absolutely see the benefit as an inoculation or immediate prophylactic against Borg assimilation," she said with a nod. "Arguably, the usual protocol of administering doses of gamma radiation is more effective in killing the nanites, especially in a fully assimilated host, but we all know how much fun it is to then heal the fallout from that... You know, I bet this could be used in a fully assimilated patient to prevent the nanites from sustaining themselves. I'm not sure what the lifecycle of a Borg nanite is, but then we could either wait them out or kill the remainder with vastly lower doses of gamma radiation."

"That sounds like a very good area. I will leave it in your hands doctors until hopefully I can catch up and we get our people back. Well, with that I will wish us all well." Allyndra nodded with a tight smile. "Now if you will excuse me I have to depart for the away mission. Good look doctors."

"Of course. Good luck, doctor," Giada said.

Allyndra nodded and headed off hoping that all would be well with the contact and that some new ideas would be sparked between the two doctors.
