Mission: Episode 04 - Exodus
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 4 - Sickbay
Timeline: MD 06 - 1000 hours

[ON]

Sickbay still looked like a war zone. The charred doors had been pulled out by engineering and the panels were propped against the wall in the hallway. Inside, there were scorch marks on some of the walls. Limited power meant the lights were dimmer than usual. And above all, it was busy... And about to get busier. The medical staff had been working non-stop for days, with no end in sight. And now away teams were going to the Borg cube to recover a dozen or more crew who would need full de-assimilation. A team meeting had been called and included Science personnel who had already been helping or could be of use. No Starfleet vessel had ever de-assimilated so many people; this was ground-breaking.

Giada finished up with her patient, a Venture ensign who lost a leg during the attack on the Galileo, and came over to join the Chief Medical Officer. "I hope we can get to a Starbase soon," the microbiologist and physician said. She was Science, but threw herself in with the medical staff as soon as the Venture crew were rescued and had not stopped since. "But I just finished my rounds and my board looks stable," Giada reported.

"Very good," Allyndra responded not sure that she had met this person before. There were a lot of people over from the Venture and so much had been going on that she was not sure who was who anymore.

Giada caught the slight uncertainty in Allyndra. She tucked some stray hair behind her ear. "Dr. Giada Basile, Science. I jumped in when I saw we needed another surgeon more than a molecular biologist," she explained.

Allyndra puzzled the name still. She had talked to many in science already about the scissors but that name was not one of them. "Ah," she covered, "thank you. I do appreciate the help. Molecular biology is your speciality?"

"Yes, doctor," Giada replied.

"Excellent I think I have some things to ask you but ..........." she trailed off as she spotted Doctor Carlisle and waved her over.

"Anyone you're particularly concerned about psychologically right this moment? Anyone especially emotional or particularly quiet that isn't medication related?"

Delainey knew it was impossible and even ill advised to offer individual counseling this minute to all thev survivors just trying to cope with medical challenges right now, but she wanted to offer crisis TLC for those in immediate and obvious need. Support now could lessen the damage later.

"Well, I've got an ensign who lost a leg who's really struggling. I don't want to keep sedating him, but he panics about his leg," Giada offered.

"That is something we can cover later, prosthetics have improved a lot but that will probably not make much impact at this point." Allyndra replied.

"Sir, I also think we should consider our chances here," Alexion Wylde moved closer at the conversation going on about crew well being. "We could have a lot of people coming back for de-assimilation. It is a highly complicated process that varies from person to person regarding how dependent each has become on the implants. We need to be ready to triage, and accept that we might not be able to successfully de-assimilate all of them, especially with such few staff and limited resources..." he looked to Carlisle. "Which could also be traumatic to other crew. Especially those on the teams that liberated them."

Allyndra only added, "We hope we have a lot coming back."

"Which begs the question of our game plan," Giada pointed out. "If we start getting assimilated crew back how far do you want us to go, doctor? Keep them under until we can get to a starbase? De-assimilate but leave the implants? De-assimilate and remove implants? We can do a lot of things here, including prosthetics, but some patient outcomes would be better at a Level I facility."

"I have hopes that perhaps we might do something else that no one else has done, but there is not the time, thus unless we have to I think perhaps keeping them under for now however I would like to see a consensus of action doctors." Allyndra looked at each of them.

"I would suggest a triage," Alexion mused, rubbing his jaw. "We examine all those that come in. Some may require less complex work and can be worked on here. Some will probably require 'layers' of work, some things removed now, others at a later time once we have Sickbay back to some normalcy, or at a medical base, but either way, they would still be 'themsleves' again, just in need of more work. Others that we think are just too much for us to handle ourselves could be kept in stasis for transportation to a bigger medical facility."

"It could work," Giada said. "It will push our surgical resources to the limit, but I'm sure the patients would think it's worth it to get the implants out."

Allyndra nodded in agreement. "That sounds like a solid plan. Doctors Wylde and Basile I am going to leave things to you to get set up while the rest of us are away."

"I will be away too, but I will do what I can to help out before we beam out," Alexion nodded to her, a soft breath escaping. He'd also been working on the tranquiliser for the Borg, as well as patients. But he required less sleep than humans, so he would push as far as he could to make sure they got through this rough current of the river. And then he would drink, smoke and pass out after.

"I'll follow your lead until you have to go, Doctor Wylde," Giada said. "Then those of us who are staying will hold the fort until you both get back."

Allyndra nodded and then looked at Giada, "If you have a few moments there is something I would like to discuss with you."

"Of course, Doctor," Giada replied.
