Scarlet was leant back on her hands, stretched out on the grass as she sighed, enjoying the feel of sun. She laughed gently as she watched Lily running frantically backward and forward, trying to make her kite fly for more than a few moments. "This was a great idea."

"I thought it would be something different," Aria smiled as she watched her, her eyes shining. "And maybe make her burn some of that energy off."

"I agree," Scarlet smiled across to her. "I don't know though. Some days you seem to have just as much energy as she does!"

Aria smiled as she arched an eyebrow. "That, my dearest, is called sugar rush..." she said teasingly, winking.

"Perhaps I should get me some more sugar then," Scarlet teased back with a warm laugh.

Aria smiled warmly as she rolled onto her stomach, watching her closely. "You enjoy this too...you two deserve it."

Scarlet watched her fondly, smiling gently as she took a breath. "You are so youthful."

Aria hit her leg, holding her eyes. "You're not old yet, Scarlet..." she said gently, meaning it.

Scarlet laughed gently at that, holding her eyes with a warm smile. "I know, you just...you're different."

Aria looked down before smiling weakly. "Want the truth?" she looked at her and smiled gently. "Part of me holds onto childishness because...it's how I get to remember my Dad. Being silly. Being childish."

Scarlet tilted her head as she watched her with a gentle smile. "Nothing wrong with that, Aria."

Aria smiled as she watched Scarlet, reaching to squeeze her knee. "You have a lot you keep buried, darling."

Scarlet searched her eyes before squeezing her hand gently with a smile. "I don't mean to," she said gently. "It just seems - natural that way."

Aria smiled as she held Scarlet's eyes, searching them. "Well...if you ever want to air it...I am here."

Scarlet smiled softly, stretching out as she watched the younger woman. "If it helps, I think you suit this life better than the Marines. And this way, with you here, I get a free babysitter, and a great mate," she teased with a wink.

"Good," Aria laughed softly, her eyes shining as she crossed her legs at the ankles. "You are pretty amazing though. But you know it...as does Lily. So...thanks. For letting me in."

"You don't have to thank me for that," Scarlet said firmly, holding her eyes. "You're done a lot for us. For me. You're generous with your time, and I know I can trust you with her."

"Well, not that the time was that precious. Hell, you are saving me from hangovers, tequila shots and generally causing trouble..." Aria smiled as she held her eyes, chuckling. "I like being here with you two."

"Ah, but shots are good too," Scarlet teased with a small smile, winking to her.

"Yes...love the shots. Not sure about the hangover though..." she smiled and pursed her lips, her eyes shining. "You ever had someone around Lily before? Like a boyfriend, I mean."

"Not really," Scarlet admitted with a soft smile. "I - haven't had anyone serious."

Aria smiled as she held her eyes, watching with curiosity. "Why not?" she asked, watching Scarlet with easy warmth.

"There's not been time, or the right person," Scarlet said softly, shaking her head lightly with a sigh. "No one I have trusted enough."

Aria smiled at the words, understanding all too well. She had Lily to think of. "You trust me though? You let me look after her."

"Yes," Scarlet said firmly, holding her eyes with a warm smile, so she could see it was true. "I do, Aria, believe it or not," she teased.

"So you don't need to keep things trapped up there..." Aria laughed gently, reaching to tap Scarlet's temple. "You trust me with Lily, so if you ever want to, you can, you know, trust me with that too. You're always looking after other people's heads, you keep your own all squashed up."

Scarlet laughed at how she put it, closing her eyes. "I'll keep that in mind. In my squashed mind."
