Location: USS Galileo: Deck 2 - Lt JG Scarlet Blake's Quarters

OLD:

Oliver frowned as he reached to touch his hair, stroking it back. "Verity..." he whispered, with pain. "You'd never let me down. And there's nothing I wouldn't forgive within a heartbeat."

Verity swallowed, but smiled gratefully at the sentiment. "I hope I never test that out."

"If you do, it doesn't matter," Oliver said quietly, watching his face before hugging him tightly. "Special man."

NEW:

Verity laughed at that, shaking his head, feeling his skin heat with embarrassment at the words. "Says you. The dashing, brooding pilot who looks like he's the tall, dark and handsome rogue from a holonovel."

Oliver watched him for a long moment before smiling gently. "Not sure who you are watching. More an awkwardly tall scarred former Marine turned pilot..."

Verity watched him with shock, holding his breath as he touched his shoulder. "Don't say that. That's not true at all," he said firmly, aching at the idea of him thinking like that about himself.

Oliver smiled gently, watching him for a long moment. "You've got a very kind heart..." he whispered softly.

Verity shook his head with a slight frown, looking down. "No. I'm not being kind. I'm just telling the truth. You're not like that, not at all."

He smiled, leaning closer as he touched his chin, tilting his head up. "Don't look so serious, Verity...it's all okay. I promise."

Verity held his eyes for a long moment, to make sure it was true and that he meant it before nodding, letting out a long breath. "I don't want you to feel like that about yourself."

Oliver chuckled softly, watching him before touching his shoulder. "Says the man warning me he'd let me down! If you have more faith in yourself, I will have more faith in my sex appeal."

Verity couldn't help but laugh at that, looking away as his eyes shone with mirth. "I can do faith."

"I bloody hope so," he said as he touched his arm. "In yourself for you though, not for Him. He's too busy to help out with the small stuff."

Verity grinned at that, pointing his finger so it tapped against Oliver's chest. "You've been taught well."

"Catholic orphanage," he said and smiled, arching an eyebrow as he chuckled.

"Wow, you must be pleased," Verity said sarcastically, but meant it teasingly. "Thought you got away from the priests and here you are sharing a room with one."

"Maybe it is what makes me...far more lenient to it?" Oliver asked quietly, holding his eyes for a long moment. "It is what you believe it. You will always carry it close."

Verity watched him for a long moment, a long, slow breath escaping as he thought about it. "What do you believe, Oliver?" he finally asked, softly. It wasn't a question he often asked so boldly. It usually seemed rude and pushy coming from a priest as he had been, and an ex-priest as he was now.

Oliver held his eyes for a long moment before touching his cheek. "The same things you do," he finally said.

Verity searched his eyes before smiling gently, letting out a long breath. "That's why you don't mind my Saint Sebastiano shrine in our quarters."

"I don't mind it all..." Oliver said and smiled gently. "Although trust you to find the gayest saint there ever was."

Verity laughed, watching him with disbelief for a moment. "You only say that because the paintings and sculptures of him are beautiful," he said softly.

Oliver smiled warmly, his eyes shining as he sat back. "You tell me it never crossed your mind?"

Verity laughed as he sat back, arching an eyebrow. "You know he is the patron Saint of soldiers, right?"

He nodded as he watched him, his eyes shining. "My point exactly..." he grinned, nudging him playfully.

Verity pushed his shoulder, laughing as he shook his head. "You're incorrigible."

Oliver smiled warmly, shaking his head as he sipped his tea. "I am. I know I am...and you know I mean nothing bad with it."

"I know," Verity grinned as he watched him. "I like it," he suddenly admitted, looking down.

He smiled gently as he watched him, reaching to touch his cheek. "Wildchild..."

Verity looked back to him, smiling at the name as he let out a soft breath. "People wouldn't believe it of a priest."

He smiled gently at that, stroking before pulling his hand back. "Well...I believe it of Verity. Priest or not."

Verity held his eyes, watching him, almost feeling lost for a long moment. "You realise I'm not doing anything here, right?" he whispered.

He watched him before looking down. "I thought you had realised by now the change one man can make by simply touching the soul of another...making them want to be a better man."

Verity's lips parted as he let out a soft breath, watching him with a frown. "Have I done that?" he asked quietly.

He looked at him, searching Verity's eyes. "You make me want to be a better man. You have reminded me of faith I thought I had pretty much lost."

Verity's frown deepened and he let out a long, tight breath. He reached out, touching his arm. "Your faith was still in there. It had just been buried by hard times."

Oliver held his eyes before reaching to touch his forehead. "No. It had been burned," he said quietly. "Just...you do good work here. I would be less happy without you."

"Then it makes it worth it," Verity said firmly, reaching out to take his hand, gripping it tightly.

Oliver used the grip to pull him close, hugging him tightly. "So much doubt inside of you, Verity."

Verity laughed weakly at that, nodding as he tightened his arm around him. "Don't tell anyone. I'm supposed to have answers."

"I have answers," he whispered and kissed his hair. "When you need them. Maybe more opinions, less answers, but...hey..."

"I like hearing your opinions," Verity smiled fondly, shaking his head. "They're exciting."

He chuckled as he closed his eyes, taking a breath. "You are the best roommate."

"Apart from taking up the whole quarters with all my books and things," Verity chuckled, but with a grin as he looked down.

"I like your books...shame I can't steal your clothes," he said, winking as he pulled back to watch his face.

"No, you're feet are enormous," Verity said with an arched eyebrow, keeping an innocent look on his features and wide, blue eyes.

Oliver grinned as he arched an eyebrow, biting his lip. "Mmm...matches my ears..."

"Well at least you said ears and not something else," Verity laughed, the sparkle in his eyes undeniable as he set their cups down.

"I don't want to press my advantage too far," Oliver laughed with him, shaking his head as he took a deeper breath. "We could curl up on the sofa together? I take it Scarlet won't be back for quite some time..."

Verity shook his head with a small smile. "She's on one of the Away Teams. That's why I'm staying the night here."

"Ah...well, I am on one tomorrow...which is why I wanted to be here with you," Oliver admitted, meeting his eyes for a long moment.

"Sorry, if I'd have known I'd have stayed," he said quietly, shaking his head with a frown.

"No," Oliver said and smiled warmly, touching his cheek. "If...you didn't mind...I could sleep in the chair tonight? Here, with you?"

"Wouldn't you be terribly uncomfortable in a chair?" Verity asked with worry, shaking his head with a frown.

"No," Oliver said and smiled warmly, shaking his head. "First rule as a pilot...learn to sleep everywhere."

Verity laughed softly, nodding as he held his eyes. "Good, because I don't want the chair, I want the sofa."

Oliver laughed warmly, nodding as he leant to kiss his forehead before standing. "More tea?"

"Good idea," Verity nodded, smiling warmly as he carried the tray over to the kitchen area.
