Captain's Log, Stardate 69362.7

"Galileo is returning to Regula I with Praxis following close in our warp wake. It's been a challenging two weeks for myself and the crew. The loss of the cold station wasn't unexpected, but with all hands? All those civilian personnel? We debriefed the only two scientists who survived. They didn't appear stable; physically, yes. But not mentally. They attempted to justify the sacrifices of their colleagues in the name of 'scientific exploration'. Sacrifices they enabled and oversaw as head researchers. I've confined them to quarters, but...I suspect something affected them there, on that station. Whatever they experienced -- wherever they transported to -- seems to have altered them. Maybe even some of my own crew who were tasked on the recovery mission.

"We have several personnel who are still in sickbay recovering. Warrant officer Darius, Lieutenant Shizn, and several others remain under medical care. And some of those who recently returned uninjured are...not quite the same. Commander Blake seems colder and more distant. Well, she was always cold to begin with. But maybe even more now. And our counselor Karras also seems distant, as if he saw something there which triggered an existential crisis. Our orders were to destroy the cold station if deemed unrecoverable and that's what we did. I have no regrets, especially after learning of Starfleet's clandestine research.

"Lieutenant Rice is now aboard the Klingon battlecruiser Praxis as Starfleet's newest exchange officer. I believe she's a resourceful woman who'll manage to navigate those complexities. Most Lunans are. But I still wonder about one of my other officers, Ensign Mimi. The Nekomi. In my personal opinion, she's not officer material. She's a liability who even the senior NCOs wouldn't tolerate on their best days given her recent behavior. Challenging Captain KehG to the death with only personal revenge on her mind... It was selfish and short-sighted. Now those consequences affect us all.

"This crew's still in need of more discipline. Maybe a not-so-gentle reminder that we're still representatives of the Federation wherever we travel and not a motley crew acting on the whims of feelings and imaginations. Fortunately, I won't have the pleasure of commanding this vessel for much longer. Our return to Regula I is imminent and hopefully Command will return me to my standard strategic operations duties.

"Computer, end log."
