ON:

Amynta smiled to herself as she walked down the hallway. She was alone and off duty...so rather than her uniform, she wore a dress with a jacket and heels. Who said a girl had to look bad? Besides, she was going to see the chaplain. If she wanted to get to know the ship, the crew...she needed to know their heart.

Verity was just outside the office, opening it up for the day. He glanced down the corridor as he heard sharper footsteps than usual, smiling when he saw the woman. He hadn't seen her before, and he was sure, with her dress style, he would have remembered. "Hello," he gave a slight wave.

Amynta smiled as she moved to him, her eyes warm. "Hello," she said and offered her hand. "Amynta Markos, I've not been on the crew long."

He took the hand, shaking it warmly, letting out a long breath. "Nice to meet you, Amynta, I'm Verity. Verity Thorne. I sort of, well, run the chaplaincy," he chuckled, motioning to the door.

She nodded, holding his eyes as she smiled. "So you have some time today by any chance?"

"I always have time," he said with a gentle smile, shaking his head. He motioned her in, calling for the lights to come on. "It's not much, but it does."

Amynta looked around with warmth, smiling to herself. "No...I rather like this, to be honest."

"Then please, take a seat," Verity assured, pulling his uniform jacket off to hang up, getting comfortable and settling in. "Can I get you anything? I'm going to have some tea."

She met his eyes as she took a seat, her own gentle. "I would love a cup of tea, Mr Thorne."

"Please, call me Verity," he assured quickly, moving to get the teapot brewing. "What do you think of the ship then?"

"It's small," she said and smiled to him, her eyes shining as she studied him. "I wanted to see you, to see how you view the ship. Any concern areas, that sort."

"Concerns?" he asked with a small smile, carrying the tray back to the table, sitting on the sofa as he watched her with dark blue eyes.

She met his eyes and chuckled softly. "Weaknesses. Areas where you think Intelligence should keep an eye on things?"

"You're asking the wrong man. I don't deal with things like that," Verity laughed softly, resting back as he shook his head with a smile.

"But you hear the concerns of the crew," she said and smiled gently. "Not about the technical stuff...but their instinct."

He searched her eyes for a long moment before giving a slow, small smile. "I would say that the previous science project rattled a lot of us. But I know nothing much about it."

She watched him with interest before nodding. "Well, science things can be scary when it goes wrong..." she smiled and looked down. "I am nervous, Verity."

"Why?" he asked with surprise, leaning to fill their cups up. He hadn't been expecting her to say that.

"Because I am worried I will be bored here," Amynta admitted and shrugged. "I am Intel. This is research ship...I am used to...sinking my teeth into things."

"Ah," he nodded with understanding, sliding the cup across to her with a small smile. "Hence the fishing for info."

"Yes...rather badly too," she said and smiled, shaking her head as she took her cup. "Thank you for this."

"More than welcome," he shook his head with a small smile, searching her features. "I suppose this will be much more intel analysis than field work."

"Which I can do, of course," Amynta said and sighed softly as she sipped the tea, a moan escaping too. "This is divine..."

Verity laughed softly at the reaction. "Ah, well there's your first bit of intel. It's real, I got it from this old fashioned shop in London. Quaint, really." He paused, just searching her eyes for a long moment. He chuckled, squeezing her arm for a long moment. "Don't you worry, Amynta. Nothing stays quiet for long here."
