Cyrus knew that it was getting near his shift time, and the entire TRT: the Tactical Response Team was coming along in record time, it was finally time to inspect some candidates from outside his own department. He had decided that Engineering was as good a place to start as any. Stopping in the Turbolift he looked upward and sighed outwardly. "Deck seven." He commanded and the lift thrummed to life dropping without little notice or movement inside.

It was long before the doors opened up once more and he continued his way towards the Chief Engineer's Office. Quinn had talked about Lilou Peers and recommended her highly, hopefully she would have an idea who would fit best with their response team.

As the doors to her department opened again, Lilou glanced up from the pile of PADDs. She'd been hoping it would be Rothgra or Brauer, but instead... she rose from the ground just as the security officer arrived at the open office door. "Yes?"

The muscled ex-marine took a step forward. "Ensign Peers? Chief Warrant Officer Kiwosk at your service. I was hoping to talk to you, The Chief of the Boat spoke highly of you."

It was an effort not to flinch at the clear marine posture, but she held her ground. Quinn had sent him to her. Quinn wouldn't send danger to her. Unless he had somehow become extraordinarily passive aggressive. Which was possible, she supposed. Slak was just outside. "I am- I am Ensign Peers, yes." She cleared her throat, "Would you take a seat?" She clasped her hands behind her back, "What's on your mind?"

"Please." He moved to sit down, relaxing slightly, but still highly alert. Engineering always felt tense to him, it wasn't something he was overly used to. " Chuckling, he smiled. "I'm not sure if you have heard the changes going on in Security, but due to the previous crisis Lieutenant Stone and myself deem it important to form a highly specialized team that would respond to these...problems, wherever they might show up. " He was trying to be as professional as possible. "This team would need to be highly adaptable and multi-purpose.

"I'm looking for a highly qualified individual that could could be our team's Engineer. "

Previous crisis? Lilou wondered. Which one? "Sorry, I don't- you want someone from my department... to transfer to Security?"

He chuckled. "Not at all, actually it would be quite the opposite. Whoever is selected isn't suddenly a member of Security. It's more of a..." He looked for the word. "More like a special course that allows him to respond during crisis situations that would require an engineer's talents. He or she would still work in Engineering, would still work their duty roster and nothing would change concerning their active duties, but they would receive combat training and crisis prevention training once every seven ship days."

He studied Peers hard, for an ensign, she carried herself well. It was small wonder why Quinn held the woman in high regard. "So I guess you could consider the TRT a bit of a 'passive duty'. " He chuckled. "Please feel free to ask your questions. I'm an open book Miss Peers. "

He wasn't a book at all. Books didn't stare at her like something interesting on a lab slide. "They would receive combat training and crisis prevention training," she repeated. "What sort of crisis are you anticipating?"

"Anything that the Captain, XO or Lieutenant Stone deem worth using the TRT. " He paused. "Emergencies like Boarding parties, On and off ship combat situations that require your more than average Security Personnel, SFI Operatives running around at two in the morning taking Officers hostage and escaping in Shuttles...you know, that sort of thing." Cyrus rattled nonchalantly.

"It's to protect the ship and her crew, by preventing a possible situation from getting bad or a bad situation from getting worse. The Engineer on this team would be responsible to take care of Mechanical failures, power fluxes and other various...engineered based problems." He smiled. "The only difference is that some of these issues might have to be done while under fire or in high stress situations...like the one with the Operatives coming aboard.

"We don't want to have something like that happen again and we not be prepared for it. That's the whole purpose of assembling this team. "

SFI Operatives coming aboard to take officers hostage? Lilou listened intently. Why would that happen on this ship? Well... after the last mission where Intel had bulldozed their mission straight into Klingon warships, maybe she shouldn't be surprised about taking such precautions. "It seems to me that it might be useful for you to just... train everyone. The more casual bodies you have in a high stress situation, the more complicated it gets for the people who are actually handling it." SFI Operatives? She tugged her ear thoughtfully. "Time and resources, I know. If you're looking for just one..." She shook her head. They all worked well under pressure. That was what the Engineering department was. Shields failing, anti-matter leaks, hull breaches... Damage control. Even Rothgra could probably handle the pressure of it; he just lacked the experience to do too much on his own. Yet. He was a really smart kid. "You have our personnel files," she said quietly. "I don't suppose you came in here with someone in mind."

Seeing her eyes fix him with an intent, wasn't a surprise given what had happened a couple nights previours, but he has assumed that a lot of people had been awake during the massive firing that went on. He shrugged and shook his head. "Not Particularly. I'm looking for someone with recommendations, who is highly skilled, someone that stands out above the others and most of all: Someone who can get the job done. " He leaned forward. "I came to you first, because of three things. The first is that I'm asking to train someone from your department to deal with a level of danger that is above the normal tour of duty. Personally I would feel better knowing who was looking to recruit them and why, instead of getting a PADD message. Second, I came to you because I've heard Quinn speak nothing but praise for your ablilities, and if anyone can get praise out of that old man, has to be worth her salt in talent and training talent. Third and possibly the most important is that I want you to know that I'm as open to your suggestions about this team as I am from anyone else. You have a say in this as well, it's not just for Security to decide. "

With him saying his peice he relaxed visibly. "And while I have files, I've learned from my time on board the Fitzgerald that files might not lie, but they don't show current opinions or states of mind of individuals. For that I want the opinions of the people they see everyday and their superiors. So, here I am." He spread his hands wide only to have them relax on the chair.

"Right." She lifted her brows. "I've got someone in mind. I'll want to speak with him before I suggest him. I hope you understand why."

He nodded. "Of course, you take your time. i appreciate this Miss Peers. "

Lilou straightened, studying him. Miss. The word grated on her nerves. She couldn't tell if he meant the disrespect to her station or had just happened upon it accidentally. She hadn't been a 'miss' for years. "It's no trouble," she told him quietly. "I'm happy to contribute, if my colleague is willing." Unclipping her PADD from her belt, she sent a message to her engineer to start the discussion process. Message sent, she went to the door, "I'll let you know as soon as I have anything to share, Mister Kiwosk."

"Much obliged. I'll keep in contact and should your colleague is willing to accept the position I'll forward you all trainings and schedules to you." He smiled. "Thank you for contributing to this team." He stood up to leave and extended his hand. "I'd hope to be able to talk to you in a less formal setting." He leaned in. "I would have asked you to discuss this over a beer or two in the mess, but apparently that's 'bad manners'."

"Is it?" Lilou asked. "According to whom?"

Cyrus blinked and grinned. "Deal. Next time we'll meet, I'm buying." He gave the CEO a quick nod, before heading to the next Department head.
