Mission: Episode 18 - Cold Station 31
Location: USS Galileo-A - Lt. JG Rafe Caradec's Quarters
Timeline: MD 17 - 1602 Hours

[ON]

Rafe surveyed the room. He was not quite finished. "Lt. Caradec to Ensign Mimi."

Sat down for the first time in nearly 12 hours Mimi relaxed slightly in her chair in the operations office, going over the latest reports about how the repairs and the resupply operations were proceeding when her combadge chirped. =/\= Go ahead Lieutenant. =/\=

"Ensign, if you're free can you meet me outside my quarters?" Rafe went into his bathroom and started packing his toiletries, more so in an act of faith than anything else, hoping that Mimi would be able to take care of his request.

Mimi's nose twitched, it was an unusually specific request but relatively vague at the same time, she doubted it was anything vitally important to fixing the ship which was her whole departments priority right now but whatever it was had some importance or he'd have logged it as a job and not called her directly. =/\= I will be there soon. =/\= She picked up a blank Padd and slipped it into her pocket before heading out the door.

Rafe acknowledged the reply and kept working. His increased responsibilities of being the Senior Conn Officer allowed him the privilege of getting his own quarters for senior officers. He only hoped she would have one available on short notice. Regardless, he was glad to have been recognized by the Captain as being qualified, even despite the fact that he almost squashed her ship. That was a lively bridge for a moment there. Yeah, he thought to himself, he better not let something like that happen again.

In only a couple of minutes and after having deftly avoided getting dragged into a conversation with a worker from Regula one helping out Mimi arrived outside Rafe's quarters, he wasn't outside as his call said so she tapped the chime.

Rafe heard the chime and walked over and opened the door. Ensign Mimi stood there and so he welcomed her in. "Please come in Ensign. Thank you for coming so quickly, I appreciate it. Would you like anything to drink or eat? It's on me."

"I am fine, thank you." Mimi replied as she stepped into Rafe's quarters but stayed near the door, straight away she noticed partially packed kitbag. "How can I help?"

"Well, Captain Tarin just made me the Senior Conn Officer so I would like to move into some senior officer's quarters if you have any available.", Rafe summarized.

Mimi gave him a small smile. "Congratulations," She said and pulled the Padd she'd taken from the office out of her pocket.

"Well, thank you Ensign. I just hope I can deliver whatever the Captain needs, whenever she needs it. So, any openings anywhere?" Rafe asked.

"Let me take a look." Mimi bought the Padd to life and ran a quick search of the quarters assignment list. "You are in luck." She told him after a few seconds. "There is a senior officer quarters on deck four that is completely vacant."

"Excellent!", Rafe responded. He grabbed one of his bags, already packed, and looked around the room, "If you have time, please lead the way. I'll come back for the rest of my gear later." He turned to face her with his gear bag, with the face of "Eager as a beaver" written all over it!

"This way, we do not have far to go on a ship this size." Mimi said and turned to head down the corridor towards a turbolift.

Rafe followed the Ensign out the door and down the corridor to the turbolift. They got in and he heard her say deck 4. "Nice, I'll be near the shuttle bay. I may spend a little extra time in there with the shuttles. Have you ever been interested in flying, Ensign? It can be thrilling, awe-inspiring, stressful, and sublime, all in the same flight."

"I can fly, well enough to pass the flying exam." Mimi replied. "But I am not the best pilot, for a species very agile it does not transfer well to flying."

The turbolift came to a stop on deck 4 and they exited. "I'm sure the lateral thrusters and z-plus/minus maneuvering doesn't translate well at all from the natural ability to slightly manipulate your muscles without thinking and just do what comes naturally, knowing it needs to be done. I guess it's lost in translation.", Rafe looked at her and laughed. "Huh...huh!!!" He laughed some more. Obviously thinking it was fabulous joke!

Mimi cocked her head to the side a little, she understood the words Rafe had used but didn't quite see how it constituted a joke. She remained silent for a moment before continuing down the corridor. "This one can be yours Lieutenant."

Rafe looked at the blank digital door assignment on the wall panel outside the quarters. Just the location he wanted, starboard side, aft cabin. He touched the digital panel and it lit up, showing

He felt so thankful to be in this moment. He figured he better not waste any more of the Ensign's time so he stepped inside and looked at the modest, yet very well stocked quarters. "Mimi, thank you so much. This is awesome!", as he kept looking around. After a brief moment, he turned around and once again expressed his gratitude. "I'll have my old quarters cleaned up and vacated by 1900 hours."

"I do not think there is any need to rush." Mimi said offering a small smile at his excitement. "Enjoy settling in to your new quarters."

"Thanks again, Ensign.", Rafe said as she turned and walked down the corridor and the door to his quarters swished close. Rafe turned his face and took in the space. My own quarters, he thought to himself. He was so happy!
