Mission Summary

News of the recent tragedy in the Latari system is quickly making its way through Starfleet Command's highest administrative circles. The discovery of proto-Tholian lifeforms — and the realization that Genesis research from a hundred years ago now threatens carbon-based life in the Alpha Quadrant quadrant — has many within the Federation's leadership concerned. Secrecy abounds in an effort to contain the spread of information for fear that public knowledge will unleash a backlash within the populace.

Battle damaged with a weary crew, USS Galileo and her task group depart the Latari system and arrive at space station Regula I three months later for a much-needed resupply and shore leave. Regula I serves not only as Galileo's new home port and command center for all Pleiades Cluster operations, but ironically as the birthplace of Genesis research conducted under the supervision of Doctor Carol Marcus and her son, David. The Nova-class' crew is debriefed and given two weeks of R&R which is quickly rescinded when an urgent matter arises.

A nearby research station, Cold Station 31, has unexpectedly ceased communications. Nearby Starfleet scout vessels also report a loss of sensor contact, both visual and electromagnetic. The Galileo's crew is recalled to deploy on short notice and their shore leave is cut short in order to ascertain the status of the secretive facility. Little information is revealed regarding the nature of the cold station's experiments or its crew. Galileo must locate the facility, investigate, then report back to Regula I.
