Mission: Episode 11 - Divinum Mundi
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 4 - Lenaris' Quarters
Timeline: MD 14 - 1820 hrs

[ON]

For some reason Natalya found herself standing outside Marika's quarters. She knew exactly why she was there, of course, but couldn't say why now... and not tomorrow. Or two weeks ago. Their dinner in Hong Kong had gone great, but they'd seen little of one another since then. And it had done nothing to resolve her sense of uncertain footing.

Maybe it was because Natalya had heard that Marika's roommate had recently left the ship. She'd wanted to stop by and chat so many times before, but it always felt weird with the thought that someone else might be there to answer the door. There was so much she wanted to say, but in a way she was too afraid to say any of it... especially with company. And asking Marika to stop her her cabin would've been even more bold.

The longer Natalya stood there the more nervous she felt. Her finger stuck out and jabbed the door chime, as if of its own accord. She ran a hand through her hair, as if that would make a difference. She was wearing her best uniform... at least, the one that she thought looked and fit best.

Resting on her back in the middle of the tiny room, legs up balancing an apple on the sole of one foot and a stack of PADDS and books on the other. When the door chimed she wrinkled her nose and wondered why someone would chime an open door... until she realized it wasn't open. Why wasn't it open?

"EeeentuUUR!" Twisting her neck in an attempt to see who was going to come in, Marika wracked her head, trying to figure out when she'd closed the door.

Natalya walked in, wondering what the Cheshire Cat did in her own native habitat. "Hey Mari-" She trailed off, taking stock of things. "Is uh... is this a good time?"

"Why wouldn't it be?" Was it the balancing act? Although she had to admit even she didn't remember why she'd started doing this, perhaps it looked odd? Unless it was her state of near undress? Still her regulatory underwear covered enough not to be embarrassing to most no? Then again, perhaps Natalya found that distasteful in some way, or inappropriate. Perhaps it had to do with the blueberry pie on the lower bunk. Her mind jumped again. "Have you ever tasted a purple potato?"

Natalya looked down at Marika with a smug smile. She was a sight to behold, even.... no, especially in her underwear. "I'd heard this was the place for yoga-juggling and naked pie-eating contests." She tickled the tips of Marika's toes as she crossed the cabin and picked up the pie, moving it to the top bunk. She snuggled herself onto the bottom bunk, knowing it was Marika's; she caught her scent on the pillows. "By the way, say hi to your new roommate." She teased.

Giggling at the engineer’s pedial attention, Marika's eyes went wide at the thought of having her as a roommate. “THAT! Would be. AWESOME! If somewhat unlikely.” She grinned at her guest and wiggled her nose. “Being a department head you get your own quarters, for your lonesome. Although if you were in a relationship then I guess it could be permitted for you to share your quarters with someone, but even then it wouldn’t be in a junior or enlisted bunk bed style room unless it was a special request of some kind then I guess that could happen although i still think that’s unlikely.”

Staring into Natalya’s ayes, she continued. “Somehow I doubt the Captain would go for a nudist approach to a pie eating contest even if it would offer a very unique perspective to a rather interesting culinary situation. We should try that with the next shore leave!” Slowly, she brought the items she was balancing down and sat up cross legged, head tilted to the right smiling.

Senior officers quarters were overrated. Natalya thought, meeting Marika's gaze somewhat dreamily. There was so much wasted space. Unless she had kids running around... then no amount of space would likely be enough. The beds were nice though. Better than falling off the top bunk when the inertial dampeners decide to take a sick day.

Natalya's gaze began to drift, and she tried not to make it seem obvious. How was she supposed to talk about this? It felt so weird! But then again, Millions of potential lovers had probably had the same discussion wearing much less. She felt like such a prude... fully clothed as she was. Natalya could be weird too!

"Why wait?" Natalya said, unzipping her uniform jumpsuit and shrugging out of the top half, letting it fall and hang at her waist as she sat up and slid off the bunk to sit on the deck with Marika. She took off her gold tunic and tossed it playfully toward her friend. Natalya couldn't help but blush, sitting there wearing nothing above the waist but a bra.

Marika's eyes went wide with surprise as she caught the tunic top. A fit of giggles shook her as she threw it behind her with excited mirth, turning as to face the engineer. How audacious! How daring! How unseemly! Marika loved it! "Scuttlebutt has it there's been things happening." She nodded fiercely as if her last phrase had a specific meaning.

"I wonder if something will come of it, or if it will simply linger on eternally. Then again I guess sometimes one feels compelled to hide things instead of sharing them. Which can make sense, especially if it interferes with other people and such. Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait and see.." Marika observed her companion for a moment before adding softly. "You're very pretty."

Natalya was so surprised at that, she was almost able to forget that she wasn't wearing a shirt. That was hardly the first time she'd had a girl call her pretty, but usually it was accompanied by a soft let down when they explained that they weren't into her in that way. It was a recurring theme of her love-life. But Marika sounded like she actually meant it. And what she'd said seemed to leave very little room for doubt.

"Well then..." Natalya hesitated, her blush deepening "now that we both know that everyone on the ship knows I'm in love with you..." She had no idea what to say next. Part of her wanted to leap on Marika and land a passionate kiss, but that wasn't really her style. She slowly inched forward to try and snuggle up next to her instead.

Marika observed the woman inching closer with a smile. "So, you mean I'm the last one to know then? Shouldn't that have been the other way around?

Natalya paused mid-creep and shrugged. "It's not my fault that the people on this ship have nothing better to do than read through my personal logs." She then scooted over and wrapped her arms around Marika, taking in the warmth and softness of her skin. Natalya in and rested her head on her shoulder, catching the same scent of her hair that she remembered from Marika's pillow.

"Did you know, when we first met on the promenade?" Natalya said somewhat dreamily.

"That you really need help in the fashion department?" Wrapping her arm around Natalya, Marika grinned. Why would everyone read her logs? Was that a thing? Wouldn't that be against regulation? Those pants they'd bought were awesome. She had really soft skin for an engineer. "Or are we talking about potatoes now?"

"Yes, Marika. We're talking about purple potatoes again. And thank you for complimenting my style, Miss I-don't-even-wear-clothes." She couldn't help but give a pouty and somewhat over-dramatic sigh. "Are you really going to make me ask?"

Marika unwillingly looked down at herself. "I am wearing clothes." What was she talking about? Promenade. Right. They had shopped some clothes and talked some. Made plans for a dinner date farther down the line. Frowning she forced her mind to slow down and attempt to see the world in someone else's view. Which of course failed. "So no potatoes..."

At that moment Natalya had to seriously consider whether the woman she was in love with actually was insane. Marika had brought up potatoes several times now and she still couldn't make sense of it. Natalya lifted her head and looked at her friend, trying to figure out what this was about. Her mouth worked, as if she was trying to figure out what to say, but she seemed at a loss for words.

Looking back at Natalya, Marika frowned some more. This seemed to be one of those times where her jumps weren't followed, and perhaps there was something going on she just didn't grasp. What to say then? Ask? Ask what exactly? "Wh.. what are we talking about exactly?" She smiled, figuring she probably sounded very silly right now. Which in a sense wasn't all that different from most of the time.

"I..." Natalya hesitated, wondering how direct she should be. Given the unexpected detours their conversation seemed poised to take, she decided it was probably best if she said exactly what she'd come there to say. "Marika... sweetie. I want us to be girlfriends... you know, lovers. Will you be my sweet potato?" Natalya regretted the pun as soon as it came out of her mouth, given the Bajoran's recent fixation on the subject.

Sweet potato? They weren't sweet potatoes, they were the russet variety, only purple... oh! Nothing to do with potatoes. Rewatching the scene in her head Marika grinned at her friends request. Request? Declaration? No matter. It was sweet. And really really punny. Which was a plus. Girlfriend... lover. She nodded. "I'd like that." She smiled.

Natalya let out a very contented sigh, laying her head back on Marika's shoulder as she snuggled up close. She planted a succession of soft kisses on her cheek, each nearing closer to her lips. She eyed the nearby couch and bunk bed, wondering why then were still camped out on the floor when there were more... intimate options available to them. She glanced at the bottom bunk again, wondering how they might go about occupying such a small space.

"Come, let's play a game." Natalya said playfully, standing abruptly and almost tripping over her loose jumpsuit, which had slipped down to her knees. She kicked off her boots and quickly rid herself of the garment. "The game is called... Cocoon." She said, liking the sound of that as she lifted the covers on Marika's bunk and slid in under them. She lifted the edge of the covers, encouraging her new girlfriend to join her. "I'll show you the rules."

She took only a second. But for a second she stared at her ... girlfriend, and peaked at the possibilities of what this could entail. With a grin worth her nickname, she promptly crawled in and giggled. A game! She loved games.
