Mission: Episode 11 - Divinum Mundi
Location: USS Galileo - Intel Area, Deck 5
Timeline: MD1, 0600

ON

Deck 5, Intelligence

Greener had a busy first couple of days, getting onboarded quickly, finding his temporary quarters, familiarizing himself with some of the key departments on the ship. But the ship had departed and he was ready to get started.

But without anything official at this very moment, what did that look like? A stop by the intelligence offices, to where he was officially assigned. He had on his very dark green with lighter green highlighted robes, the ceremonial uniform he wore while on duty. He had a Starfleet combadge and security clearance, so it felt just like old times.

Deck 5 was alive as with the rest of the ship. He made note of the holodecks, where he would likely create office and lounge areas should they need to greet guests in a grandiose way. But for now, he wanted to meet the Intel folks, and thus his arrival in the office.

Knowing to expect one of the diplomatic staff, Tyrion was already waiting when the Human male sauntered in. "Good morning ambassador," he greeted brightly, "have you been able to get settled in yet?"

Caymen nodded with a half-smile. "Temporary quarters for now." He was going to explain how on this small of a ship, for a diplomatic envoy of the civilian nature, his quarters were quite a bit down the list of priorities. But one of the others in the office chimed in.

Lia looked up from her console and smiled at the Ambassador. "Hello Ambassador, I hope you were adequately accommodated for this mission."

Greener's lip curled a bit more on one side. "I have dabbled in sensor relay and subspace communications technologies, and I was formally trained at Helm and Operations when I was young. But it is hard to say if those would translate well or even be needed for this mission."

The verbose nature of the returning diplomat was shining through, and Caymen had to catch himself. "But yes, I feel like I am ready to help in any way I can."

“Where's your tour guide,” the youngest of the department, none other than the James Langley himself, piped up with a sarcastic yet welcoming smirk. “Or did you just happen to stumble upon our humble abode here in the intelligence offices?”

Greener chortled a bit, although his smile would wane a bit at what he would say. "I am assigned to this office suite, it would seem." He was never a fan of intelligence folks, mostly because the ones he had to work with were the dirty kind - like Section 31 or Tal'Shiar. Word had it these folks were not that, so one could only hope.

"I don't need a lot of room, really," the ambassador continued, to maybe put them at ease. "I tend to roam when I am assigned to a ship, working with the linguists and scientists and the empaths and folks like you here in intel. Hopefully my quarters will suffice for many of my needs, along with meeting rooms and holodecks for visitors." Greener realized he was streaming again and stopped.

"So," said Caymen, turning the conversation, and returning to his normal methods of speech. "What do you all do down here?"

"Our job." Lia deadpanned.

Tyrion laughed at the dry remark. "Quite right," he answered, then beckoned the ambassador. "You may claim any of the vacant desks or offices," he invited pleasantly, "and if you need anything, information wise just let us know and we'll be happy to assist."

“He's in the intelligence office,” James exclaimed. “If he can't find information himself then he doesn't deserve a desk!”

Lia glanced at James, "Now, now, Ensign. Diplomats are typically the only other officer with the necessary clearance to read the intelligence reports of any given sector they're assigned to." She explained and shifted her golden eyes to the Ambassador, "I used to be a part of the Diplomatic Corps."

Greener just stared. "If I were Starfleet, I'd smack you all around a bit. But seeing as I am just a mere Federation representative..." He let the conclusion linger unsaid. He went over to the desk right next to James and sat down. He logged in and pulled up some details on Celes III, and began reading in fluid Romulan some of the intel on the Romulan side of things - the history of that system was deeply steeped in Romulan lore and politics and the Galae.

The old man peered over to James next to him. "Oh you don't mind, do you?" He gave a slight grin, hoping to engender his joining in on the banter.

“Not at all. Why, a diamond shines brightest when set amongst the stones,” James grinned back. Banter, indeed.

Tyrion laughed as he observed the banter. "But aren't we all diamonds?" he suggested playfully, making a show of looking around. "Where are the stones?"

"You're looking at a fossil right now," joked Greener without skipping a beat. He would eventually stop reading Rihan versions of the Celes system historical records and switch to other data about nearby systems. He would call up some peripheral reports from his clearance level. If he had to, he could always call in a favor from friends still in the Fleet. But for now, this would do - he dumped the contents onto a secured datapadd for later reading.

"So I know I could be best friends with your grandfathers," he said dryly, "but let me know if anything fun happens in this department. Something a bit more contemporary than tea and crumpets."

Lia watched the exchanged and studied Ambassador Caymen a bit. "You're only 49 so you'd most likely would have been friends with their fathers. As for tea and crumpets are contemporary to about a half dozen federation member planets."

"Contemporary or not, I'll sign up for tea and crumpets as long as there's chocolate to go with it," Tyrion piped up, casting his assistant a sharp look. "And while forty-nine might be considered middle age on some planets...it may be considered extremely old, or in fact quite young on others. Age is only in the eye of the beholder and one's as old or young as one feels. Right ambassador?"

Lia interjected, "I'm aware but he's human. Average life expectancy of a human male is 150."

Greener shrugged. They didn't have to educate him on species age, even if he could only dream of living to be that old - upwards of 110 or so was where he saw most friends pass on. Wasn't in any heritage he knew closely. The fact is he was and felt old, and had 30 years of experience to prove it. "90 would be nice enough for these old bones."

"Then you still have a while to go sir," Tyrion smiled, "and you'll have many a tale to tell by then. I'm sure you've a few now, perhaps you'd like to share one with us?" His smile widened. "Perhaps, for learning purposes?"

Caymen turned his chair around and looked at the group, ending on Tyrion. "There are many indeed, although most of my doings are public record - to Starfleet." He hmm'd to himself and grinned. "How much do you know about Species 8472?"

"Only what Admiral Janeway has logged about them," the intelligence chief answered quickly, sitting back with a thoughtful look on his face. He looked around the small gathered group, then shifted to lean forward. "But it sounds as if you may know more than we do. Perhaps you could...educate us?"

Greener chortled. "Let me just say that, at the cost of a heavy cruiser, you can defeat their motherships." He briefly described the events of his younger years where after a long battle with the aliens his crew flew the ship right up into the belly of the mothership and self-destructed. It was a glorious end to the battle, although - even with safety precautions in place - many people lost their lives that day. And killing off an entire ship-worth of enemy is not always fun.

But perhaps that would give his cohorts a taste of the old man's days in the chair...
