Mission: Episode 08 - NIMBUS
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 5, Holodeck 1
Timeline: MD1 - 1630 hours

ON:

With the big diplomatic reception coming up, Tuula wanted to be noticed. While normally she had no trouble with catching curious glances, she wanted to get noticed in a certain particular way and by a certain special someone. So, she found herself outside holodeck one, anxiously awaiting Sigrid, the host of a salon night she found on the activity rota.

Inside the holodeck, Sigrid was just finishing up with her current client.

"And how often do I put it on my fur?" The young Petty Officer looked at Sigrid with a little skepticism.

"Once every other day or so till it runs out. Don't go more than three without putting it in or you'll have to use a little dry shampoo and start the process over." Sigrid bounced about putting various supplies away. The environment they were in was holographic but a lot of the products and tools were her own.

"Thank you, Ms. Thelin." The Caitian purred and left with his new fur product. The smell of freshly washed and cut fur with a hint of Hulion Beta fragrance #6 hung in the air as he left.

"Anytime." She beamed a brilliant toothy smile at him and watched him leave. She swept the remaining fur off the floor and when she'd finished she flopped into the holographic chair. She was just about to load up her weekly article reads on her PADD when the doors to the holographic Salon opened. In the corner, her Poompom named Tom 'blurped' at the person that came in. Poompom's didn't bark, they blurped.

"Hello!" Sigrid scooted off her chair excitedly at her new guest.

"Bluuuurp, blurp, blurp." Tom said in his quiet blurppy way of his.

"Tom, shh. We have a guest!" Sigrid threw the PADD down on an empty chair and faced the new arrival.

"Hello!" called out Tuula in her distinctive Finnish accent as she rolled into the holodeck. Normally, she was not one for spending a lot of time in a beauty salon, making sure everything was all prim and proper. She preferred to do her hair and makeup herself in order to get her unique style just right, no matter how badly her repeated use of the colour wand was abusing her hair.

"I'm Tuula," she added as she approached the blonde woman who she presumed to be Sigrid. "I sent you a message earlier about wanting to look good for the reception."

"'Tuula! Hello, I'm Sigrid." She extended her hand in greeting. "Looks like this reception is getting me a lot of traffic today!" Sigrid went over to the holograpic chair and dragged it out of the way to give Tuula a spot in front of the mirror. She then sat in the chair herself, crossed her legs and pushed the lever. "Wee." She said bubbly and sweetly as it lowered putting Sigrid eye level with Tuula. "Now, let's talk about what you had in mind." To Tuula's ear, Sigrid's accent could easily be mistaken for Swedish. To Sigrid, Tuula positively oozed Vega Colony. So much so, her eyes lit up. "Wait, are you a Vega Colonist by any chance? Vega IX?"

"No, I'm an Earther," she explained as she took in the environment around her. The chairs, the shelf full of products, and the woman who by her mannerisms, might have been her twin sister. "Finland, to be specific. My family--"

Tuula froze mid-sentence as she locked eyes with Tom. "Omigod, he's so cute! What's his name!" she exclaimed, instantly falling in love with the little poompom.

The little ball of white fur sat in his small bed, in the corner. He started to vibrate slightly with excitement when Tuula made eye contact. It's face was almost completely covered with long, fluffy and carefully groomed fur. Two tiny black eyes could be seen, but unlike a dog it didn't seem to have much of a snout. It did however have a large tongue that was now sticking out from behind the fur.

Sigrid bounced out of her chair again; sitting still was hard for her at the best of times. "This is Tom." Sigrid said, scooping him up with one hand and bringing him over to Tuula. "He likes to eat, and sit on things." She offered him to Tuula, "You can hold him if you want. He vibrates when he's happy. It's really quite cute."

Tuula gently placed Tom into her lap and began petting his thick fur, as she stared down into his cute puppy dog eyes. Tom recoiled initially, but quickly nuzzled down into Tuula's lap and sat there, vibrating slightly as it enjoyed being petted. "Awwwww, good boy, Tom, you're so cute," she added, enthralled by the little thing. "I love animals," she said, looking up at Sigrid. "Of course, being a medical officer on a starship means that having a lot of pets is kind of impractical. I do have one though, a tribble named Gilbert who I rescued on our last mission. He was very badly burned and I had to nurse him back to health. And, he even helped me make a scientific breakthrough in the field of Tribble birth control!"

Sigrid had made an 'aww' sound when Tuula mentioned the burned Tribble but then in the same volume said, 'yaaay', when Tuula said she nursed it back to health. She put both hands up as if shaking invisible cheerleader pom-poms, "And yay for scientific breakthroughs!" She looked at her little Tom vibrating happily, and it made her smile. "I love animals too. He was a gift from my mother for graduating Enlisted Academy. I named him after my favourite Captain." She enthused.

"Your favourite captain?" asked Tuula, raising an eyebrow. "Not... captain Holliday?"

Sigrid clasped her hands together and squeaked. "Yes! Isn't he dreamy? I mean not my usual type. I like 'em a little more...exotic in the species department, but he first hired me as a bar manager last year and it inspired me to enlist." She looked down at Tom, sitting in Tuula's lap and smiled when he made a blurp sound. "I think it's fitting anyway."

"He is cute, that's for sure," said Tuula. "The poompom, I mean," she quickly added as she petted the blurping creature. "Captain Holliday has more of a rugged cowboy thing going for him. Though, I suppose for people who are into that sort of thing..."

"Okay, now down to business," replied Sigrid. She walked away from Tuula pacing a bit in thought, "You said you wanted a makeover for this reception?" With a whirl of blond curls, Sigrid spun back around to face her Scandinavian cousin. "Okay, Tuula in her new make over arrives at the reception-- no, let's call it a gala. Women as beautiful as you go to galas." Sigrid lifted her hands in the air and held them like she was looking through the lens of a camera. "So, Tuula arrives at the gala in her new makeover, what's the first thing someone is going to notice? Do you want it to be your stunning new hairdo? Perhaps the smokiest, most brilliantly sexy eyes in the whole place? Maybe you even have arm candy with you to accessorize your look?"

"Everything!" she exclaimed in excitement, before realizing that it wasn't exactly a helpful answer. "Well," she continued, pondering the question a little more. "They say the eyes are the gateway to the soul, and..." she let out a longing sigh, thinking about the real reason why she came in for a makeover. She would have to be honest with Sigrid, as she knew firsthand how difficult it could be when patients weren't exactly honest and forthcoming about their medical issues. "To be perfectly honest, it's not so much a question of getting noticed, more... getting noticed by a certain specific person."

Sigrid bit her lip and squealed in delight and looked at her with an open-mouthed mock surprise. "Those makeovers are my very favourite! I intend to get me a handsome Klingon man to hang off using the same tactic." Though just as quickly the smile was replaced by a thoughtful frown. "But I don't have time for a covert reconnaissance mission..." She sat again in the holographic chair. She hated standing over Tuula. She imagined there must eventually be a little strain on her posture from having to look up at Sigrid so often. Smiling again she added, "So you're just going to have to tell me about this 'certain specific person.'"

"He's just so dreamy," explained Tuula in an enthusiastic tone, building on the bubbliness of her companion. "He's a guy I work with, another doctor. And, well, I did pretend to be married to him for a few weeks, but that was only to fool his family. Anyways, he's just so perfect. Kind-hearted, successful, caring, sympathetic, with an amazing sense of humour, and just soooooooo sexy..."

Tuula found herself getting excited even describing the man of her dreams. "It's everything. The way he talks, the way he jokes around sometimes, and the way his hand might brush up against mine while in the middle of surgery. He even had a horrible ex of mine brutally beaten and then exiled to a desolate corner of Federation space. It was just so... romantic."

After a bit of babbling about her crush like a schoolgirl, Tuula refocused herself on Sigrid and the task at hand. "His name is Olsam," she said, trying without much success to contain her excitement. "Dr. Olsam Mott."

"Dr. Olsam?" Sigrid fanned herself with her hand as if she were flushed, "Good for you! He'd make quite the catch." Sigrid couldn't help herself feed into Tuula's excitement. She spun her chair and tilted her head in thought as the chair slowly rotated. By the time it brought her back around Sigrid beamed a large smile. "Hair, makeup, manicure." She said listing them off her fingers. "I absolutely love your style, it's very Vegan colony-ish." She hopped off her chair and came around Tuula inspecting her hair. "You use a colouring wand." She stated more as an observation than a question or accusation. She took up a small handful of her hair and ran it under fingers, inspecting any damage.

Sigrid 'hmm'ed and 'mmhmm'ed to her self as she ran her fingers through Tuula's hair. "I'm professionally trained in hair and fur colouring, if you'd like I can style and colour your hair for you anyway you'd like. I have products that are more natural and longer lasting. The colouring wand is soo handy sometimes though, so I totally get why you'd use one. You can have mine to use if you're in a hurry and can't see me. It's a Betazoid design, and actually repairs hair damage at the same time. I have the design specs saved so I can replicate another one. How do you feel about luminescence colouring? I can make some pretty vibrant greens or blues that'll turn sections of hair bio-luminescent."

"Bio-luminescent?" Tuula pondered the idea for a moment, as a concept started to form in her head. "That sounds awesome!" she exclaimed, gesticulating wildly with her arms. Sigrid's enthusiasm was clearly infectious, and the fact that she actually liked Tuula's unique style and was willing to work with it made Tuula overjoyed. "Maybe we can do black with some glowing teal in there? Oh! And matching luminescent eyeshadow! I'm so excited... this is going to be great! I'm going to look just awesome, and be the center of attention there! Olsam won't be able to keep his eyes off of me!"

Sigrid smiled brilliantly. On the inside she smiled even bigger. This, after all, was the kind of thing she lived for. Meeting and contributing to, happy confident people. No matter who they were, or how they expressed themselves it was beautiful to Sigrid any which way you looked at it. "Excellent!" she squealed. She bounced over to her counter as she started gathering supplies together. "Operation 'Bag Dr. Blue' is on."
