Mission: Episode 07 - Sojourn
Location: USS Galileo, deck 6, Faye/Van Zyl quarters
Timeline: MD40 - 0900

Now that Pieter had left in a huff, Tyrion tried to get up but he was lying in an awkward position with his legs bent over what was left of the glass table's frame. The shards of glass were stabbing him, cutting through the fabric of his uniform. Even though it was safety glass, some were still quite sharp and he heard the shards grind and move any time he tried to sit up.

Groaning, he reached for his combadge. "Faye to sickbay....please send someone, I require assistance. Please!"

"I'll be down immediately!" exclaimed the Finnish-accented voice on the other end. "What's the nature of the medical emergency?"

"I fell, and I can't get up," Tyrion cried out, still trying to find the leverage to lift himself up. But everything hurt, and he was afraid the glass might injure him further.

"All right," replied Tuula. She paused for a moment, realizing that if he can't get up, the patient may need more assistance than she could provide. "Dr. Mercy," she called out, "can you assist me with a house call?"

"Of course I can doctor," Naois answered, emerging from behind a privacy screen, "where are we going and what is the nature of the call?"

"Petty Officer Faye's quarters," replied Tuula. She paused for a moment, biting her lip. She didn't want to explain to the doctor why she needed his help. "The patient said he couldn't get up," she added, hoping that he would understand.

"I that case we better go see why," the Vulcan answered diplomatically, "has he reported what happened when he called in?"

"He just said he fell and can't get up." Tuula was already out the door while Naois was still gathering his things. "Come on, lets go," she added, somewhat impatiently. Somehow, out of all her patients so far, she felt a connection to Tyrion. Maybe it was because she felt bad for him over the loss of his boyfriend and the loss of his commission. Or maybe she saw something of her sister in his gentle demeanour and innocent nature. Or maybe it was because he was kind enough to deliver her flowers, something that patients rarely do. Or perhaps it was some sort of latent maternal instinct, similar to the one which drove her to try to protect Jaana during high school, that made her want to protect him.

She pondered that question on the way down, just what she saw in Tyrion which compelled her to try to take care of him. "Tyrion?" she called out as she approached the door. Not waiting for a response, she entered. "Tyr-- are you all right?!" she exclaimed at the sight of him caught up in the frame of the glass table, bleeding from the legs.

"Not really," the Betazoid answered, pain lacing his voice. Pain, but shock mostly. Relief flooded his features when the doctors entered his quarters, though he wasn't very keen on having a telepath present.

"I will assist him up, as soon as you give me the all clear doctor," Naois said calmly, kneeling down at Tyrion's side, ready to lift him up.

"One minute," replied Tuula as she waved her tricorder over Tyrion's legs, making sure that there were no shards of glass close enough to his femoral artery which could be driven in and require Tyrion to have to be rushed to sickbay and more than likely have to buy a new carpet.

As she brought the tricorder up his leg towards his pelvis, she noticed some curious readings. Quickly, she folded up her tricorder. "Dr. Mercy, help him onto the couch, please."

Naois nodded and swiftly lifted Tyrion up in his arms, then carried him effortlessly over to the couch where he eased him down, mindful of the shards of glass and careful not to drive them deeper into his body. When he was eased down and comfortable, he sat down at his feet and started to pick the tiny shards away one at the time, until told otherwise.

Tyrion on his part breathed a sigh of relief, despite his embarrassment at having to be carried. The doctor was cute, but he knew the man was already spoken for, and thought it bad form to make any compliments. "Thank you," he said as he was made somewhat comfortable.

Tuula looked at the doctor and then back to Tyrion. She had to talk to him about what she found, and felt he would be more open to discussing the matter with just her. "Doctor Mercy," she said, pulling his attention away from the shards of glass he was picking out of Tyrion's legs. "You've been most helpful, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask for some privacy. I can take it from here."

Giving her a nod of understanding, knowing she was his primary physician, he got up and walked away. "I will be in sickbay."

Tyrion cast Tuula a look of concern. "What is wrong?"

Tuula looked back at him as she pulled her tricorder out. "Tyrion, I have a hard time believing that you just slipped and fell through your own table," she said, her concern for him evident in her voice. "What happened? Who did this to you?"

"I did trip," Tyrion insisted, "but I had a little altercation with my roommate. It's my own fault though.." He hesitated, the embarrassment plain on his face. "I kissed him, he shoved me away, I tripped and fell. It's not his fault!"

"I see," replied Tuula as she began scanning him again, this time focusing her scans on his pelvic area. "Tyrion, aside from the bleeding and shards of glass, is everything okay with you? I haven't seen you since that night at Cosmos, and I've been... I don't know, worried about you."

"I'm fine," Tyrion answered, "never been better actually. I uh...met
someone, after Cosmos..sort of..."

"Oh?" asked Tuula with a raised eyebrow. "Well, I guess that explains the nerve damage in your pelvic region. Was it one of the Bolians?"

"No ma'am.. nothing happened with the Bolians. I told them no, so nothing happened." Tyrion shook his head, his cheeks burning. "I uh...I got intimate with someone else. He was quite a gentleman though...especially because uhm..I'd never done it before." But it did hurt now, and he was glad she had found out and that he was spared the embarrassment of going to sickbay to get this treated.

"You're lucky I brought the proper regenerator," replied Tuula as she returned to removing the last few shards of glass from Tyrion's leg. "You should have come to me sooner if you had any pain. That sort of nerve damage is an easy fix, and you know you can trust me with anything. I'm a doctor." Having finished with her little lecture, she decided to change her tone. "Anyways, you said he was quite the gentleman? Do you think there is the possibility of a long-term relationship there?" she asked, changing into her friend hat.

"No, I don't think there is... I mean he didn't hurt me too much when we...you know..." Tyrion looked away for a moment. "I met him earlier, when I was on my way home, I didn't know he was assigned here and from that meeting, I Got the impression there won't be more. After that day, back on starbase, I lost sight of him you see...we spent a night or two together on the base and we had some fun but no ... no relationship." Tyrion actually looked a little sad about that. "He's nice...maybe you know him.." He shrugged. "Pieter flipped when I told him I slept with Oren."

"Well, it's not any of Pieter's business who you sleep with, is it?" asked Tuula, in a sympathetic and somewhat indignant tone as she pulled out a regenerator.

"Not really no but I got the impression that he and Oren have a history, and when I met Oren earlier he was very distant for some reason."

Tuula sighed. "Well, you can't let Pieter tell you who you can and can't sleep with." She glanced over at the table. "And you can't let him push you through furniture either. Why, next time I see him..."

"Aww..it was an accident doctor, an awkward, rather stupid accident. He's the first friend I had here you see...and I like him. Please, don't hurt him?" He gave her the best imitation of puppy eyes he could muster.

"Okay," replied Tuula, relenting to his begging as she begun closing up his wounds with a regenerator. "But if he ever hurts you...

It's truly delightful to see/read new sides to Tuula's character. There's some hidden depths being mined here -- inspired by how very endearing Tyrion is.
