Mission: Episode 07 - Sojourn
Location: USS Galileo - Intelligence Office, Deck 5
Timeline: MD -25, 16:30

ON:

Lt. Markos frowned as she touched the PADD, almost with surprise at the names she was seeing. After the mission, with a moment's calm...well, she had decided to see who remained. And she knew she had to use this transit time well. Which meant meetings. She groaned and tapped her combadge. "Petty Officer Ueda...can you come to my office as soon as you can. We need to talk," she said before hesitating. Now that sounded like the start of a bollocking. "You are not in trouble."

Lyras's quirked a brow, tapping his badge. "I shall be there shortly, ma'am." Moments later, he was stepping through the door leading into the Intelligence Office, large tome in his hand. "For the record, Ma'am, I hadn't thought myself in trouble... unless you're referring to the books I have in my possession detailing an extremely old method of creating Romulan ale... apparently it was stronger many, many years ago." He set the book to his side, standing at attention. "Apologies. What was it you wished to discuss, ma'am?"

"No apologies needed..." she said and smiled weakly, motioning to the empty chair. "Nothing special, I am just...aware I am supposedly in charge of you. But I'm not exactly...aware of what you do. So I wanted to see if I can offer any...assistance."

'Assistance?' Lyras mulled the thought over in his head, matching her smile with one of his own and settling himself in the chair. Placing the book in his lap, the hybrid quirked his head to one side. "If the documents are to be believed, I suppose you are my direct superior officer, Ma'am." He chuckled, in an attempt to make light of any awkwardness in the situation. "Although I am not certain as to what assistance we would need at this time. After the incident with the Cardassians, I have not spoken with Lieutenant Alasia on the aftermath, though I do feel partially responsible for allowing taspar eggs to be served at that... diplomatic attempt at a formal dinner."

She looked at him for a moment before letting out a breath. "Gods above and below, I forgot that ever happened...it feels like it happened ten years ago," she met his eyes, tilting her head slightly to the side. "What about you. Personally. What would you like for...your future?"

Lyras's expression softened, suddenly apologetic for bringing it up. Choosing not to dwell on it, he shook his head. "Ma'am, I have always considered Starfleet as part of my overall future. With the number of ship assignments that I've had and the number of positions that I have held, I cannot see myself being of any more use in any other manner."

Markos nodded at the words, taking them in. She could understand that. She really could. "So you are happy?" she asked bluntly. "Or content?"

The hybrid frowned thoughtfully. "Happy?" he asked, as if the term were foreign to him. "... I have not been asked that in quite a long time. I suppose, for the most part, I am content. I have not found many bumps in the way of my work, and there seems to be quite a bit of it to go around. I may admit, however, that I do seem to be mistaken for someone who knows how to operate a phaser with moderate efficiency. As it stands, I could barely hit boulders larger than a shuttle."

"Well...I always thought that when phasers are pulled, someone messed up," Markos said bluntly before meting his eyes. "Don't worry, next time there's a zombie apocalypse, we won't put a phaser in your hand. Maybe...a dagger is better. Closer."

Lyras almost shuddered at the mention of the word 'zombies.' "May we never find ourselves in the middle of a situation quite like that ever again. Though, if we do, I'm told that blunt force is more effective than... ah... stabby stabby, pointy pointy." He made a jabbing motion in the air. "If I felt the need to have a dagger at my side, it would be because I felt a hostile negotiation was about to occur... but that brings us back to phasers and someone saying the wrong thing at the wrong time."

"Blunt force is sometimes easier. Such as a vase to the head," Amynta commented lightly, holding his eyes before she gave a small nod. "You can get more training if you want it. If not, I doubt either of us would lose any sleep. Security are around for a reason and it is to make sure they're the ones fighting, not us."

"Ah, the classic 'unconventional smash.' What a way to get a first impression of someone." Folding his arms against his chest, Lyras shook his head. "I would prefer to leave Security to do most of the phaser fighting. A self-defense training may prove useful, especially with the hostile situations we manage to find ourselves in."

"I can arrange that," she said lightly, giving a small nod. "It is good traning in general. However it will only be the basic things; it takes years to develop to the stage where you can fight yourself free in the way you see on the holovids and even then the other people are inclined to shoot anyone who tries anything too heroic."

"Of course." Lyras had absolutely no intention playing a hero through his fists. He hoped that the crew of the Galileo would have been more tactful about instances that he ended up involved in. However, with the recent mission, he almost thought otherwise. "I would be grateful for any sort of training, basic or not. I do not suspect an attacker would think a diplomat capable of much of anything aside from talking their way out of a paper bag... and potentially right back into it."

"I'll see if Security can arrange something. And if not, I will instruct," Amynta said and nodded, holding his eyes. At least that was something that she could do for the diplomats.

"It would be greatly appreciated-" He paused as an alert sprang up on the PADD at his side. "... Ah, that might be the meeting I have with the Denobulan emissary. I don't mean to cut this meeting short ma'am, but I should take this..."

"Please...go," Amynta said, with a nod. She liked someone who didn't mind saying they had other things to do. "And I will be seeing you around."
