Mission: Episode 06 - Legend of Souls
Location: USS Galileo - Sickbay, Deck 3
Timeline: MD10 - 1930

[ON]

Elijah Williams was glad to be back on board the Galileo despite the Tribble infestation. Though, the Tribble issue seemed just as bad. Maybe even worse. All he knew was that between the mines and the Tribbles, he thought his sanity was going to slip. So much had happened over the past few days, it was all overwhelming and he had one incident where he slipped and lost it but he quickly contained that. Andreus Kohl - who was at ground zero of that incident - understood and helped. He certainly was grateful to the other man.

Now as he walked down the corridor of deck three, he held a bouquet of brightly colored flowers of various species. They were for Abbey Wyatt, who was currently in sickbay due to injuries sustained from a falling lift. He had been upset when he found out, he considered the young woman a friend, only one of a couple that he had onboard. After stepping on several Tribbles on the way and almost tripping, he managed to get to sickbay and entered.

To his relief, sickbay was not knee-deep in the furry buggers. He had a feeling it was a priority to keep the medical bay as clear as possible. Though, honestly, it was a losing battle at this point. He saw Abbey laying on the farthest biobed from the entrance and he approached. He wasn't sure how she would be, but he still wanted to see how she was even if it was just for a few minutes. "Hi Abbey," he said in a soft tone.

Abbey had spent most of the night contemplating on her escape from sickbay and of the ship she didn't want to stick around for much longer so when someone said her name she didn't really notice it. She was looking away from the door so didn't see who it was so she thought maybe they would leave her be after all who would want to see her.

Is she ignoring me? Elijah asked himself. His brow furrowed slightly in confusion at that. Probably, under any other circumstance he would turn on his heel and exit, but he really wanted to see how his friend was doing. "Abbey," he said a bit louder, "It's me, Elijah."

Abbey was surprised to hear the sound of his voice Turning slowly, her back braise making it easier than what it used to be but she was stilll in pain and grimaced as she finally sat up and looked to Elijah "Sorry, I thought you was another doctor" She said in a whimpering tone.

Elijah offered a small, sympathetic smile. He didn't really have an issue with doctors perse, but he wouldn't like the hovering and he was sure they were hovering. He could see the pained look on her face. "Nope, just ordinary, run of the mill me," he said. "These are for you." He presented the bouquet of flowers.

Abbey cheeks shone with a crimson radiance as Elijah presented her the flowers "They're beautiful Elijah you didn't have to" She said and the first time a smile spread across he tired face.

Elijah's smile broadened when Abbey had smiled. "I wanted to," he said. "I figured they would brighten your stay here," his eyes swept the area. Sickbay was just like the rest of the Galileo... bland. The only color splashes were the dang Tribbles. Before he left, he would be sure to put the flowers in water for his friend. "So how are you feeling?" He then lowered his voice. "Have you devised a plan for escape yet?" he said conspiratorially.

Abbey rolled her eyes "I made it to the door until they knocked me back out, it wasn't very graceful but now I've come to terms with having a back brace on for a while until I am better" She looked into Elijah's eyes "When I first found out what had happened I wanted to die Elijah, does that make me a bad person?"

Elijah shook his head slowly. "No, it doesn't make you a bad person," he said softly. "I will spare you all the psychological mumbo jumbo they push on us, but you had a life altering experience, I think 'wanting to die' is a natural way to process and deal with it. What is our existence if we are not whole?" He thought back to his childhood just then, all the beatings, the hope that he wouldn't wake up one morning so he wouldn't have to deal with such harsh realities. "Your response is perfectly natural, I certainly wouldn't judge you for it and in fact I doubt anyone would."

Abbey couldn't help but love Elijah if he wasn't her best and possibly only friend right now she could even say it was more than the kind of Love you share with someone like a Brother or Sister. "Can you lay with me?" She asked the bed wasn't exactly made for two but she needed to hold someone and someone like Elijah would make her feel normal again.

"Of course," Elijah said. He took a hold of the flower bouquet and placed it on a side cart that was next to the biobed. He looked onto the bed, it wasn't really big enough for two but he wasn't a big guy by any means. He would fit. He hopped up and stretched out against his friend. He wrapped his arms around Abbey, to hold her. It was something he had never experienced himself, but it felt instinctual to do so.

Abbey felt his warmth next to her and she smiled as she reached up and held his hugging arm with her arm. "I wish I had more friends like you Elijah" She said with a yawn, she found herself getting spurs of tiredness Tuula had said it was something to do with the drugs she was having pumped into her and her body trying to fight of infection, repairing itself and among other things.

This had caused Elijah to smile. With Abbey, he could be himself, there was no hiding behind walls. She didn't judge him, there were no strings attached with her. She wanted friendship and he gave it to her fully. "I feel the same way Abbey," he said softly. He allowed a few moments of silence to slip by then spoke again. "Just promise me you will get better Abbey..." he let the sentence trail, honestly he was afraid he might cry.

Abbey sunk into his chest and she could feel the soft rhythm of his heartbeat against her back. She swallowed hard as she went to reply to his question which he had cut short. "I promise Elijah, I promise to get better" She said squeezing his arm.

That had been reassuring, even though he wasn't sure really what Abbey's prognosis was. He had just assumed she would recover, but then what after the recovery was unknown. He again stayed silent, words had escaped him at the moment. What more was there to say, he just wanted Abbey to be okay. He had only known her a short time and yet he knew he would have a hard time living without her. "You know... since you promised me that you will get better, I promise then to go dancing with you any time you want."

Abbey opened her eye's she had closed them resting on the pillow as she clung to his hugging arm. "Really? And wear a pink fluffy tutu?" She giggled at the thought of him in such attire.

"Even in a pink fluffy tutu," Elijah said. "So, you know I mean business." At this point if Abbey asked him to run around naked, he would, just to make sure she stayed healthy and safe.

Abbey giggled further she could feel her stomach hurt but the laughter was far more worth having. "I will hold you to that Elijah Williams" She teased kissing the top of his hand before closing her eyes again. The softness of his breath landing silently on her neck.

"I'm going to count on it," he whispered. He tilted his head slightly and in an uncharacteristic move, laid a soft kiss on Abbey's temple. He continued in a whisper, "Just rest, I will stay here for as long as you need me to."

Abbey smiled, not a normal smile you'd give someone for telling a good story or a Joke but the kind you give when you know everything is going to turn out fine and the kind that you make when you know someone close to you will always be by your side. The kiss caught her a little of guard and her heart fluttered she knew it was a small gesture but she enjoyed it Elijah really did care that she got better and she really cared that Elijah would dance in a pink tutu. "Thank you" She whispered back her voice cracking as tiredness overcome her and shell fell asleep almost whimpering.

Elijah sat there for a few minutes, holding his friend. He didn't want to move, he himself felt relaxed but he also didn't want to leave Abbey. But, his back started to ache and so very gently he pulled from his friend and slid onto the deck. He stood there for another minute, just making sure Abbey was okay before turning on his heel and headed toward the door.

In an emergency, we may need to draft Elijah as a nurse. Maybe a home health care nurse, just send him around to all the sick people on the ship in his little pink fluffy tutu uniform. :D

I'm also willing to fake an injury to receive this level of care. I did have that acorn fall on me today, just sayin'.
