"What ship is this?" the little girl asked, rubbing her eyes as she yawned. She had just woken up, just gotten herself out of the nap she had against the woman's shoulder. She was tall for her years...ten human years and she had enough human in her to count. Her dark hair was braided, carefully so, and she wore a white dress and white soft shoes. But what was clear was her Cardassian genes, from the ridges to the colouring of her skin. But it had been softened down by the human in her.

"This is the Galileo," the woman who held her hand said, her voice soft. She stood out against her ward, pale skin and hair and dressed in white. Her eyes were pale yellow and seemed to shine as she looked around. She knelt, to take both the hands of the girl. "It's our new home, Nia," Lina Vipsania said and leant to kiss her forehead before standing. "Our new ship."

"It is small," Nia said as she looked around, walking with her mother as she smiled. Animated, she tugged at her mother's hand. "Will we be happy here? Do you think we will be happy?"

"Yes," Lina nodded, touching her daughter's shoulder. Of course, she did not have the answer. But she hoped and prayed to the god and goddess they would be. She had not had a good run. She had come to Starfleet a refugee, having stolen the little girl from her planet's jails...where she would be executed for being a Cardassian. And as a half human orphan and Lina...having a heart....had taken the girl and run. And not looked back. It had led her to the Federation, to Starfleet, to the Academy where she trained as a nurse.

And now, it was leading her here, to the Galileo. Her new home. Her daughter's new home. And Nia, her beautiful dark haired girl, deserved to feel safe. To be well treated. To have all the benefits available. Lina smiled as she reached to touch Nia's hair for a moment, considering. "Let us go to the mess and eat first. Then...we go to Operations. We need our quarters. After that...you will have to study while I...do the things I must before being cleared for duty," she said, with some regret. She would have rather helped her daughter settle in.

"I can do that. And unpack..." Nia said and smiled warmly. "If I have my own room, can I do with it as I please, mother?"

"As long as it is...suitable for a girl," Lina said, but with a gentle now of warmth for the girl's eagerness. "But yes. You may."

"Thank you..." Nia wrapped her arm around her, burying her face briefly against the dress, the familiar scent of her mother's perfume and the recycled air from the shuttle oddly soothing for her. "I love you."

"I love you too," Lina whispered, her eyes soft before she led her girl with her, to find the mess.
