"No! Damn it!"

Victoria slammed her PADD down in frustration. It had been giving her trouble the past few days and now, she just lost some important calculations she needed for her research. She placed a hand on her forehead and leaned back in her chair, heaving an enormous sigh.

What next? An anvil on my head? Maybe a piano?

Nat leapt through the door at the sound, but was relieved to see it was only Victoria struggling with something on her PADD. With the Borg on the ship, she had been on edge, assuming the worst at every moment.

Victoria was probably the officer on the science team she knew least well so far, but she'd enjoyed their little talk in the Observation Lounge, so she decided to join her at the table and see what the problem was.

"Hi, Victoria. Something giving you a headache?"

Victoria looked up sharply, her eyes flashing. She calmed, however, seeing that it was only Nat. Sucking in a deep breath, Victoria tried to smile at the girl.

"Hi. Sorry, this stupid thing," she said, gesturing to her PADD, "has been giving me trouble all day. I'm just kind of fed up I guess." She glared once more at the offending piece of technology and turned back to Nat. "Sorry if I disturbed you. It's been a...difficult day, to say the least."

Though she had no idea what Victoria was working on, Nat nodded understandingly: she'd certainly been there, hitting the wall with research problems. She walked around the side of the table to the replicator - technically meant for scientific use, but long since jerry-rigged for general purposes by the science crew - and ordered herself a coffee. Cupping both hands around the cup, she sat down opposite the psychologist.

"You didn't disturb me at all. I'm just a bit on edge because of..." She gestured vaguely at the air: she had no need to spell out what was happening. "But, maybe I can help? Or is it a private problem?"

Victoria smiled slightly. "Thanks. It's just this whole Borg mess has me worked up. It's been a hellish week, to say the least. It's finally starting to catch up with me." She heaved a sigh and got to grab a cup of tea from the replicator and returned to her seat.

Private problem evidently, Nat summised from Victoria's refusal to answer her question. She did not pry further.

"That it certainly has. Everyone missing or injured, and half the ship torn up." Nat shivered. "Hopefully we'll soon find out what this is all about and try to do something about it? I mean if something really bad was going to happen, I feel like it would have done so already, so there's that at least."

Victoria nodded, as if agreeing with her, but she couldn't help but think, in the back of her mind, that there were new things coming, far worse and much more destructive. Pessimist, she berated herself. "We'll just have to stay vigilant, I guess. I don't want to know what else could possibly happen," she replied.
